SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch in Cape Canaveral to bring 2nd launch Wednesday

Following the Axiom Space crewed launch early Wednesday morning, the second rocket launch of the day is planned for this afternoon. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is set to liftoff no earlier than 12:39 p.m. June 25 from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The mission is the latest batch of SpaceX Starlink internet satellites, which delivers internet to customers in some of the most remote areas on Earth. If needed, SpaceX has opportunities to launch until 4:32 p.m. However, the 45th Weather Squadron predicts a 85% chance of favorable weather for this launch window. Upon liftoff, the Falcon 9 rocket will travel on a northeast trajectory. There will be no Space Coast sonic booms, as just over eight minutes past the launch, the rocket's booster will land on a SpaceX drone ship stationed out on the Atlantic Ocean. SpaceX needs good weather for tonight's crewed launch — so how's it looking?

SpaceX, Axiom Space, and NASA are gearing up for a crewed rocket launch in the coming hours, but the mission needs decent weather for it to get underway. So how's it looking? Well, following a number of delays over the last couple of weeks due to weather conditions and technical issues, SpaceX looks as ready as ever to blast four Ax-4 crewmembers toward the International Space Station (ISS) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Recommended Videos The Ax-4 launch team is currently targeting 2:31 a.m. ET on Wednesday (11:31 p.m. PT on Tuesday) for the launch of Axiom Space's fourth private astronaut mission to the orbital outpost, and SpaceX's first crewed launch since March. Recent data from the 45th Weather Squadron, which provides detailed assessments for air and space operations in the U.S., suggests there's a 90% chance of the Falcon 9 leaving the launchpad on time on Wednesday morning — barring any last minute technical issues, that is. In its most recent assessment for the Ax-4 mission, the 45th Weather Squadron said that while there was a small risk of coastal showers overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning, they're likely to be isolated. It said that overall there is only a 10% probability of violating weather constraints, giving the Ax-4 crewmembers an excellent chance of finally beginning their voyage to the space station. If you'd like to watch a livestream of the liftoff and early part of the mission, check out this Digital Trends page, which has all the relevant information as well as an embedded video player for easy viewing. The Ax-4 crew includes individuals from India, Poland, and Hungary, representing each country's first mission to the space station and only their second government-sponsored human spaceflight in more than 40 years. The fourth crewmember is retired NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, who now works for Axiom Space, which is organizing the privately funded mission. The crew will spend about two weeks on the orbital facility, living alongside the current inhabitants while carrying out around 60 scientific experiments in microgravity conditions.

Weather still a factor: Last call on Shubhanshu Shukla's Axiom-4 launch early today

CAPE CANAVERAL (FLORIDA): The rescheduled launch of Shubhanshu Shukla-piloted Axiom-4 mission remained unchanged at 5.30pm IST on Wednesday after a 'weather call' taken at Kennedy Space Centre on Tuesday (8pm IST). However, the weather continues to be a key variable as the stakeholders will take a final call after the 'L-8 hour weather briefing ', scheduled around midnight in US (around 10am IST). At the mission readiness review briefing, Jimmy Taeger, launch weather officer with 45th Weather Squadron of US Space Force, said conditions across central Florida is being shaped by a high-pressure system to the southeast. The system is expected to move north in the coming days, which could shift the winds and bring in scattered showers. While wind conditions are projected to improve mid-week, forecasters are keeping a close eye on the risk of passing showers, especially as launch windows approach. "Though winds are likely to improve, Wednesday looks better, and Thursday even better. The one thing we are going to be watching closely is the possibility of showers moving into the area," Taeger said. Liquid oxygen leak detected during fire test on Falcon-9 William Gerstenmaier, SpaceX vice-president, build and flight reliability, stressed on the company's continued focus on safety and precision, noting that "space flight is really hard, and we're learning every day". During a static fire test of the Falcon-9, SpaceX engineers discovered a liquid oxygen leak that had initially gone undetected during the booster's post-flight refurbishment. "We discovered that we had not fully repaired the booster ... we're installing a purge that will essentially mitigate the leak if it continues," he said. In addition, a thrust vector control issue with engine five was also identified. The affected components have since been replaced.
