Fremantle Dockers forward Michael Walters retires from AFL after battling knee injury
Fremantle Dockers forward Michael Walters has announced his retirement from the AFL after a career lasting 239 games.
Walters has been battling a knee injury this year that has prevented him from playing for the Dockers so far this season.
The veteran kicked 365 goals for Fremantle, and played in the club's only grand final appearance in 2013.
In a statement, Walters said he was at peace with the decision.
"I have been working my backside off to try and get back to play some form of footy and while mentally I am still committed, unfortunately my body wouldn't allow me to continue playing," he said.
"I never left a stone unturned, I tried to return and play again at the top level and it just didn't work out."
Walters was taken with pick 53 in the 2008 draft.
