ENG vs IND 2nd Test Day 4 Session 1: Pant rides luck to maul English attack

India, despite losing their overnight batters KL Rahul (55) and Karun Nair (26), are still pretty much in control of the match after finishing the first session with the scoreboard reading 177 for 3 and their lead at 357 runs. India started the day in a steady manner with the overnight score at 64 for 1. The pair of KL Rahul and Karun Nair got occasional boundaries off Brendon Crase, who continued to try different lines in each over, while keeping things simple off Chris Woakes, who had a few big appeals only to be denied by the umpire. Unexpectedly, Brendon Crase was the one who finally got the first breakthrough of the day by getting Karun Nair (26) caught behind by Jamie Smith. A few overs later, England took an LBW appeal against Shubman Gill, who came out to bat after Nair. But just like the review taken against him in the first innings, Gill survived due to an inside edge. Amidst all the commotion, KL Rahul silently kept ticking the scoreboard with cautious shots and finally went on to bring up his 18th Test half-century in 78 deliveries. But his innings came to a close after adding just five more to his total, as he was dismissed for 55 by Josh Tongue, with England continuing to crawl back into the game. But then arrived Pant, who in his first five balls scored a four and a six to put the pressure back on England. He was also dropped by Crawley in the very next over off Stokes. Pant continued to attack, adding quick runs for India, sending a wave of frustration through the English camp. He got another lifeline on 31 after Woakes dropped his catch, as India crossed the 100-run mark in the session. India ended up adding 113 runs in the session to extend their lead to 357 runs. They will have in-form Rishabh Pant (41 not out) and Shubman Gill (24 not out) still at the crease when they return for the second session of the day, looking for quick runs. Jaskarn ‘Jacky' Jahj: Man charged over creepy Disneyland ‘wedding' to 9yo unmasked as known paedophile

The man allegedly behind a sick stunt in which he 'married' a nine-year-old girl at Disneyland Paris has been unmasked as a notorious British paedophile. Jaskarn 'Jacky' Jahj has been charged with multiple offences by French police after he allegedly posed as the groom in a creepy mock wedding with a 'scared and confused' child who wore a wedding dress and had four-inch heels taped to her feet. Concerned staff called police as the ceremony was filmed in front of Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty castle when they noted the extremely young age of the 'bride'. Jahj was jailed in the UK in 2016 for four years after being found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with two 15-year-olds and is currently wanted by police in the UK for breaching a sexual harm prevention order and a breach of a sex offender's register notification requirement. He has reportedly been charged with fraud, breach of trust, money laundering and identity theft over the Disneyland allegations. French prosecutors allege Jahj conned Disneyland officials by assuming the identity of a Latvian national, using fake documents to secure permission to carry out the 'wedding' for a private film project. Disneyland and the 100 or so 'guests' recruited for the fake ceremony claim they were deliberately misled about what was to take place and the involvement of a child. Jahj reportedly paid €130,000 (AUD$232,600) to secure private access to the park for the ceremony before the gates opened to the public on June 21 and put out a call for 200 adult and 100 child extras for the film project that, it was claimed, was not intended for broadcast, according to Le Parisien . The so-called guests, recruited through advertisements placed in specialist websites, were promised €200 (AUD$357) for their participation. Alexandre Verney, Assistant Prosecutor for the Seine-et-Marne region, confirmed that the young girl underwent a medical examination and had not 'suffered any violence or coercive acts'. Her mother and a man posing as her father, both Latvian nationals, who were also arrested over the incident, have since been released. According to local reports, the man was paid €12,000 (AU$21,550) to play the role of the bride's father but only learned the girl's age shortly before the event. Prosecutors confirmed on Tuesday that Jahj is known in the UK 'for sexual offences against minors', The Sun reports. For those offences UK prosecutors said he had posed as a top Hollywood producer and plied his two 15-year-old victims with alcohol before abusing them. Since his release from prison, Jahj has been linked to a series of bizarre film stunts, including one in 2024 in which he was filmed naked for a scene using an old BBC truck and Union Jack-draped vehicles for an 'explosion' near London's O2 Arena. He has also previously staged a fake funeral and recruited up to 200 children and young women to play his adoring fans at a fake movie premiere in 2023. A Met spokesperson told The Sun: 'A 39-year-old man is wanted by the Met Police for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a breach of a Sex Offenders' Register notification requirement. 'We are aware the man has been arrested in France for other matters and officers are in contact with the French authorities.'

