Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty on One Charge in New York Rape Retrial

A jury found the former Hollywood producer guilty of one of the three sex crimes charges in his New York retrial on June 11. Weinstein was convicted of the charge of a Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, stemming from his 2006 alleged assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley. He was found not guilty of a charge of a Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree over his alleged assault of Kaja Sokola in 2006. The jury has yet to reach a verdict on the third count, relating to the alleged 2013 rape of aspiring actress Jessica Mann. (Deliberations are set to continue June 12.) Weinstein, 73, was originally found guilty of third-degree rape and one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree during his trial in 2020, resulting in a 23-year sentence behind bars, per NBC News. However, his conviction was overturned in April 2024, with New York's highest court determining that improper testimony had been allowed at the trial. 'We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes,' the court said, "because that testimony served no material non-propensity purpose." In his retrial, he also faced a new allegation from Sokola, who said she met Weinstein at a club in 2002 when she was 16 and working as a fashion model, according to The New York Times. She alleged that he forcibly performed oral sex on her at a hotel in Manhattan four years later, leading to one more count of a first-degree criminal sexual act, per NBC News. 'They all had dreams of pursuing careers in the defendant's world, the entertainment industry,' prosecutor Nicole Blumberg told jurors June 3, per The Associated Press. "He was going to have their bodies and touch their bodies whether they wanted him to or not.' But, according to the outlet, Weinstein's lawyer argued, 'It's transactional, folks. Yes, he wants to fool around with them, and yes, they want something from him." Since the start of the #MeToo movement, over 80 women have accused the Oscar winner of sexual misconduct, though he maintains his interactions were consensual, per NBC. Weinstein—who was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer last year—is also serving 16 years in prison following a separate 2022 conviction of one count of forcible rape and two counts of sexual assault in his Los Angeles case. Why Alex Cooper Decided to Share Sexual Harassment Allegations

While the podcaster does open up about allegedly being sexually harassed by her college soccer coach Nancy Feldman in her new documentary Call Her Alex, the project wasn't initially concepted to share her story—that is until one moment changed everything. "Towards the end of filming this documentary, new information came to light,' Alex explained in a special June 11 episode of Call Her Daddy. Similar to previous comments made during a panel, Alex alleged that she 'found out' the 'harassment' was allegedly continuing at the institution. 'I found out that other women had stepped onto that same field and experienced the same harassment I did.' And after speaking with one of the alleged victims, the 30-year-old continued, 'Everything changed for me that day. It really put in perspective that the harassment and abuse of power was, and is, so much bigger than me. It is systemic and it's happening everywhere." More from E! Yet, Alex will be among the first to share how difficult it was to do so. 'It took me a decade to tell this story, and I'll be honest even saying the words right now, 'I was sexually harassed by my college soccer coach,' I still feel uneasy and uncomfortable and anxious with all of it,' she said, later adding, 'I think I've hesitated to share my story for various reasons. I think the first obvious is that it's really painful to talk about, and I think a part of my also feels embarrassed that this happened to me. The Call Her Daddy girl. In coming forward I was also afraid of retaliation. I also worried people would downplay or dismiss the severity of what I experienced because the abuse wasn't physical.' E! News previously reached out to Nancy Feldman and Boston University for comment but has not yet heard back, and neither party has publicly responded to Alex's allegations. But in learning that others said they had, and allegedly continue, to experience similar harassment—despite Nancy retiring from BU in 2022—Alex explained she knew 'without a doubt' it was time to share her story. 'Opening up about this in the documentary, is yes not only a way for me to share what I've endured,' she said, 'but also what women continue to endure everywhere every single day. So, I am here today, Daddy Gang, to say to any other victims: you are not alone, I see you, I believe you and I stand with you.' And while Call Her Alex became the place she decided to share her experience, Alex knows the story shared in the documentary—her story—is so much bigger. 'I know that this experience doesn't define me,' she said, 'and there are so many other beautiful moments of my life I also got to share over the course of filming this project.' Tammy Slaton Doesn't Look Like This Anymore As She Makes First Public Outing After Skin Removal Surgery
