Progressive rock icon Serge Fiori's national funeral will take place on July 15 at Place des Arts in Montreal, the province announced Wednesday.
Fiori 'contributed to the building of Quebec's musical identity. Our nation owes him a lot,' Premier François Legault said in a news release.
The funeral will start at 3 p.m. in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. Members of the public can attend the funeral, the news release said, but instructions for obtaining tickets haven't been announced.
The Quebec flag at the National Assembly will fly at half-mast on the day of the ceremony.
Fiori died June 24, on the Fête nationale, at age 73.
The singer-songwriter was the founding artist of Harmonium. Though the band only released three albums before breaking up, it left a lasting imprint on Quebec's cultural identity. His song Pour un instant was a classic of the lyric-driven Quebec chanson genre.
