A world-famous Mexico City bar is popping up in NYC next week

Time Out12-05-2025
For the past few years, my hometown of Mexico City has finally been recognized as a giant in the global beverage scene, and this year, a Mexico City bar, Handshake, was named the number one bar in the world.
But there's another Mexico City bar that's my personal favorite—it's called Hanky Panky, and it has also been recognized as one of the world's best many times over since it opened in 2016. Next Thursday, May 22, Hanky Panky is popping up New York City for one night, and you should definitely try it for yourself.
If you've never been, going to Mexico City's Hanky Panky is a whole experience. Located in the trendy neighborhood of Juarez, it's not an easy spot to find—I walked aimlessly up and down the same block at least three times in search of it. It turns out that the bar is hidden behind a nondescript taco restaurant that looks like dozens of others in the neighborhood. You have to ask the person behind the counter about the bar (they won't willingly tell you if you walk by looking lost), and if you're lucky enough to get a reservation, you'll be led to a secret staircase behind a fridge stacked with Modelo beers.
The bar itself is indescribably chic, with velvet booths and floating bookshelves that give it that members-only feel. It's clear from the jump that the spirits are the focus here—the menu is organized with text and images that walk you through the background of each spirit as well as the ingredients in each cocktail. Admittedly, I must have had close to six drinks when I was there, with my favorites being the mezcal-forward cocktails.
Hanky Panky is popping up at The View, New York's only revolving restaurant, which is located in the heart of Times Square. The pop-up was brought to New York by Tequila Enemigo, and Adrián López from Hanky Panky's very own team will be there serving the drinks. A variety of cocktails from the iconic bar will be served, but the focus will be its famous Paloma, which traditionally includes tequila, lime juice and a grapefruit-flavored soda. Coincidentally, all of will take place on World Paloma Day, May 22.
If the pop-up is anything like the Mexico City experience, expect to be educated and wowed by the depth of flavor and range of Hanky Panky's drinks. Make sure to make a reservation sooner rather than later to guarantee a spot. The event will begin at 7:30pm, and you can RSVP for it here.

Footage of MLB teammates' bizarre sexual handshake goes viral

Footage of the bizarre sexual handshake between Philadelphia Phillies teammates Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson has gone viral after the pair were seen touching each other. In the dugout of Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers, Harper approached Wilson, with the two high-fiving before appearing to check each other's athletic supporters. The move was done simultaneously and without eye contact, drawing the attention of the internet. Some have branded the move as strange, while others see it as two MLB players letting loose and not taking themselves too seriously. Wilson ended up replacing Harper in the game at first base after the two-time National League MVP was ejected from the contest. Yet, even in victory, many remember more about the duo's handshake than what occurred outside the dugout. Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson appeared to do a cup check while the game happened 'Christian Wilkins would THRIVE here,' one MLB fan said about the former Las Vegas Raider who was released in part for kissing a teammate. 'Damn. Keep that play in the clubhouse fellas,' a second person stated. 'Good friends double check if their friends remembered their cups,' a third added. Dude get Weston Wilson off this baseball team NOW. Bryce's non reaction too… I got my eyes on you now too Mr Harper,' a fourth said. 'Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson's handshake is nuts,' a fifth concluded. A collection of messages about Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson's bizarre handshake The Phillies enter Saturday's showdowns a half-game ahead of the New York Mets for first place in the NL East. Both teams are in solid shape to make the postseason, regardless of which wins the division. Harper has been an integral part of Philadelphia's push for the postseason this year, and has not been shy of drumming up controversy, including with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. Maybe his secret to staying relevant all along has been his dugout handshake with Wilson.

The View likened to 'insane asylum' by critic for 'booking 102 liberal guests and NO conservatives'

