Principal allegedly shielded accused sex pest teacher, court reveals

Image: Supplied The principal of Harvester Primary School is under investigation after she allegedly obstructed and defeated the ends of justice following the arrest of a former teacher for sexual grooming of a child and exposing a child to explicit material. Police spokesperson, FC van Wyk, said: 'This office can confirm that a criminal case docket is being investigated in which the school principal is the subject. The charges as outlined by the Directorate of Public Prosecution are obstructing and defeating the ends of justice and contravention of Section 54 of Sexual Offences Act 32 of 2007 - failing to report that a child is a victim of sexual offence.' The investigation follows after the 35-year-old former Grade R teacher was caught after she allegedly sent an explicit video of herself to a Grade 7 learner. She is currently appearing in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court on charges of sexual grooming of a child and exposing a child to explicit material. The court previously heard a testimony from the investigating officer in the case, Warrant Officer Roland Peters, who said the case was reported to Lentegeur police station on June 9. The court heard that he went to the school on June 10, when the principal allegedly said she was made aware of the allegations by a concerned parent of an explicit dirty video sent by the teacher on June 4. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading Peters said the principal went to the house of the victim on June 6 to collect the cellphone to gather evidence on the allegations, however, the court heard that she did not report the matter to SAPS but rather the Western Cape Education Department (WCED). Peters said she told him she felt it was not her responsibility to report it to the police as she had already informed the WCED. The court heard that on June 12, Peters returned to the school and informed the principal that they were going to arrest the teacher; however, she informed them that the teacher was doing administration work at the WCED regional offices. She then informed police officials to meet her at the WCED regional offices. Peters said: 'We waited for a half an hour and the principal did not arrive. We then entered the building and we spoke to the manager who informed us that he had just returned back from dropping off the [teacher] at a family member's house in Strandfontein. He was given information by the principal to remove [the teacher] from the premises as there was protest action… From there we proceeded to the Strandfontein address, but did not find the teacher.' The court heard that police officials were given an address in Athlone where they found the accused at her home and arrested her. Gardaí arrest woman (40s) as part of Stephen O'Meara murder investigation

Two men have been convicted for offences relating to this murder, but gardaí issued a fresh appeal in 2023 as they believed there may have been others involved in his killing. In 2012, Michael Dickenson of Darragh Park, Wicklow town, was jailed for life after being convicted of Stephen's murder. In 2013, Clement Byrne of Clonattin Village, Gorey, Co Wexford was sentenced to eight-years imprisonment for his role in Stephen's death. Gardaí report that on August 6, 2009, at approximately 6pm, Stephen left his home at Rose Hill, Wicklow town, and walked down through different walkways along the back of the town to Marlton road, where he was collected by a silver Nissan Pulsar car and driven through Redcross to Ballydonnell Wood. At the woods, gardaí believe there was a group of suspects present. Stephen was then fatally injured, shot and buried in a shallow grave at the woods. On August 8, 2009, Stephen was reported missing to gardaí by his partner. Gardaí began a missing person investigation, later upgraded to murder, which resulted in the two individuals being convicted for offences relating to the murder. Gardaí have continued their investigation since. In 2023, Crimecall interviewed Stephen's parents John and Veronica who appealed for the public to assist with the garda investigation into their son's death and to help them find closure. Man (60s) arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of Charles Dooher
It follows the arrest of a woman by Gardai earlier this week. A 60 year old man has been arrested in Derry on suspicion of the attempted murder of Donegal man Charles Dooher. The man was arrested by the PSNI on Friday. A PSNI spokesperson confirmed "Detectives assisting colleagues from An Garda Síochána with the investigation into the attempted murder of a man in Lifford, Country Donegal, have made an arrest. The woman in her 50s was arrested earlier this week and released yesterday after being questioned at a Garda station in West Donegal. A file on the arrest is to be compiled and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions. "She has since been released and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions." Charles Dooher, 26, suffered life-changing injuries when he was set upon by five masked men at his home on the Conneyburrow Road in Lifford on January 20th last. The victim and his father, Charles Snr, were repeatedly beaten by a gang at their home at 10am on January 20th last. Charles Dooher senior, who is in his 60s, received treatment for less serious injuries at Letterkenny University Hospital. However, Charles Dooher Jnr was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and he was treated in intensive care for several weeks. The young farmer had a number of operations and a protective plate fitted to his head. His family, as well as his girlfriend Charlotte Gallen, kept a bedside vigil for Charles Jnr praying for hime to recover. Their prayers were answered and Charles managed to survive and recently visited his beloved local GAA club, Naomh Padraig Leifear, to watch his teammates play. Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for any information or witnesses related to this incident. Those with camera footage, including dash-cam footage, from the Coneyburrow Road in Lifford between 10am and 11am on January 20, are urged to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. They are particularly anxious to speak to any persons who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) of a silver/grey Peugeot 3008 (2009-2013 model) in the Coneyburrow Road area of Lifford between 10am and 11am on January 20, to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. Woman arrested in probe into attempted murder of young Donegal man Charles Dooher
Charles Dooher (26) was assaulted at his home on the Conneyburrow Road, Lifford, on Monday, January 20, at around 10am. Gardaí have confirmed a woman has been arrested in connection with the investigation. The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on Sunday, July 6, 2025 and was questioned by gardaí. A Garda spokesperson said: 'Gardaí arrested a woman in connection with the investigation into an attempted murder in Lifford, Co Donegal, on 20th January, 2025. 'The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested on Sunday, 6th July, 2025 and detained at a Garda Station in the North West under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, 2007. "She has since been released and a file will be prepared for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. 'Investigations are ongoing.' Charles Dooher was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast and he was treated in intensive care, fighting for his life. His family and friends maintained a bedside vigil for the young farmer while he was in hospital. Charles has since undergone surgery and has had a protective plate fitted to his head. Charles' father, Charles Dooher senior, who is aged in his 60s, was also injured in the attack and received treatment for less serious injuries at Letterkenny University Hospital. Earlier this year, the PSNI arrested two adult males in connection with the investigation but they were subsequently released with enquiries ongoing. Gardaí continue to appeal to the public for any information or witnesses related to this incident. Those with camera footage, including dash-cam footage, from the Coneyburrow Road in Lifford between 10am and 11am are urged to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
