Born in suburban Glasgow in 1953, Midge Ure OBE rocketed to the top of the charts as one of the singers on 1984's Band Aid anthem Do They Know It's Christmas?.
He joined a line-up of stars including Bob Geldof, Bono, Sting and Phil Collins to record the song.
The 71-year-old told his followers on social media: "Dublin bound. The yellow and blue gives it away. Ahh the glamour."
Fans commented: "Midge-san's style is perfect, but his eyes are serious."
A second applauded: "Keeping it real Mid-ge."
A third joked: "The high life."
"No Concorde then," quizzed a fourth.
Another praised: "Master."
He found fame in a host of bands aside from Ultravox and their epic hit Vienna, including Rich Kids, Slik and Thin Lizzy.
The Scottish superstar and Geldof formed the group, which aimed to highlight the plight of the famine in Ethiopia.
Bob Geldof and Midge Ure return with a new version of their charity classic, Do They Know It's Christmas
The classic shot to the number one spot back in 1984 and became the fastest-selling single in UK chart history.
To date, the Band Aid Charitable Trust has raised more than £150million for people in need and officially turned 40 years old in 2024.
Midge went on to have a highly successful career after Band Aid but hasn't been without his struggles.
He's been open about his battles with alcoholism and confessed about nearly losing his family in his book.
The star wrote: "I got close to being kicked out of our home. It must have been boring for Sheridan to have me staggering around at 2am trying to get into bed.
"It caused a rift and she asked me to stop. I did but started again - I abused her trust and couldn't see that I was in danger of losing my family and my life."
The Scot was previously married to the late I'm A Celeb star Annabel Giles, who died at the age of 64, in 2023.
The model and TV presenter was married to Scottish rock legend Midge Ure for four years.
When Annabel was 25, she ran off from her husband-to-be the day before their wedding - to pursue a relationship with Ultravox singer Midge.
Annabel and Midge married on the Caribbean island of Montserrat in 1985.
Their daughter Molly was born two years later, and the family lived in a listed Georgian mansion by the Thames in west London.
But the marriage was not to last, with Annabel and Midge separating in 1989 - although they remained good friends.
Last year, the singer-songwriter and record producer showcased his Catalogue: The Hits tour encompassing decades of huge tracks and celebrated his 70th birthday with a sold-out show at the Royal Albert Hall.

Kneecap responds to 'legend' who streamed their Glastonbury set

The Irish rap trio played to a packed-out crowd on the West Holts stage in Glastonbury on Saturday after festival organisers had to close access to the area over fears of overcrowding. However, hours before the group was due to take the stage, the BBC announced that they would not live stream their performance and instead would upload an on-demand version later on Saturday. The BBC's decision to omit Kneecap's performance from its live coverage prompted one festival goer to take matters into her own hands, as Helen Wilson live-streamed the set in its entirety on TikTok. READ MORE: Scottish refugee charity 'won't shut up, it will show up', says founder Wilson's stream amassed more than two million likes from those watching at home and even reportedly burned her fingers after holding up her phone for the hour-long show. Replying to a clip shared on her TikTok, Kneecap said: 'Helen you're a legend ! Tickets to any show just giz a shout! Grma.' Wilson, who was shocked at the band's comment on her live video, replied: 'I cannot believe this. 'Thank you so much for everything you do and stand for.' #Glastonbury2025 #Glasto Helen Wilson held her phone in air for one hour to live stream to break the BBC censorship of kneecap performance What a legend and big thank you Helen censorship from a government of starmer has no place in a democratic society — Mairtín (@Martin_BELFast) June 28, 2025 Wilson was also thanked by Kneecap fans across the internet branding her a 'true hero', with one person saying on X/Twitter: 'Honestly Helen was amazing!!! 'She has battery issues, her arms hurt, her phone kept getting too warm, but SHE BLOODY POWERED THROUGH! Peoples princess Helen!!' During the performance, Kneecap led the crowd in chants of "Free Palestine" along with joking that the "BBC editor is gonna have some job". Adding: 'Sometimes we feel helpless, sometimes we feel like we're not doing enough, and that's probably true sometimes. 'But the difference it makes to people in Palestine, when they see people from the other side of the world, to see this many people.' Mo Chara also declared to the crowd, 'Glastonbury, I'm a free man!' after recently being charged under the UK Terrorism Act. His comments come after he, real name Liam Og O hAnnaidh, 27, was charged with allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah, while saying 'up Hamas, up Hezbollah' at a gig in November last year. The rapper, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was cheered by hundreds of supporters as he arrived with bandmates Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh at Westminster Magistrates' Court in Free Mo Chara T-shirts. He was released on unconditional bail until his next hearing at the same court on August 20. Following the trio's performance on Saturday, police said they are assessing videos of comments made by Kneecap and Bob Vylan. Rapper Bobby Vylan, of rap punk duo Bob Vylan, led crowds on the festival's West Holts Stage in chants of: 'Free, free Palestine' and: 'Death, death to the IDF'. It has been reported that police are looking into Kneecap's performance after a member of the Irish rap trio suggested fans 'start a riot' outside his bandmate's upcoming court appearance.