Fox News ' Guy Benson slammed 'The View' as an 'insane asylum' after a study from Media Research Center's NewsBusters determined the show has welcomed 102 left-leaning guests this year. The study, which looked at episodes from January 6 through July 25, also said 'zero conservatives ' appeared on the daytime opinion show. Arnold Schwarzenegger, an anti-Trump Republican, appeared last month. The former Golden State governor was discounted due to voting for Kamala Harris, NewsBusters editors said. Benson, a Fox News contributor, reacted live to the results on Friday's 'Fox & Friends.' There, host Ainsley Earhardt joked: 'So "The View" only has one view?' Co-host Brian Kilmeade similarly lamented: 'They used to be somewhat balanced,' recalling how Barbara Walters started the show in 1997 'to get some political points of view – no script – and just get a conversation going and let us know what women talk about when they're together. 'Then what happened? It ends up being an angry Democratic show,' he asserted, pacing the way for Benson. 'I am actually surprised by this because 102 seems a little low,' he began, eventually proclaiming, 'It's an insane asylum now.' 'The left talked for years about bringing back the fairness doctrine,' he told Kilmeade, Earhardt, and Lawrence Jones. 'This was an obsession of theirs to try to clamp down on the success of [conservative] talk radio. 'If they had succeeded and had gotten the fairness doctrine, " The View" would be out of business for that reason alone,' Benson argued. '[The show] would be basically illegal.' Jones then chimed to accuse the show's co-hosts - Whoopi Goldberg, Ana Navarro, lone Republican Alyssa Farrah Griffin, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, and Sunny Hostin - of being hostile toward right-leaning guests they have had on in the past. Kilmeade, meanwhile, called the discrepancy the 'least surprising stat ever.' Daily Mail has contacted ABC, which broadcasts The View, for comment. A source pushed back on claims the program does not welcome conservative talking points. 'Without going into detail about the show's booking process, there is wide outreach across the aisle,' the insider told Daily Mail. Guests this year, meanwhile, have included the likes of former President Joe Biden, rising Congressional Democrat Jasmine Crockett, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer and Elissa Slotkin. John Fetterman, Pennsylvania 's centrist Democrat senator, appeared on the program on January 27. Goldberg, Haines, Navarro, and Hostin went on to pepper him with questions about his relationship with Donald Trump, whom Fetterman defended. A slew of left-leaning stars have appeared since, including famed feminist Gloria Steinem, MSNBC's Molly Jong-Fast and Javier Bardem. Stars like Mariska Hargitay and Republican Kelsey Grammer were not counted, however, due to the study not including stars whose segments did not touch on politics, the media analyst who did the research, Nick Fondacaro, said. 'The View has undergone some major changes since last year which proves it has gotten more extreme,' he told Daily Mail Friday. 'Prior to their winter break, the cast would defend and praise their reliance on legal notes, only to abandon the practice altogether in the latter half of the season. 'Meanwhile, they've gotten more comfortable with making wild, unsubstantiated actuations in the early months of the second Trump administration, which seem to not ruffle feathers in ABC's Standards and Practices division.' He added how longtime Executive Producer Brian Teta has repeatedly 'defended the show's biases and legal notes by arguing it functions like the editorial pages of a newspaper. 'But even newspapers have editorial standards that keep them from saying some of the unhinged things that The View has said this year,' he claimed. T he Media Research Center, meanwhile, is a conservative watchdog group started in 1987.

Rosie O'Donnell says 'cruel' Trump supporters forced her to flee America

Rosie O'Donnell has been involved in a long-standing feud with US President Donald Trump and she has now opened up about how his supporters forced her to leave America Comedian Rosie O'Donnell has opened up about the "cruel" backlash from Donald Trump supporters that drove her to leave the US in a bid for "self-preservation". ‌ The 63-year-old American talk show host has been embroiled in a bitter dispute with the President of the United States ever since she took a swipe at him almost twenty years ago. ‌ In a 2006 episode of The View, during the Hot Topics segment, Rosie didn't hold back in her criticism of Trump. ‌ Trump, who was not a politician at the time, hit back by branding Rosie "a woman out of control", and their animosity has persisted over the years. While chatting with Christine Lampard, who was filling in on Tuesday's Lorraine, Rosie disclosed that the ongoing conflict prompted her to up sticks and move to Ireland for the sake of her own well-being and that of her family. ‌ Discussing her relocation to Ireland earlier this year, she said: "I just think this is the best decision I could have made for myself and my child, I love it here, we've been welcomed by everyone," reports the Express. Following a DNA test that confirmed Rosie's Irish heritage as 100 per cent, she expressed that there was never any doubt about her destination if she ever felt compelled to leave America due to its political atmosphere. "There was never a question for me where I would go if I had to leave the country because of the political climate, and that's what I felt I had to do, and I'm so glad that this is where we came, and so thrilled at the warm welcome we've received," she elaborated. ‌ Rosie also touched upon her choice to relocate following the spat with Trump, seeking to distance herself from the "intensity" of the situation. She reminisced about poking fun at his hair back in 2006, doing "did what comedians have been doing for years" and then noted: "He went really crazy, he could not get himself to get over it for over 20 years. ‌ "He uses me as a punching line and disparages me and insults me and calls me names like it's a kid in school and I'm being teased. "But when I talked about him, he was not the President, he was a reality TV host, he was a bit of a joke in New York. "Nobody really took him seriously in 2006 at all, and then he becomes the President of the United States. ‌ "And does he stop? No. He puts the pedal to the medal and uses my name in the debate and it was difficult for my children." Rosie disclosed that Trump's remarks and political actions were the reasons behind her departure. ‌ "I knew I could not stay in my country and be a healthy parent that I need to be for this child, with all of this destruction going on in the country that he had planned and now has implemented. "So it really was self-preservation. I knew I had to take care of myself mentally and emotionally, and being here has given me that distance, and I don't live in fear of what someone is going to say to me in Walmart. "Even though most people are very kind, the MAGA people are emboldened by his cruelty to be just as cruel, even to my face. "I knew for my own safety and health that I had to leave, but he hasn't stopped; he just threatened to take away my citizenship a couple of weeks ago."
