Honda 0 SUV Prototype Spotted in Tokyo, with Max Verstappen Driving
Honda sent Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda out in its upcoming prototype between runs in iconic F1 machinery.
Initially unveiled at CES 2025, Honda's 0 SUV prototype is a mid-size electric ute slated to go into production at Honda's Ohio EV Hub in 2026.
As part of a series of , the 0 SUV will be joined by a wedge-shaped in late 2026.
With the Red Bull Racing and Honda partnership coming to a close at the end of this year's Formula 1 season, the two manufacturers put on quite a show in the streets of Tokyo ahead of the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix this weekend. The celebratory show run saw Red Bull's driver lineup ripping full tilt through a closed course between the office buildings of Aoyama's business district in some iconic Red Bull and Honda F1 machinery. At one point in the event, Honda gave the audience a reprieve from the screaming V-8s and hybrid V-6s by sending its electric 0-Series SUV prototype onto the street course with four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen behind the wheel. Needless to say, he left his earplugs behind.
This is the first time that we've seen the Honda 0 SUV prototype in motion following its unveiling at CES 2025 in January. As part of Honda's upcoming 0 Series lineup of electric vehicles, the funky-looking 0 SUV will be the first model built using Honda's newest EV architecture. Honda hasn't released many facts or figures about the 0 SUV's range capabilities or battery tech, but we do know that it will likely offer Level 3 autonomous driving and a next-gen operating system called ASIMO OS.
In addition to the windswept mid-size SUV, a wedge-shaped 0 Saloon will also be added to Honda's new electric roster at a later date. Both models will be built in Honda's EV Hub in Marysville, Ohio, with production models of the 0 SUV slated for a mid-2026 release and the 0 Saloon following at the end of the year.
In online videos of the event, Verstappen and his new Honda-backed teammate Yuki Tsunoda looked like they were enjoying their leisurely drive in the purple-camo-wrapped electric prototype, laughing while sipping 12-ounce cans of Red Bull. While Max did the driving in the 0 SUV, his new teammate will be hoping to make an impression behind the wheel of his new car at his home race this weekend.
