Crowdsourced security gives CISOs edge in AI & data privacy

A new research report from HackerOne reveals how a select group of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) are achieving a security advantage by fully leveraging crowdsourced security techniques. The report, entitled 'The 15% Advantage: How High-Performing CISOs Leverage Crowdsourced Security,' is based on a global survey of 400 CISOs from large organisations across 13 industries. It highlights an emerging trend: while almost all CISOs are aware of crowdsourced security methods, only a minority are applying all major components - bug bounties, vulnerability disclosure programmes (VDPs), and third-party penetration testing - in tandem. Adoption statistics According to the research, 94% of CISOs are familiar with crowdsourced security. Despite this widespread awareness, just 15% use all three key components together. The report identifies a noticeable difference in outcomes depending on the breadth of adoption. While 73% of CISOs who employ any form of crowdsourced security rate it as effective in identifying and eliminating vulnerabilities, this figure increases to 89% among those deploying the combination of bug bounties, VDPs, and third-party penetration tests. Alex Rice, Co-Founder and CISO at HackerOne, commented on the increasing responsibilities faced by CISOs today. "There are many demands on the modern CISO. As the CISO role increases in complexity with the responsibility for AI safety and data privacy, it's critical that CISOs leverage the full spectrum of offensive security tools to keep pace with modern threats," he said. Changing CISO roles The findings underscore the expanding remit of CISOs in enterprise environments. The survey indicates that 84% of CISOs are now responsible for AI safety, reflecting a significant shift from traditional cybersecurity priorities. Data privacy is also prominent, with 82% of respondents reporting oversight responsibility in this area. Kara Sprague, Chief Executive Officer of HackerOne, emphasised the evolving nature of security leadership in an AI-driven climate. Crowdsourced security isn't new. But leading with it in the age of AI is what sets today's top CISOs apart. As AI expands the enterprise attack surface and raises the stakes for rapid response, human ingenuity and outside perspective are more essential than ever. Organisations seeing the most value engage the global community of independent security researchers for responsible vulnerability disclosure, bug bounty, and pentesting across their digital assets and AI systems. This is about moving beyond experimentation and point solutions - toward a proactive, integrated approach. Effectiveness and future plans The report outlines clear effectiveness in using crowdsourced security for critical new risks, including AI vulnerabilities. Of the CISOs currently deploying crowdsourced methods, 81% find them effective for discovering and eliminating threats within AI systems. Additionally, 88% cite positive outcomes from crowdsourced approaches in general. For those not yet utilising crowdsourced security, interest is high. 86% of CISOs in this group intend to adopt such measures within the next year, with more than half specifically planning to address AI-related security risks. Organisational motivation The report notes that offensive security is increasingly a board-level concern, driving demand for external perspectives and tests that can surface issues missed by in-house teams. High-performing CISOs adopting all three key elements of crowdsourced security appear to realise stronger protection, supporting a trend towards more proactive and comprehensive security measures in large organisations. The survey data and accompanying analysis in 'The 15% Advantage' highlight how the adoption of a full range of crowdsourced security practices is emerging as a strategic approach among a leading subset of CISOs to address contemporary threats, particularly related to AI and data privacy.

Uptime's 15 th Annual Global Data Center Survey Results Show Both Commitment and Hesitancy as Industry Plans for Wider AI Usage, Climate Change Reporting, and the NVIDIA Revolution to Come

