Nick Bosa: I definitely think this group can win a Super Bowl

The 49ers host Super Bowl LX. Their chances of playing a home game at Levi's Stadium on Feb. 8 aren't good. Coming off a 6-11 season, the 49ers overhauled their roster. Gone are Dre Greenlaw, Charvarius Ward, Talanoa Hufanga, Javon Hargrave, Leonard Floyd, Maliek Collins and Deebo Samuel. Nick Bosa, though, still believes his team has what it takes. 'I definitely think this group can win a Super Bowl,' Bosa said Thursday on Bay Area radio station KNBR, via David Bonilla of 'I mean, you look at our '19 team, and nobody thought that was [a Super Bowl-level squad]. 'It's not about having a huge-name guy at every position, kind of like we did in '23 or whatever. It's just how you gel, and how you play. And I think, when I look at who we have on this team, I think we undoubtedly have a chance to do that.' The 49ers have seen the return of stars Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams, who combined to miss 20 games last season. Brandon Aiyuk, who missed 10 games last season with a knee injury, still is working his way back. But the 49ers still will need a lot of good health and good luck to do what Bosa thinks they can do.

Report: Brandon Aiyuk likely starts season on PUP, but 49ers haven't ruled him out for Week 1

49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is expected to start the season on reserve/physically unable to perform as he continues his recovery from knee surgery. That would sideline Aiyuk at least the first four games. The 49ers, though, have not ruled out the former first-round draft pick from playing the season opener, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Maiocco added that the 49ers likely will play it safe with Aiyuk after he tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee Oct. 20. 'Even though the timeline, everything being equal, might point toward, Hey, there's a chance Week 1 — and there still might be a chance Week 1 — I think the feeling inside the organization has always been don't take any chances, start him off on PUP when they report to training camp on July 22, and then more than likely, just have that carry over into the regular season,' Maiocco said, via David Bonilla of Coach Kyle Shanahan already said Aiyuk will start training camp on active/PUP. Aiyuk played seven games last season and made 25 catches for 374 yards and no touchdowns, all career lows.

George Kittle: 49ers have "lofty expectations" for 2025

The 49ers overhauled their roster this offseason, something General Manager John Lynch called it a "little uneasy" but necessary. The changes haven't changed the team's outlook. They still expect to contend. Advertisement "I would say we have pretty lofty expectations," 49ers tight end George Kittle told CBS Sports, via David Bonilla of "We always do. We understand that we lost some really key players. I'm aware of that. [Safety Talanoa] Hufanga, [linebacker] Dre Greenlaw, [defensive tackle Javon] Hargrave, [cornerback] Charvarius WArd, one of my favorite teammates I've had, [wide receiver] Deebo [Samuel], one of my favorite teammates, [offensive guard] Aaron Banks went to Green Bay. "We lost some guys, and that is obvious. We're aware of that. But I feel like, in the way we signed guys in free agency, the way that we drafted, we targeted those holes that we lost. I'm not going to say we're going to replace All-Pro players, Pro Bowl players immediately, but I think we drafted really, really well." Kittle pointed to the fact that nearly every player participated in the voluntary offseason program as the 49ers try to bounce back after last season's 6-11 finish. "I think what our goal is—is our offense needs to play at a really high level," Kittle said. "We brought back basically everybody [on offense], which is pretty fun. And when you have [running back] Christian McCaffrey, [quarterback] Brock Purdy, [left tackle] Trent Williams, it makes me pretty excited to play football; I will say that. You can throw me in there, too, with [fullback] Kyle Juszczyk. We're decent as well."

John Lynch expresses confidence in WRs while Brandon Aiyuk recovers

The 49ers' top receiver Brandon Aiyuk is still recovering from a torn ACL and MCL suffered midway through the 2024 season. Given the severity of the injury, it's unlikely that Aiyuk will be ready for Week 1. But San Francisco General Manager John Lynch said in an interview with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area that he's confident in the club's next men up — like Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall. 'We always keep a look for what's out there, but we do like our group,' Lynch said, via David Bonilla of 'I think, first of all, you start with Jauan. Jauan had a tremendous season last year. He's been a tremendous competitor, player for us since he's been here. I think the fans, the team feed off Jauan's energy. He plays football the right way. I love his style. 'Ricky is a really ascending player we're excited about. Just scratched the surface of who he could be. And Ricky's going to play well for us this year. I'm confident in that. He's going to seize that opportunity that he has.' Lynch also noted that Jacob Cowing, rookie Jordan Watkins, and Demarcus Robinson all have a chance to contribute. 'So, in total, there's opportunity out there, and then we'll have a gift when B.A. comes back, whenever that is,' Lynch said. 'But these guys, we're comfortable and confident in their ability to get the job done until that time.' Jennings was second on the team last season with 77 receptions, 975 receiving yards, and six touchdowns, playing in 15 games. Pearsall appeared in 11 games with four starts and caught 31 passes for 400 yards with three TDs.
