This year, the celebration is set to take place at Austin, TX's Germania Insurance Amphitheater. He'll be joined by special guests Bob Dylan, The Avett Brothers, The Mavericks, Asleep at the Wheel and Tami Neilson. Festivities begin at 3:30 p.m. 'I'm 92-years-old and I'll be there so you have no excuse,' Nelson said in a statement. 'I look forward to bringing back my annual 4th of July Picnic to the city I love and sharing this special event with all my Austin fans.' Last July 4, Set List FM reports the 'On The Road Again' singer performed a whopping 22 songs in New Jersey. Highlights included 'Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,' 'Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die' and his Hank Williams 'I Saw The Light' cover. Pretty impressive for someone born in 1933. 'I'm not worried about [my health],' Nelson told the Associated Press. 'I don't feel bad. I don't hurt anywhere. I don't have any reason to worry about dying. But I don't know anybody who's lived forever.' If you want to see the 12-time Grammy winner and Abbot, TX native play live in the Lone Star State's 'weirdest' city, last-minute tickets are still available. Some are quite inexpensive, too. At the time of publication, the lowest price we found on general admission lawn passes was $57.02 including fees. Seats can be scooped up for as low as $107 including fees. The Real Reason Why Willie Nelson Celebrates Two Birthdays
Willie Nelson celebrates his 92nd birthday this year, and some fans might be surprised to learn that the "On the Road Again" singer actually has two birthdays. Willie was born in 1933 in Abbott, Texas, a small town about 25 miles north of Waco. His actual birthday is April 29, but, because he was born so late at night, the country clerk wasn't able to record it. So, on paper, his birthday is April 30. Willie explained, "I was born before midnight on the 29th but it didn't get registered in the county courthouse until the next day, the 30th. So, it went out officially as the 30th. So I just do both days." In case you're wondering, Willie is showing no signs of slowing down. His 77th studio album, Oh What a Wonderful World, was released on April 25, and his Outlaw Festival tour kicks off in May for the 10th year. This time, Willie will be joined by Bob Dylan, Billy Strings, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Sheryl Crow, Turnpike Troubadours, The Avett Brothers, Wilco, and more. Plus, he's bringing back his 4th of July Picnic in Austin, Texas. With a storied career like Willie's, it's certainly worth a double celebration! We're looking forward to seeing what's next for the country icon. Willie Nelson's annual 4th of July Picnic returns to Texas this summer
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Willie Nelson's annual 4th of July Picnic and Fireworks show is returning to its Lone Star roots this summer. The beloved Texas musician's 4th of July celebration will be held at the Germania Insurance Arena on July 4 in Austin, reverting back to Texas after last year's concert was held in Camden, New Jersey. The 2025 lineup will feature Willie Nelson & Family, Bob Dylan, The Avett Brothers, The Mavericks, Asleep At The Wheel and Tami Neilson, per Monday's announcement. 'I'm 92 years old and I'll be there so you have no excuse,' Nelson said in the release. 'I look forward to bringing back my annual 4th of July Picnic to the city I love and sharing this special event with all my Austin fans.' RELATED: How long has Willie Nelson held the 4th of July Picnic? Nelson began the holiday tradition in 1973, according to records from the Bullock Texas State History Museum. That concert began as a three-day stint in Dripping Springs, with the location paying homage to the Dripping Springs Reunion Nelson played in 1972 that inspired the creation of the 4th of July concert. The 2024 concert, played at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, featured Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples and Celisse on its lineup. Prior to its northeastern relocation, Q2 Stadium hosted the concert in 2022 and 2023, following a virtual iteration of the show in 2021. Nelson's traditional showcase has only strayed away from Texas a handful of times. Prior to the 2024 concert, the last time it was held outside Texas was in 2009, when the concert took place in South Bend, Indiana. Other non-Texas locations included Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1977; Kansas City, Missouri in 1978; Atlanta, Georgia in 1983; and George, Washington in 2007. General ticket sales begin at 10 a.m. on Friday on Ticketmaster's website. Alongside eight hours' worth of live music, the event will also include food, drinks and fireworks.