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Uptime Institute today announced the release of its 15 th Annual Global Data Center Survey 2025 revealing an innovative and resilient industry – one that is also facing rising costs, worsening power constraints, and challenges in meeting the demands for AI. As operators expand and modernize to meet power and density requirements, they must address availability, efficiency, staffing challenges, supply chain delays, and unpredictable technological advances. Our data shows operators managing big strategic challenges, these include anticipating multiple technological changes, planning for expansion in spite of major constraints on power availability, and preparing to support unpredictable AI workload demand. 'Our data shows operators are tasked with managing a lot of big strategic challenges at the same time. These include anticipating multiple technological changes, planning for expansion in spite of major constraints on power availability, and preparing for and supporting unpredictable AI workload demand,' said Andy Lawrence, Executive Director of Research, Uptime Institute. 'This is a time where senior level experience is critical. But for the first time, more operators are finding it harder to recruit and retain senior people than people at an earlier stage of their career. There is a management shortage, with many experienced leaders retiring just as another phase of dramatic growth gets underway.' Roughly one-third of data center owners and operators currently perform some AI training or inference, and a significantly greater proportion plan to do so in the future. But much of this is early stage and cautious. Uncertainty over the appropriate or likely venues for AI workloads, and apprehension over the power demands of projected NVIDIA GPU systems, is likely contributing to capacity concerns. Now in its 15 th year, Uptime Institute's annual survey is the most comprehensive and longest-running study of its kind. The findings of this report highlight the practices and experiences of data center owners and operators in the areas of resiliency, sustainability, efficiency, staffing, cloud, and artificial intelligence. Key findings from the 2025 report include: Cost issues remain the top concern for digital infrastructure management teams in 2025 — but worries around forecasting future capacity requirements have grown significantly. Average PUE levels show little change for the sixth consecutive year, with improvements constrained by legacy infrastructure and some climate specific limitations to efficient cooling. Average server rack power densities continue to rise, with greater adoption of racks in the 10–30 kW range. Few facilities exceed 30 kW, and extreme densities are as yet rare. The collection and reporting of key sustainability metrics have not improved in 2025, which is likely due in part to commercial pressures to support AI, and easing regulatory pressure in some regions. Trust in AI for data center operations depends on the use case: most would allow its use for analyzing sensor data and predictive maintenance tasks, but not configuration changes, controlling equipment, or staffing issues. Impactful data center outages are gradually becoming less frequent — but one in ten still cause serious or severe disruption, underscoring the need for continued investment. Enterprises continue to adopt hybrid IT strategies, spanning cloud, colocation on-premises data centers. On-premises data centers remain foundational for those with large, mission critical processing needs, with 45% of IT workloads still residing in corporate facilities. Staffing challenges persist in 2025. Nearly two-thirds of operators report difficulty retaining staff, finding qualified candidates, or both. About the Survey: Uptime conducted this year's Annual Global Data Center Survey online and via email from April to May 2025 and collected responses from more than 800 data center owners and operators. For the third consecutive year, Uptime's survey asked data center operators to identify their management team's top concerns related to digital infrastructure. In 2025, new response options were added to reflect the evolving challenges surrounding power availability, supply chain disruptions, and demand for AI. The survey participants represent a wide range of industry verticals in multiple countries. Nearly half (43%) are located in North America and Europe. Approximately one in five respondents work for professional IT / data center service providers — that is, staff with operational or executive responsibilities for a third-party data center, such as those offering colocation, wholesale, software, or cloud computing services. Nick Cassidy's grandmother witnesses his London E-Prix win, Jaguar driver calls his victory 'unbelievable'

Nick Cassidy and his grandmother (Image credit: Formula E) N ick Cassidy seems to have all the luck on his side as he went on to win his third race of the season, just days after announcing his exit from Jaguar TCS Racing at the end of this season. The New Zealander won the London E-Prix Round 15 race at the ExCeL Arena on Saturday. He himself called the win 'unbelievable,' which was also witnessed by his grandmother at the circuit. Not only that, he also secured a front-row start for the Round 16 race on Sunday. Nick Cassidy on his win at the London E-Prix Nick Cassidy himself was in disbelief over his third win and said, 'It's unbelievable! To win here at home for Jaguar and our team, in front of a lot of our friends, family, and partners who are here today, is incredible.' Talking about their strategy and the car, he said, 'I wasn't the happiest guy this morning, but that was for a reason, and I knew we had good potential in the car. In that race, I was able to show that, which is pretty cool. To be honest, it was a little bit fluid — a huge shoutout to my strategy team. I was really scared about not coming out of the pits after Pit Boost in the lead of that second group, and it was tight, but I was able to hang on there, and that's what made the race. It meant that we could do the Attack Modes later, which was really powerful.' Nick Cassidy's grandma joins him in celebrations Nick Cassidy also shared a video montage of his podium celebration, where he sprayed champagne and celebrated with his team and family. He wrote, 'Parked it in Victory Lane in London! That was incredibly special and will take a while to sink in. One more race today to finish off the season @jaguarracing.' The official social media pages of Formula E also shared a video featuring Cassidy's grandmother, who witnessed his victory at the London E-Prix. It was shared with the caption: 'Seeing your grandson on top of the podium @NickCassidy's Grandma was in London to witness the special moment.' Nick Cassidy takes third spot in Driver Standings Nick Cassidy was able to successfully counter Nyck de Vries' early Attack Mode and late Pit Boost strategy to surpass him with his eyes on the finish line. The Jaguar driver started fifth on the grid and helped the team follow up their double win in Berlin with a third consecutive victory — only the fifth team in Formula E history to achieve that feat.