Tammy Slaton, star of the TLC reality show "1000-Lb Sisters," revealed the stunning results of her weight loss and skin removal surgery during a recent meet and greet with fans. Looking healthier and happier than ever, Tammy posed for photos alongside her sister Amy Slaton, siblings Amanda Halterman and Chris Combs, and sister-in-law Brittany Combs at the event, as seen in a viral video. Tammy Slaton has since received praise for the transformation both offline and online after previously achieving a weight loss milestone of over 200 pounds. Tammy has begun showing off her new look after undergoing cosmetic surgery to remove excess skin from her body, a result of her weight loss journey. As seen in a viral video, the 38-year-old visited Shawneetown, Illinois, over the weekend for a meet and greet with fans of the TLC show. "Got to meet @Amy halterman @Tammy L Slaton @Amanda Halterman Chris and Brittany from @tlc," captioned the fan who took the footage. For the event, Tammy was joined by her sister and 1000-Lb Sister's co-star Amy Slaton, siblings Amanda Halterman and Chris Combs, and sister-in-law Brittany Combs. She also dressed very casually, wearing denim jeans, a dark inner top, and a light blue, long-sleeved shirt. Tammy could also be seen interacting with fans in the video and taking pictures that showcased her remarkable transformation. In the comment section of the viral video, fans praised Tammy for her weight loss journey. "I've never been more proud of a stranger than I am of Tammy. I really never thought she'd end up this successful with weight loss, she deserves the world," a user said. "I've never in my life been more proud of a stranger. The accomplishments and the amount of weight she's lost are just amazing," a second individual remarked. Many fans also praised Brittany and speculated that she had undergone a similar surgery to Tammy's. Tammy's new look comes after she achieved a weight loss milestone by dropping to 201 pounds, a massive reduction from the 700 pounds she weighed when the TLC series began in 2020. At the time, TLC shared a clip on their page of Tammy reacting to the weight loss milestone in disbelief. "Am I reading that wrong?" the reality star said aloud when she saw her new weight on the scale. "I've lost about 50-something pounds since being here?" Elsewhere in the video, Tammy also responded with, "I can't remember the last time being this small," when her sister, Amy, congratulated her on the achievement. She later shared in a confession that she had initially felt that there "ain't no way" the number that she saw on the scale was "right." Prior to having her skin removal surgery, Tammy was seen in a clip expressing her fears about the procedure. "Just really the pain and then my fear of how I'm going to look [when] looking at myself afterwards," Tammy said in the clip per E! News. "I'm so used to seeing all this hanging [from] my arms and now… I'm going to look halfway normal from [the] face down. It's scary but rewarding at the same time." The reality star also reflected on how her routines will take a different shape after the surgery. She noted, "Showering is going to be so much different because—I'm not trying to be nasty, y'all, I'm sorry—but I have to take my hand and go all the way up underneath there, and it's kind of deep. In less than a week, I'm not going to have that." Tammy revealed her new look early on TikTok after undergoing excess skin removal surgery when she took to the video-sharing platform to post a series of new snaps with her girlfriend, Andrea. Fans couldn't help but notice how different she looked without a filter on, with many congratulating her for successfully undergoing the surgery. A fan wrote, "Tammy! You had skin removal on your face! You look so good! Love it! So proud of you and your accomplishments." Tammy also looked loved up in the clip alongside Andrea. On Tuesday, June 10, viewers finally got to see Slaton, 38, after she had more than 10 pounds of skin removed from her neck, abdomen and arms following a 500-pound weight loss. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Under the guidance of , chair of plastic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center—along with three other attending surgeons, two nurse and surgical tech teams and an anesthesia team—the combined procedures took approximately eight hours to complete. "Tammy is such a wonderful example of the type of courage and determination that it takes to achieve this type of weight loss goal," Dr. Rubin exclusively told Parade via phone ahead of the 1000-Lb Sisters Season 7 finale. "People think that if you have bariatric surgery, you know, it's the easy way out. It's really not," he continued. "That takes a huge amount of courage and commitment." As the plastic surgeon explained, dropping the weight was only one part of the journey to Slaton's excess skin removal. "You have to do all of the lifestyle components that go with it," Dr. Rubin said. "Tammy had a really great bariatric surgeon, , who has really been a pleasure to work with." After Tammy underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2022, viewers watched her finally qualify for excess skin removal in Season 7 of 1000-Lb Sisters—but only after she hit a couple of health goals, including quitting vaping. "A lot of people don't realize that nicotine use poses a tremendous increase in risk of wound healing complications with plastic surgery," Dr. Rubin explained. "So many, it's very common for plastic surgeons to work with their patients to get them off of nicotine products for an elective procedure." Another barrier to Tammy getting approved for excess skin removal surgery was the low protein levels in her body. "That's another common theme that we see in patients who have lost a tremendous amount of weight," Dr. Rubin shared. "And we worked, we really got her entire medical care team together, not just my team, but her bariatric team, her primary care doctor—and we all worked with her to get her to boost her protein intake." Although Slaton opted for excess skin removal, not everyone who goes through significant weight loss wants or needs the procedure. "We really focus on, you know, what's important to each patient and rather than trying to, 'You've lost weight, you're going to need this operation and that operation,'" Dr. Rubin explained. "We want to work with them and really individualize and personalize every treatment program." Ultimately, the most important factor in anyone's skin-removal journey, Dr. Rubin shared, is the "safety of our patients and making sure that we're working with them collaboratively to have conditions optimized."
