20th Century Studios Reboots 'Night at the Museum' With 'Die Hart' Writer

20th Century Studios and Shawn Levy's ( Deadpool & Wolverine ) production studio, 21 Laps Entertainment, are revisiting the Night at the Museum franchise, with writer Tripper Clancy ( Die Hart, Stuber ) on board to pen the reboot's script. As announced via Deadline, the reboot is said to feature a new story set at the museum and will introduce never-before-seen characters, although specific plot details are still under wraps. No further details on the film's cast or release window have been announced. Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014) The original film franchise began with 2006's Night at the Museum , which starred Ben Stiller ( Zoolander ) as Larry Daley, an overnight security guard at the Natural History Museum, and followed the mystery of an ancient Egyptian tablet that brought the museum's exhibits to life at night. The film spawned two sequels, 2009's Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and 2014's Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb , and featured recurring stars Rami Malek ( Mr. Robot ) as Ahkmenrah, Owen Wilson ( Cars ) as Jedediah, and the late Robin Williams ( Jumanji ) as Theodore Roosevelt. The original trilogy was directed by Levy, with each film being a hit at the global box office upon release, garnering a combined total of 1.35 billion worldwide. In 2022, the franchise received an animated spin-off title, Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again , which was directed by Matt Danner ( Legend of the Three Caballeros ) and produced by Levy. Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again (2022) The reboot will be written by Clancy, who is best known for penning each season of the 2020 comedy series Die Hart , which starred comedian Kevin Hart as himself, a Hollywood actor who wishes to become an action hero. He also wrote the 2019 buddy cop action comedy film Stuber , which followed a mild-mannered Uber driver named Stu (Kumail Nanjiani) who picks up a cop named Vic Manning (Dave Bautista), who's on the trail of the killer. Kevin is a reformed PC Master Race gamer with a penchant for franchise 'duds' like Darksiders III and Dead Space 3 . He has made it his life-long mission to play every single major game release – lest his wallet dies trying.

Night at the Museum is being reimagined

Night at the Museum is being reimagined with a new cast and tale. 20th Century Studios are making a new movie based on the comedy series, which sees artefacts come alive in the museum, with 21 Laps Entertainment hiring Stuber scribe Tripper Clancy to write the script. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce for 21 Laps, with Emily Morris overseeing the flick, Deadline reports. The first three films were led by Ben Stiller, who starred as Larry Daley, a night guard who discovers the museum exhibits come to life after dark. The first film, Night at the Museum, was released in 2006, and grossed $574.5 million. The late Robin Williams played Theodore Roosevelt, the wax sculpture of the 26th President of the United States dressed in his Rough Rider uniform, who befriends and mentors Larry. The stellar cast also included Owen Wilson, Ricky Gervais, Mickey Rooney, Brad Garrett, Dick Van Dyke and Rami Malek. Stiller returned for 2009's Battle of the Smithsonian and 2014's Secret of the Tomb. An animated sequel, Kahmunrah Rises Again, was released in 2022. The film follows Nick Daley, the son of Larry Daley, as he becomes a night guard at the Museum of Natural History. The voice cast included Joshua Bassett, Jamie Demetriou, Gillian Jacobs and Zachary Levi. Stiller, 59, is fond of the franchise and previously admitted the first film "appealed to the kid in me". He told "What happens when the museum closes at night? What would happen if everything came to life? I thought that the answers would be a really cool movie to see."
