Shaquill Griffin's new Seahawks jersey number revealed

The Seattle Seahawks officially reunited with cornerback Shaquill Griffin towards the end of June. Griffin, originally a third round selection by Seattle during the 2017 NFL draft, has made his way back to the Emerald City on a one-year deal after four years and four teams away. However, Griffin will be sporting a somewhat new look in his second stint. When he was last with the Seahawks, the Pro Bowler wore the No. 26 jersey, which is currently occupied by running back Zach Charbonnet. This time around, Griffin will be wearing a number with immense history in Seattle... No. 24. There is a considerable portion of the 12th Man that would like to see No. 24 retired permanently by the Seahawks organization. Historically, Seattle has only retired the jerseys of those who went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame primarily as Seahawks - such as Steve Largent, Walter Jones, Cortez Kennedy, and Kenny Easley. But Marshawn Lynch is a different case, as he was truly the face of the organization's rise to national prominence during the Pete Carroll era. His unique personality and bruising playing style has made him a cult classic in the Pacific Northwest. There is of course the Ken Griffey Jr. connection to the number as well, who also wore No. 24. There are just as many Seattle sports fans who would like to see the No. 24 retired city-wide across all the professional teams in the region. But for now, No. 24 will once again take the field in Seattle, and hopefully there's still a little magic left in it for a legacy Seahawk like Shaquill Griffin. Happy Birthday to Mike Macdonald!

We at Seahawks Wire wanted to acknowledge and wish Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald a Happy Birthday! On this day 38 years ago, Macdonald entered this world. Now, he is entering his second season as head coach for the Seahawks. It is almost impossible for the 12th Man to feel anything but optimism for the overall direction of the Seahawks with Macdonald at the helm. In his first year, he showed why Seattle waited until the Baltimore Ravens were eliminated from the playoffs to be able to hire him as their ninth head coach in franchise history. Macdonald was hired to finally fix the lackluster Seahawks defense, and by the second half of his rookie campaign, they were among the best in the league. Seattle finished 10-7, their first double-digit win season since 2020, and barely missed out on winning the NFC West due to the 5th tiebreaker. Now, Macdonald (along with general manager John Schneider) has helped to remake the Seahawks in his image. We at Seahawks Wire hope Macdonald and his family are enjoying this special day, wherever they may be!

Sam Darnold had "up and down" day of practice at OTA's

The Seattle Seahawks are taking several major gambles for their 2025 squad, but none bigger than quarterback Sam Darnold. Seattle decided to go younger and cheaper at the game's most important position by moving on from Geno Smith and rolling with Darnold. How far they go this year will hinge largely on whether or not Darnold's explosive 2024 campaign with the Vikings was indicative of who he truly is as a signal caller, or if it was a one-hit-wonder. From the sounds of it at Seattle's fourth OTA practice, it was a bit of a mixed result. Darnold had plenty of quality throws, but a handful of mistakes to go along with them as well. Whether it was a trio or a couple, the fact Darnold threw interceptions in the red zone is more than a little concerning. Yes, it is early June. There is essentially a lifetime (or what feels like) between now and the regular season kick off against the San Francisco 49ers. But Geno Smith led the NFL in red zone interceptions last year with four, which ultimately proved disastrous - especially since two of them came during the 26-20 overtime loss to the Rams. Advertisement Like I said, there is more than enough time for things to get cleaned up for Darnold and this offense. Still, red zone interceptions are not what the 12th Man wants to hear at any point. This article originally appeared on Seahawks Wire: Sam Darnold had "up and down" day of practice at OTA's

First look at Jalen Milroe in a Seahawks uniform

First look at Jalen Milroe in a Seahawks uniform The Seattle Seahawks made an uncommon move in the 2025 NFL draft when they selected quarterback Jalen Milroe in the third round. Milroe joined Russell Wilson and Alex McGough as the only quarterbacks taken by Seattle in the John Schneider era, and the highest they've picked a quarterback since Wilson in 2012. The dynamic athleticism of Milroe makes him an incredibly tantalizing prospect, but one that will need some time to develop in order to become a full-time franchise caliber signal caller. Still, what Milroe offers is enough to excite even the most pessimistic 12th Man out there. On Sunday, the NFL Player's Association shared a video of Milroe all suited up for the first time in his Seahawks home uniform. This was from the annual rookie premiere, and I must say, navy and neon looks good on the former Crimson Tide standout.
