UBA girls send SNG packing to enter quarterfinals of junior dist basketball meet

Nagpur: Ridima Banode (14) and Srushti Bhagat (8) did the bulk of the scoring as United Basketball Academy (UBA) edged out Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG) 38-33 to enter the quarterfinals of the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial inter-club junior district basketball championship at Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) Shankar Nagar court on Monday. With this five-point defeat, the SNG girls crashed out of the U18 selection tournament organised by the Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA). In an exciting league round game, UBA took an early lead, but SNG fought their way back to take a four-point advantage at the breather. After the break, UBA won the third quarter by four points to bring parity. In the last period, UBA defended well and defeated SNG 10-5 to register an emphatic five-point victory. The quarter-wise progress in UBA's favour read 14-11, 7-14, 7-3, 10-5. In the boys' section, hosts DKM-A outclassed Sanskar Krida Mandal (SKM) 52-18 to emerge as the pool A toppers and qualify for the quarterfinals. For the winners, Yash Waghade (12) and Om Raut (9) played well. Nagpur: Neharika Deoghare (10) and Unnati Kadwekar (9) did all the scoring as Spartan stunned Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG) 31-29 in a low-scoring thriller to enter the quarterfinals of the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial inter-club junior district basketball championship at Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) Shankar Nagar court on Sunday. In an exciting league round game, Spartan took a handy four-point lead at the breather after winning the first quarter 8-4 as both teams netted identical five points. After the change of ends, SNG fought back to clinch the third quarter 7-2 and regain the advantage. In the last quarter, both teams scored heavily, but Spartan defended well in the crucial moments to win the same 16-13 and register an emphatic two-point triumph. Earlier in the boys section, Hanuman Nagar Krida Mandal (HKM) and Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) won both their respective league round games to emerge as pool toppers to qualify for the quarterfinals. Nagpur: Pakhi Lonkar (14) and Ashlesha Dabhadkar (9) did the bulk of the scoring as Nagpur Amateur Sports Association (NASA) stunned Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh (NBYS) 43-35 in the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial inter-club junior district basketball championship at Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) Shankar Nagar court on Saturday. After both teams scored 13 points each in the first quarter, NASA took a marginal lead by winning the second period 7-6. The change of ends shifted the proceedings in NASA's favour as they outplayed NBYS 15-4 in the third quarter to stretch their advantage further to 12 points. In the last period, NBYS tried their best but fell short by eight points. For NBYS, Nishita Bakre (17) and Mrunmayee Sathe (7) played well. Earlier, Saraswati Kanya Sangh (SKS) girls made light work of hosts DKM-B 30-5, and Spartan girls edged out United Basketball Academy (UBA) 33-28. For the winners, Unnati Kadwekar and Mitali Kohale netted identical eight points. For UBA, Samija Korde (8) and Prutha Kaware (7) did well. 1 2 Nagpur: Dheer Agrawal and Ishan Gour did all the scoring as Nagpur Amateur Sports Association ( NASA ) rallied splendidly to get the better of Pawanbhoomi Krida Mandal (PKM) 32-27 in the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial inter-club junior district basketball championship at the Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) court in Shankar Nagar on Wednesday. In a low-scoring game, NASA cagers took time to settle into their groove and lost the first quarter 3-8. With a defensive approach, they regained the momentum in the second quarter to not only level the scores but took a two-point halftime lead. After the lemon break, PKM fought back and brought the scores at par by winning the third period 10-8. NASA cagers kept their cool in the last period and chipped in with crucial baskets to win the same 12-7 and seal the fate of PKM by five points. While Dheer fired a game-high 18 points, Ishan contributed 10. In a lop-sided contest, SHivaji Nagar Gymkhana (SNG) kick started with a facile 48-11 win over hosts DKM-B. In the girls section, Nutan Bharat Yuwak Sangh drubbed PBG 53-27. Nagpur: Neil Dharghawe, Atharva Dhore, Meehira Dhote, and Palak Panchbudhe scored baskets from all corners of the Dharampeth Krida Mandal's (DKM) Shankar Nagar court to guide their teams to register easy wins on Day 3 of the 25th Prakash Rajurkar Memorial inter-club junior district basketball championship. Tuesday turned out to be a day for hosts DKM as both their boys' and girls' teams won their respective league round games. Palak fired a tournament-high 30 points in Gurudeo Nagar Krida Mandal's (GKM) winning start. In the boys' section, DKM skipper Neil (16) and shooting guard Atharva (13) did the bulk of the scoring as the home team outclassed United Basketball Academy (UBA) 55-16. In the girls' section, DKM defeated Phoenix by 19 points (32-13) with Meehira (14) and Anandi Sonewane (6) utilising their home conditions well. For Phoenix, Sarakshi Ayalwar scored seven points. In another girls' game, GKM rode on the heroics of Palak for a facile 43-25 win over Nikalas Sports and Cultural Academy (NSCA). RESULTS BOYS: DKM-A (Neil Dharghawe 16, Atharva Dhore 13) beat UBA (Dipendra Rathod) 55-16 (18-0, 12-8, 15-4, 10-4); GIRLS: DKM-A (Meehira Dhote 14, Anandi Sonewane 6) beat Phoenix (Sarakshi Ayalwar 7) 32-13 (14-6, 10-4, 6-2, 2-1); GKM (Palak Panchbudhe 30) beat NSCA (Anvi Ganar 10) 43-25 (8-8, 16-8, 11-7, 8-2).
