LG's Lightweight Gram Pro 16 Laptop Still Needs Some Work
Last year's LG Gram Pro 17 was a classic study in laptop compromise. Incredibly thin and light, it was a veritable marvel of engineering that weighed in at half the heft of a typical 17-inch notebook. On the other hand, it was an unstable performance dud that ran so hot it nearly burnt the hair off my legs. The compromise scales ultimately tipped against the Gram Pro in 2024, but I'll give credit to LG for staying the course and continuing to iterate on this design, and fixing many of the flaws I remarked on previously. Faster, Thinner, Cooler Photograph: Chris Null Summer 2025 sees the arrival of a new, 16-inch version of the LG Gram Pro. The slightly smaller laptop is a bit heavier than the old Pro 17 by a fraction of an ounce (now 2.9 pounds) but is 3 millimeters thinner with a girth of just 15 mm. As the name implies, it has a smaller touchscreen, at 16 inches diagonally instead of 17, featuring a resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels. It no longer has an OLED panel, but it boasts an impressive 144-Hz refresh rate. While heavier than the old LG Gram Pro 17, it's still up to a pound lighter than a typical 16-inch laptop. The new system is designed as a 2-in-1, with a hinge that allows the LCD to fold flat against the back of the laptop so it can be used as a tablet. An active stylus is included in the box. The stylus can dock magnetically against the right side of the laptop and charge without a cable while it's resting there, too. Performance is the first place where things have picked up. While the unit I received for review is LG's lowest-end configuration, featuring an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H CPU, 16 GB of RAM, 1 terabyte of storage, and integrated graphics, it ran rings around the older Gram Pro 17 and handily outpaced recent vintage systems from other manufacturers on common tasks. £16 handheld fan that comes with a torch and powerbank is a heatwave must-have
'This fan is amazing. Such a relatively small product (fits in your pocket or bag) but is so powerful!' Scotland is set to be hit with its first full heatwave of the year, with temperatures to soar past 30C this weekend, according to the Met Office. After a couple of mini-heatwaves in recent months, we are now a bit more knowledgeable on what essential items we should be carrying around with us. For those who are working in an office, travelling or are attending outdoor festivals such as TRNSMT over the coming days, a handheld fan is a must-have item to have in your bag or pocket. Despite its compact size, these nifty machines can provide a strong airflow that can cool you down in an instant. One popular handheld fan selling on Amazon, that comes with a cute bear design, is the JISULIFE Handheld Fan with a 4500mAh Powerbank. Normally retailing for £19.99, shoppers can now get their hands on this handy fan for only £15.99 in the Prime Day sale. Shoppers can choose between seven colours, including black, green, pink and purple, but prices do slightly vary up to £19.19. With a max runtime of 46 hours when used on speed one, this handheld fan will keep you cool throughout the day. Boasting three wind speeds, this fan features enlarged blades that increases the wind speed by 30 per cent compared to the brand's older model. In order to seamlessly fit into your bag or pocket without taking up too much space, this fan features a folding design to make it even more compact. Now this isn't just your ordinary fan, this device comes with the added bonus of featuring a flashlight and turning into a power bank when in an emergency. This fan is also rechargeable for added ease of use and can be used hands free when placed on a table and folded. JISULIFE Handheld Fan with 4500mAh Powerbank £19.99 £15.99 Amazon Buy Now Product Description Another popular fan on Amazon is the Diveblues iTurbo High-Speed Portable Handheld Turbo Fan. Retailing for £18.99, this device only weighs 113g and boasts a five-speed turbo wind and a LED display so users can check the settings at a quick glance. Alternatively, Debenhams has dropped the price of the Dyzi 2-in-1 Portable Travel Mini Handheld Desk Table Fan. Normally retailing for £19.99, shoppers can now grab this fan in either purple, pink, white or blue for £11.99. With a LED display, shoppers can see how much battery the fan has left. Back to the JISULIFE Handheld Fan, it currently has a 4.6 star rating from Amazon shoppers, with over 2,000 people buying the device in the last 30 days. Many shoppers were impressed by the powerful airflow this fan provides despite its compact