Odisha to launch EV policy 2.0, targets 50% battery EV registrations by 2036
The Odisha government is set to roll out its updated Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0 with an ambitious target—achieving 50per cent battery electric vehicle (BEV) share in all new vehicle registrations by 2036, reports PTI.
According to an official statement issued on Wednesday, the state is currently revising its Odisha EV Policy 2021, focusing on extending its validity and enhancing incentives for EV buyers and Charge Point Operators (CPOs). The revamped policy is expected to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in the state.
A high-level meeting held in Bhubaneswar, chaired by Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport, and Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy, reviewed the roadmap for EV growth. Senior officials from both departments participated in extensive deliberations to strategize Odisha's transition toward sustainable mobility.
EV adoption in state
The state has already witnessed a significant rise in EV adoption—up from 1.16per cent of new registrations in 2021 to 8.71per cent as of June 20, 2025. Odisha currently operates over 550 public charging stations (PCS), including captive infrastructure from two-wheeler OEMs, oil marketing firms, and power utilities.
To expand charging infrastructure, the State Transport Authority (STA) has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for the development of EV charging stations at key locations statewide.
The revised policy will follow a holistic approach, aiming to boost both the supply side through support for local manufacturing and the demand side via consumer incentives—ensuring balanced and inclusive growth in the state's EV ecosystem.