How an opportunity in defence could make flying taxis a reality

Opportunities in defence, emergency healthcare and cargo could help make flying taxis a reality in the next few years after the sector recently received backing from US President Donald Trump's administration, executives in the industry said at the Paris Airshow. Trump this month told regulators to speed up certification to accelerate the development of electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs), aiming to secure a US lead over Asia in the technology. The executive order gave fresh impetus to an industry that has struggled to win over critics and regulators. "We take a lot of spears, people are like 'batteries are too heavy'," Kyle Clark, founder and chief executive of Beta Technologies, said at the show. "But the reality is, if you put the airplanes in the right places, the benefits are real." Flying taxis - seen in predictions of the future for decades - need to shake off the idea that they are only for the rich to become viable at scale. Their manufacturers said emergency medical services, cargo and defence could help, where they offer a cheaper and quieter alternative to helicopters in areas from passenger and goods transport to rescue missions. BETA, Joby Aviation and Archer Aviation are in the US air force agility prime programme, which aims to develop technologies for autonomous cargo and hybrid-electric aircraft. Joby and Archer have previously signed military contracts worth $131m (R2,357,768,942) and up to $142m (R2,555,943,200), respectively. "We have two aircraft at Edwards air force base, and we are grateful for all the support an learning out of that," said Joby Aviation's founder and CEO JoeBen Bevirt. "We think there are incredible opportunities on the defence side." Clark, who flew Beta's conventional takeoff and landing aircraft in Paris, said the company had a clear position in defence: reliable aircraft that showed up to every mission.

Bursa Malaysia declines at midday as Washington's tariff plan weighs on sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR: Investor confidence remains under pressure amid a fragile global trade environment, as Washington announced its intention to send letters outlining unilateral tariffs to trading partners within two weeks, adding to existing economic uncertainties. At 12.30 pm, the key index retreated by 8.59 points or 0.56 per cent to 1,518.03 from Thursday's close of 1,526.62. The benchmark index had opened 4.15 points lower at 1,522.47 and moved between 1,515.10 and 1,522.70 during the session. In the broader market, losers overwhelmed gainers 798 to 177, with 357 counters unchanged, 1,089 untraded, and 17 suspended. Turnover stood at 1.94 billion units valued at RM1.07 billion. Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) noted that broader market sentiment remains cautious amid lingering uncertainty over the pending US-Malaysia tariff agreement and the traditionally soft seasonality for June. "Investor confidence remains under pressure amid a fragile global trade environment, with the 90-day US reciprocal tariff reprieve on countries set to expire in early July (late August for China), and the approaching US debt ceiling deadline in August," it said in a research note today. HLIB also said the potential market impact from Malaysia's anticipated subsidy rationalisation in the second half of this year, coupled with the expanded sales and service tax (SST) rollout effective July 1, could dampen Malaysia's growth trajectory and cloud corporate earnings visibility in the near term. Among the heavyweights, Maybank lost seven sen to RM9.70, Public Bank was three sen easier at RM4.26, Tenaga Nasional rose two sen to RM14.28, CIMB declined four sen to RM6.85, IHH Healthcare shed two sen to RM6.88 and CelcomDigi eased three sen to RM3.76. In active trade, MYEG fell 1.5 sen to 95 sen, Velesto added half-a-sen to 18.5 sen, Tanco accumulated half-a-sen to 96 sen, while Sinaran Advance was flat at 3.5 sen. On the index board, the FBM Emas Index dropped 82.45 points to 11,362.47, the FBMT 100 Index erased 75.93 points to 11,138.34, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index tumbled 79.34 points to 11,318.17. The FBM 70 Index slipped 162.47 points to 16,340.19, and the FBM ACE Index declined 72.58 points to 4,452.11. Sector-wise, the Plantation Index firmed 35.38 points to 7,229.12 and the Energy Index garnered 13.83 points to 739.96, while the Industrial Products and Services Index shed 1.29 points to 150.9, and the Financial Services Index dwindled 120.30 points to 17,668.97.
