Mother of murdered six-year-old attempts suicide amid ongoing investigation

JOHOR BARU: The mother of six-year-old A. Tishant, whose tragic death shocked the nation, is believed to have attempted suicide due to grief and trauma over the incident. Johor women, family and community development committee chairman Khairin Nisa Ismail confirmed the matter when contacted on Wednesday (July 30). "Yes, yesterday (July 29) we sent officers from the state Welfare Department to offer assistance to the victim's family, but they declined the support. "We were also informed that Tishant's mother had tried to take her own life and was sent to a hospital for treatment," she said. Khairin Nisa added that her office is currently waiting for the hospital's medical report before providing psychological and other forms of support to the grieving family. Tishant was reported missing on July 24 in Taman Bukit Indah, Iskandar Puteri. His father was subsequently detained by police to assist in the investigation. Four days later, the boy's body was discovered buried in Rompin, Jempol. On Tuesday (July 29), strangulation was identified as the cause of death of the child whose body was found buried in Rompin. Negri Sembilan police chief Dep Comm Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the post-mortem examination was conducted at Rembau Hospital. "The cause of death is due to strangulation using cable ties. The medical team estimates that the victim died between 9am and 11am on July 23," he said. DCP Ahmad Dzaffir stated that the case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder as well as under the Child Act 2001. Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan had said the boy's father had lodged a report on the child's disappearance on July 24, claiming that his son went missing near a coffee shop in Taman Bukit Indah. The father was later arrested as a suspect. Jempol police chief Supt Norhisham Mustapar said police seized a hoe believed to have been used to bury the body. The body was found buried near a railway line, far from residential areas. Supt Norhisham said the suspect remains in the custody of Johor police under remand until July 31. "We will question him further once the suspect is brought back here," he said.

'How could anyone do this to Tishant'

JOHOR BARU: A sombre mood enveloped a house in Bandar Seri Alam, Masai, as the hearse carrying six-year-old A. Tishant arrived at the premises. It was just past 9.30pm when the van from the Rembau Hospital Forensic Unit rolled into the driveway, greeted by grieving family members and relatives who had begun gathering as early as 7pm. Many were still in shock over what had happened to the boy, and they politely declined requests from the media for interviews or coverage. Among those inconsolable was a woman believed to be Tishant's great-grandmother, who briefly spoke to reporters. "He was a bright boy, so loving, and spoke such good English. "I never imagined he would be treated this way, to the point that his face no longer looked the same. "I don't know how long he had been buried in the ground. I can't believe someone could bring themselves to do such a thing." The woman, who declined to be named, said Tishant's mother has been traumatised since learning of her son's death. "My granddaughter, the boy's mother, and my daughter, Tishant's grandmother, are both unwell. "Tishant's mother loved him dearly and often took pictures of him. "We can't imagine how she will cope with this. We can only pray for strength, though we too are struggling to face this." It was reported that the boy's body was found buried in an area in Rompin, Jempol, around 4.30pm yesterday, five days after he was reported missing. Police said the discovery was made following the arrest of the boy's 36-year-old father, who was detained on the same day he lodged a missing person report on July 24. The suspect has been remanded for seven days from July 25 to assist in the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with the post-mortem confirming that the boy had been strangled with a cable tie.

Police: Six-year-old Tishant died after neck strangled with cable tie

SEREMBAN: Six-year-old M. Tishant, whose body was found buried near a railway track in Rompin, died from strangulation caused by pressure to the neck. Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said a post-mortem revealed that the boy had been killed using a cable tie. He said the procedure began at noon at the Rembau Hospital Forensics Unit, and the body was released at 4.26pm. "The post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as compression to the neck. "In this case, it is believed to have been inflicted using a cable tie," he said today. Ahmad Dzaffir said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive, but initial questioning suggests the suspect was facing marital issues and undergoing a divorce. "So far, the suspect has not been cooperative. The exact motive is still under investigation," he added. It was reported that the boy's body was discovered in Rompin at 4.30pm yesterday, about five days after he was reported missing in Johor. Police arrested the boy's 36-year-old father on the same day he lodged a missing persons report on July 24. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Police also said the father, who has been remanded for seven days since July 25, is being investigated for child neglect and for lodging a false report.

Man gets 35 years' jail, caning for girlfriend's murder

KUALA LUMPUR: An Indian national has been sentenced to 35 years in jail and 12 strokes of the cane after being found guilty of killing his girlfriend by strangling her following a sexual encounter three years ago. High Court judge Justice Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid imposed the sentence on Palwinder Singh, 28, on Tuesday (July 29) after finding that the defence had failed to raise any reasonable doubt at the end of its case. "Therefore, the accused is found guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code and sentenced to 35 years in prison and 12 strokes of the cane,' he said. He ordered Palwinder Singh, a former technician, to serve the jail sentence from the date of arrest on Oct 6, 2022. Palwinder Singh was charged with murdering the 36-year-old woman in a hotel room in Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang here between 8.30pm and 9.20pm on that date. Earlier, during mitigation, defence lawyer K. Viknesvaran requested a jail sentence instead of the discretionary death penalty as it was his client's first offence, and he was remorseful. – Bernama