size. One happy shopper said: "Love this little fan - it's got three speeds and a torch and is an emergency power bank. Well impressed with the features and fits nicely into my handbag. Quite sturdy too. One button controls the fan and the torch and it provides a really strong fan for its size. Good value for money." With another adding: "Absolutely great fan... I took it on holiday with me and I certainly needed it. Loved the top speed on the fan, it cooled me down really quickly. "Even better, I've come home and it's hot here so have been using it here too. Easy to charge and just a touch of the button to make it work. Showed a colleague and sent her the link so she is going to get one." However, a few shoppers grumbled over how the device struggled to sit on a flat surface. One person wrote: "Creates a great cool flow of air. The con is that you struggle to get it to sit on a flat surface. It topples easily and when in the L position the on off button is awkward to reach. It's fine if hand held." With another agreeing: "The only slight negative is that it is a little unstable when folded and stood on a table. Overall, I like it and would buy again." On the flip side, a top reviewer said: "This fan is amazing. Such a relatively small product (fits in your pocket or bag) but is so powerful! 3 speeds, but even speed 1 is strong! I use it for moving between meetings. It's also surprisingly quiet and doesn't interrupt or distract in meetings. AND it's a mega powerful torch AND power bank! Not used the power bank function yet." With a sixth customer praising: "For the price this fan really is exceptional. Good range if fans speeds, with the highest being surprisingly powerful. Can be handheld or used stand alone on its own folding handle. Very lightweight and compact and the battery does last absolutely ages - it can easily run at a bedside all night long." B&M is selling a must-have summer garden gadget that repels pests – it's £17 less than a similar B&Q buy
NOTHING ruins a relaxing summer day soaking up the sun like insects and flies. A budget-friendly B&M buy can help keep pests away from your home and garden in the warm weather. 3 So whether you're tanning or enjoying a barbeque al fresco, this item will give you peace. You won't have to worry about bug bites or flies landing on your tasty snacks. The 2-in-1 Solar Buzzkill Stick-on Indoor and Outdoor Bug Zapper is available for just £8 from B&M. Designed to "keep those bugs at bay", the gadget is a hands-off solution to your pest problem. Since it uses solar energy to work, you don't even need to worry about changing the batteries. All it requires is sunlight to work, so while you enjoy the nice weather this handy buy will be working to deter unwanted garden guests. It has a UV light to attract any flying bugs or insects before zapping them. Simply stick the adhesive back of the product to your desired surface and enjoy your day. A similar item is available from B&Q, but with a significantly higher price tag. The Easylife 24/7 Solar Pest Repeller is currently listed for £24.99 on the store's website. I tried 'magic' Lidl garden hose - you need to get it, it's perfect for summer According to manufacturers, the product is activated by movement within a 110 degree range. The buy is designed specifically to "scare away unwelcome intruders with a powerful blast of harmless ultra-sound and a piercing bright flashing LED light". However, unlike the B&M item, this is not recommended for homes with pets. It has been known to deter dogs or cats, as well as foxes, squirrels, rabbits, rats, and birds. The ultrasonic pest repeller includes an adjustable setting to target either small or large animals, and a dial to adjust the frequency setting. Tips for keeping pests from your garden Plant companion plants such as peppermint to repel rats. Place Garden Netting Pest Barrier, over your flowerbeds. Fill open-top containers with beer and place in soil to repel slugs. Spray plants with Neem Oil, to repel ants, flies, and spiders. Dust your flowerbeds with Diatomaceous Earth. Mix 1 tablespoon dish soap, 10 drops peppermint oil, and 4 cups water and spray on flowerbeds. Place eggshells around your plants to protect from slugs and snails. It also has a flashing LED light and is recharged for free through its solar panel. And for less sunny days, it can be hooked to your mains through its USB port. You have the option to either wall mount or stake the pest repeller into the ground. And B&M shoppers can pick up a £2 gardening gadget that transforms your patio. The bargain retailer is also selling a Dyson dupe for £310 less than the real thing.