Man buys every scratch card on Ryanair flight and is left stunned by winnings

Man buys every scratch card on Ryanair flight and is left stunned by winnings A man decided to buy every single scratch card on a Ryanair flight to see if he would win big - and the results had him and his pal gobsmacked A man snapped up every scratch card on a Ryanair flight (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) A man's decision to purchase an array of scratch cards during a Ryanair flight took a surprising turn, with results that completely astonished him. Known as Vik on TikTok, he chronicled how his mate, Ethan, decided to test his fortune by buying the entirety of the scratch cards available on the aircraft; the outcome, however, was beyond their wildest expectations. In a travel video uploaded online, Vik expressed disbelief at what they had at the end of their flight. Ethan's enthusiasm for scratch cards reached a point where fellow fliers joined in to help scratch away. ‌ Recounting the events, Viktok remarked: "We are here on Ryanair and this man Ethan has bought every single scratch card on the flight. I've opened about 100 scratch cards, I've been opening these one at a time." For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation, sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here . ‌ Their luck appeared non-existent as he added: "We have not won a single thing. We have won nothing - no one has won anything. I'll keep you guys posted." Vik went on to record their adventure which revealed Ethan had acquired 68 packs of scratch cards. Despite the collective scratching frenzy, luck was nowhere to be found, reports Belfast Live. Ethan's sheer volume of purchases led other passengers to lend a hand, though it seemed no prizes were forthcoming. You can hear someone exclaim: "No one won anything." Article continues below Vik lamented: "You're supposed to match three - I can't even match two. We've lost again." To their dismay, not a single prize was secured. The shared footage has since gone viral, attracting thousands of views and prompting viewers to share a multitude of responses. One remarked: "100% they won't allow mass buying on the flight again, lol." Another, professing to be a Ryanair cabin crew member, warned: "I am cabin crew for Ryanair and there is so much more that you don't know. They can't sell you that many. There is a limit spend per passenger. Cabin crew in trouble!". Yet another chimed in: "I wonder how many people have ever won money on those." ‌ Someone else shared their modest win, saying: "I remember winning like £26 of on board vouchers. When asking to buy something, I heard the cabin crew say 'someone's actually won'. That's how slim your odds are." Ryanair scratch cards have been under scrutiny for years following revelations that jackpot "winners" are subsequently entered into a separate draw with a chance to win the €1million prize. The 2016 exposé revealed that the fortunate individual would face an additional challenge of choosing from 125 envelopes, only one of which contained the grand prize. At that time, Ryanair clarified that some envelopes offered €50,000, implying other substantial amounts could still be claimed. ‌ Reports also mentioned that there was a chance to win a car each month in these draws, along with other monetary rewards amounting to as much as €5,000. Surprisingly, the probability of hitting the jackpot was disclosed to be about 1 in 1.2 billion. For comparison, the likelihood of winning the Lotto domestically is roughly 1 in 10.7 million, while securing the EuroMillions jackpot is estimated at chances of 1 in 139.8 million. With the National Lottery, you're only allowed to buy 10 scratch cards in a single transaction, but it's not clear what the limit is with Ryanair. The company has been approached for a response to these allegations. Article continues below

Police 'examining' Kneecap and Bob Vylan Glastonbury performances

Rapper Bobby Vylan, of rap punk duo Bob Vylan, led crowds on the festival's West Holts Stage in chants of: 'Free, free Palestine' and: 'Death, death to the IDF'. It has been reported that police are looking into Kneecap's performance after a member of the Irish rap trio suggested fans 'start a riot' outside his bandmate's upcoming court appearance. In a post on social media, Avon and Somerset Police said: 'We are aware of the comments made by acts on the West Holts Stage at Glastonbury Festival this afternoon. READ MORE: Scottish refugee charity 'won't shut up, it will show up', says founder 'Video evidence will be assessed by officers to determine whether any offences may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation.' Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has spoken to the BBC director general about Bob Vylan's performance, a government spokesperson said. They added: 'We strongly condemn the threatening comments made by Bob Vylan at Glastonbury. 'The Culture Secretary has spoken to the BBC Director General to seek an urgent explanation about what due diligence it carried out ahead of the Bob Vylan performance, and welcomes the decision not to re-broadcast it on BBC iPlayer.' A BBC spokesperson said: 'Some of the comments made during Bob Vylan's set were deeply offensive. During this live stream on iPlayer, which reflected what was happening on stage, a warning was issued on screen about the very strong and discriminatory language. We have no plans to make the performance available on demand.' During Kneecap's set, which was not aired by the BBC, band member Naoise O Caireallain, stage name Moglai Bap, lead chants of 'fuck Keir Starmer'. He told the crowd: 'The prime minister of your country, not mine, said he didn't want us to play, so fuck Keir Starmer.' Moglai Bap's comments come after several politicians, including the Prime Minister, called for Kneecap to be removed from the line-up. The band also led crowds in chants of 'Free Palestine', with Liam Og O hAnnaidh, stage name Mo Chara, commenting on the sheer number of flags at the festival after the field where they played had to be closed following overcrowding concerns. O hAnnaidh wore a keffiyeh during the hour-long set, while member JJ O Dochartaigh, stage name DJ Provai, wore his signature tri-coloured balaclava along with a T-shirt that said: 'We are all Palestine Action', in reference to the soon-to-be banned campaign group. The Belfast group made the headlines after O hAnnaidh, 27, was charged with allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah, while saying 'up Hamas, up Hezbollah' at a gig in November last year. Last week, the rapper, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, was cheered by hundreds of supporters as he arrived with bandmates Naoise O Caireallain and JJ O Dochartaigh at Westminster Magistrates' Court in Free Mo Chara T-shirts. He was released on unconditional bail until his next hearing at the same court on August 20.
