Koenigsegg Is Taking Hypercars To A Whole New Level Tomorrow
Koenigsegg Is Taking Hypercars To A Whole New Level Tomorrow originally appeared on Autoblog. As enthusiasts of high-performance cars, we're really being spoiled lately. HWA is taking its epic 190E restomod to the track, the people at Toyota are working on a new Lexus supercar, and the astonishing new Corvette ZR1 family has been making waves everywhere. If none of those raise your pulse, perhaps this will: Koenigsegg has posted a series of clips that tease a new hypercar (or megacar, in Koenigsegg parlance). The Swedish purveyor of speed hasn't said much, though. The most recent of three teaser posts has the caption "Perfection is a moving target," and the one before that says Koenigsegg is "crafting a legend." Happily, the first post tells us when we'll know more: 25 June 2025. That's tomorrow... The post above gives us a glimpse of the front end of the car, with the Koenigsegg badge at the bottom of the frame and a NACA duct directly above it. Behind that, exposed carbon fiber appears to indicate an aero bridge on the clamshell, likely evacuating air that enters at the lower front bumper like the Ferrari S-duct, or, closer to home, Koenigsegg's own Gemera four-seater. The second post in the trilogy also calls to mind past Koenigsegg designs, revealing a rear end with a massive wing that seems not dissimilar to that of the track-focused Jesko Absolut. However, in this application, there's a vertically oriented central stop light giving strong motorsport vibes. Finally, the most recent post seems to show more aerodynamic devices, including vents in the front wheel arches that likely help smooth airflow running along the sides of the car. So what are we looking at here? Well, it's highly unlikely that Koenigsegg would be building a hardcore version of the Gemera, and the imagery appears to show something very sleek with a small cockpit, so it's certainly a two-seater. The easiest guess to make is that this is a more hardcore, more focused, potentially track-only version of the Jesko. Could this be a Nürburgring record chaser or a hint at an entry into motorsports? Koenigsegg hasn't had the greatest luck at the Nürburgring, with a few crashes marring its early visits to the Green Hell, and the last time it tried to enter endurance racing, the rules changed before the CCGT could compete. When asked by Top Gear last year if he would ever consider dipping another toe into the World Endurance Championship, company founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg bemoaned the many hoops a car must jump through to meet Balance of Performance regulations, arguing that the current regulations deprive automakers of the ability to showcase their unique individual we doubt that this will be a track-only special, though the aero devices indicate it will be one of the most hardcore 'Seggs yet. Other possibilities include that it may be an all-new model or even a hardcore take on the CC850, but that sort of thing is generally revealed at Monterey Car Week. Our best guess is that this is a one-off Jesko Absolut turned up to 11 for a single wealthy commissioner, but the caption "perfection is a moving target" could easily apply to any of the Swedish company's creations. Whatever the facts, we'll bring them to you as soon as possible tomorrow. A 190E Evo II will race in the 2026 Nürburgring 24hrs, and Senna would be pleased
A 190E Evo II will race in the 2026 Nürburgring 24hrs, and Senna would be pleased HWA's stunning EVO will race in the 2026 Nürburgring 24hr race. Woohoo! Skip 13 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 13 Ayrton would be happy. HWA – builders of the stunning Mercedes-based EVO – has revealed its intention to race in next year's Nürburgring 24hr race, sending a 190E back in time. For it was Senna's heroics in the 1984 one-make race at the 'Ring that helped cement his legend. Now, HWA is making its street-legal EVO resto very much track-legal, and intends to absolutely send it. Advertisement - Page continues below 'Motorsport is in our DNA, and consequently in that of the HWA EVO,' said HWA boss Martin Marx. HWA hasn't specified what's in the 'Ring-bound EVO's DNA, mind, saying only that a pair of them will contest the special vehicles 'SP-X' class, 'with appropriate modifications in performance, weight and safety systems'. Probably an opportune moment to pick over the street-car's spec. There's a dry-sumped Mercedes 3.0-litre V6 positioned just behind the front axle (likely the 24v M276), here turbocharged to over 450bhp. In a car that weighs 1,350kg – what the Evo II weighed in its 90s heyday. There are big six-piston brakes, DTM-spec suspension (the original Evo II finally won a DTM title in 1992 after years of being trounced by that pesky E30), and – literally – the two biggest and most important 190 Things: fat arches and a monster rear wing. Advertisement - Page continues below Now the road car's pretty much done, hotshoes Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig will help develop the race car ahead of next year's entry. There'll be demonstration runs of roadgoing prototypes at this weekend's N24, and we'll get further details in due course. Reckon HWA should organise another Nürburgring GP with a fleet of these EVOs? It'd make Ayrton happy… 13 minutes 34 seconds Top Gear Newsletter Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. How a loaner car led to Azril's classic Mercedes collection
Published on: Monday, May 19, 2025 Published on: Mon, May 19, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: Within just five years of falling in love with Mercedes cars, Mohd Azril Bahaman now has 10 luxury classic vehicles in his collection. (Mohd Azril Bahaman pic) Kuala Lumpur: Mohd Azril Bahaman's passion for classic cars, specifically those of the German brand Mercedes Benz, began by chance when his neighbour let him borrow a vintage model after his own car broke down. This opened a new chapter for the 45-year-old, who now proudly owns 10 luxury classic cars – a dream he has realised within five years of falling in love with the brand. Advertisement His collection includes editions such as the 1982 Mercedes C123 Coupe, 1987 190E, 1982 C126 Coupe, 1985 S123 Wagon, and 1990 S124 Wagon, as well as modern models like the 2010 W204 – valued cumulatively at about RM900,000. 'In 2020, my Audi broke down, so my neighbour offered to lend me his old Mercedes while my car was being repaired. Once I drove it, I instantly fell in love. It felt different – soft and comfortable despite being an older model,' Azril, a business consultant, recalled. 'One of my favourite models in my collection is the W123 Wagon, which was produced between 1975 and 1986. Everything in that car is original, from the carpet and seats to the dashboard… it still has the factory scent even after nearly 40 years.' He admits to having faced many challenges while building his collection, including being scammed and having to deal with the high costs involved. But this hasn't deterred him or diminished his passion for classic cars. Advertisement Azril, who hails from Maran, Pahang, said the first classic car he owned was a 1987 Mercedes 190E. Since then, a wide network within the community of Mercedes enthusiasts has helped him acquire his dream vehicles at much lower prices. Still, certain cars, especially two-door models, tend to be more expensive and harder to negotiate for than four-door versions, owing to their limited production and rarity in the market. Azril also shared that not every car he buys is in good condition: some require costly restoration work before they can regain their value in the market. Nevertheless, he believes it is worth it. 'Investing in classic cars is becoming more popular because their value increases over time, unlike regular cars that depreciate. For example, a Mercedes W123 Coupe used to cost RM70,000, but can now fetch RM200,000. 'Rare models like the Pagoda can even reach over RM1 million,' he noted. Azril recalled an incident when he was scammed by a workshop owner who charged him RM5,000 for repairs that actually only cost around RM150. This became a turning point for the father of two, pushing him to deepen his knowledge about Mercedes cars through enthusiast communities. He now shares his knowledge about these luxury vehicles, including maintenance and care tips, on social media. To date, he has amassed over 335,000 followers via his 'Klasik Mercedes Malaysia' Facebook and TikTok accounts. 'I'm not running a business – I just enjoy sharing information about classic cars,' Azril explained, adding that he has also thus far listed 120 reliable classic-Mercedes workshops across Malaysia to help users access repair and maintenance services. On the topic of maintenance, he pointed out that spare parts for Mercedes models from the 1980s onwards are still widely available in Malaysia, while parts for older models are harder to find and often require special sourcing, including from overseas. As for the future, Azril dreams of opening a gallery or café that includes a Mercedes exhibition space, where enthusiasts can gather and share their experiences about these cars.
