Phulpur police arrest 2 cattle smugglers after encounter in Varanasi

VARANASI: The Phulpur police on Monday arrested two members of an inter-state gang of cattle smugglers in an encounter near Kaitholi turn. One of the smugglers sustained a bullet injury in his leg during the exchange of fire. The police seized an illegal firearm, cartridges, two mobile phones, a pickup van, and a motorcycle. According to reports, while the Phulpur police, led by Police Inspector-in-Charge Praveen Kumar Singh, were patrolling the area to ensure the safe conduct of the Kanwar Yatra and Shrawan Mela, an informant reported two suspicious individuals on a motorcycle near Kaitholi turn, carrying illegal weapons. The police arrived at the scene. Upon seeing the police, the criminals attempted to flee towards Jaunpur via the highway. The police followed and surrounded them. During a check near Nathipur intersection, they fell off their motorcycle. One of them fired at the police. The police responded in self-defence, injuring one of them in the right leg. His accomplice, Shivpujan Gupta of Chandauli district, was arrested at the scene. During interrogation, Ajay revealed that the motorcycle belonged to his friend Sonu, which he borrowed. He disclosed that Govind Singh, a resident of Darauli Durgawati in Kaimur police station area of Bhabua district (Bihar), informed him over the phone about a pickup vehicle used for cow smuggling, hidden in Kuwar Bazaar in Phulpur police station area. He was instructed to relocate the vehicle to Ramnagar Tengra turn using the GPS location provided. Ajay, along with his accomplice Shivpujan, planned to retrieve the vehicle when the police surrounded them. Shivpujan admitted to accompanying Ajay. Both of them are linked to an active cow smuggling gang. Recently, an inter-state gang led by Govind Singh was exposed during an encounter with cow smugglers in the Badagaon police station area. Govind organises cow smuggling across districts like Varanasi, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, and Chandauli. The two are also associated with this gang. Ajay has a total of eight criminal cases registered against him in various police stations. A case has been registered against the arrested criminals under sections 109(1) BNS, 3/25/27 Arms Act, and 207 MV Act. Further legal proceedings are underway.

New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): During the early hours of Saturday, two members of the Himanshu Bhau gang were apprehended at the Narela Industrial area police station, Outer North, Delhi, after a brief exchange of fire, as per a release. The two accused, who were residents of Rohtak, Haryana, have been identified as 24-year-old Mohit Vashisht and 21-year-old Mohit Malik. During the apprehension, the accused on the bike were asked to stop, but they fired at the Police team. In self-defence, the police team also fired, and both accused sustained bullet injuries in their legs and were sent to the hospital for treatment. They were wanted in Case FIR No.234/25 under section 103 (1)/3(5) BNS (Bharatiya Nyay Samhita) r.w. 25/27 Arms Act, dated June 1, at the Shivaji Colony police station in Rohtak, Haryana. On June 6, on the instructions of Himanshu Bhau, they murdered one Anil, the paternal uncle of Ankit, who had murdered a cousin of Himanshu, Rohit alias Bajrang and his uncle, in 2022. One Pistol, one Revolver, four live cartridges, and a stolen motorcycle have been recovered from their possession. (ANI)

Garhwa: Police have arrested four criminals with arms and ammunition in connection with firing on a hotel owner Sonu Kumar alias Sunny in which no any casualty was reported, police said on Saturday. The arrested criminals included Sushil Kumar Tiwari alias Chhotu Tiwari, his associates Gyan Prakash Tiwari alias Ranjan Tiwari, Ravi Chandravanshi and Ritesh Ranjan alias Bampi Patwa. While the arrest of fifth criminal Deepak Tiwari is yet to be arrested. Police have also recovered from them a pistol, a loaded country made katta, some live cartridges and two motor cycles. Garhwa SP, Deepak Kumar Pandey on Saturday told media persons that the criminals had fired on Sonu Kumar owner of Virat Hotel on May 15 around 11 pm. On the following day Sonu filed a written complaint with the police station stating that Chhotu Tiwari and his associates had demanded Rs 50,000 extortion. "A case was registered in this connection on May 16 under section 308 (4)/109 (1)/3 (5) of BNS and 27 Arms Act," he said. He added, "We received input that the criminals had approached Sonu to buy wine which priced at Rs 600. But the criminals paid Rs 560 through PhonePe. The petty amount of only Rs 40 laid to a brawl between Sonu Kumar and Chhotu Tiwari while Chhotu Tiwari fired on Sonu Kumar. Acting on a tip of we formed a team led by SDPO, Neeraj Kumar. The team conducted a raid and arrested the four criminals on Friday night." Chhotu has criminal history with four cases against him Garhwa police station.

New Delhi [India], May 11 (ANI): Delhi Police arrested two persons after an intense shootout on Rao Tula Ram Marg (RTR Marg) in RK Puram in the national capital. The accused are history-sheeters with a combined record of over 50 criminal cases, including murder, armed robbery, snatching, and multiple shootouts with police across Delhi, said the police. The accused have been identified as Suresh alias Subhash (33) and Manish alias Mogli (33). According to the police, on the intervening night of May 8-9, at around 1:10 AM, a police patrolling team spotted two suspicious individuals sitting near a parked motorcycle on the service road of RTR Marg. When officers approached them for questioning, the duo opened fire in a bid to escape. The bullets narrowly missed the police team, who retaliated with warning shots before engaging in self-defence firing, injuring *Suresh in the leg. His accomplice, Manish, was overpowered and arrested unharmed. The police team has recovered from them two 7.65 mm pistols (with four live and three spent cartridges), a stolen motorcycle used in recent crimes, and forged number plates. During interrogation, the duo confessed to snatching a gold chain from Vivekanand Market on May 4 and admitted involvement in multiple thefts and robberies across Delhi, said the police. A case under Sections 109/221/132/3(5) of BNS and 25/27 Arms Act has been registered at RK Puram Police Station. Earlier on May 9, Delhi Police Foreigners Cell, North-West District, apprehended three alleged illegal Bangladeshi migrants after a sustained and meticulous surveillance operation. Four smart mobile phones installed with the banned IMO app, which were being used to communicate with their families in Bangladesh, were recovered from their possession. A special drive titled 'Operation Face Wash' is currently being conducted in the district to identify and take action against illegal Bangladeshi migrants. In May 2025, specific intelligence was received regarding the presence of illegal Bangladeshi nationals disguising themselves as transgender and engaging in begging and other activities at traffic signals to avoid suspicion. After some days of sustained manual and technical surveillance, credible information was received that three such individuals were present near Azadpur New Sabzi Mandi. Acting swiftly, the team laid a trap early in the morning, and all three suspects were apprehended, said the police. (ANI)
