Rapper 50 Cent slams Zohran Mamdani over tax plan: Will pay to send him out of New York

Rapper 50 Cent has taken a dig at New York Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani over his proposed plan to hike taxes on the wealthy, saying he'd rather pay the politician to leave the hip-hop star, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, lashed out on Instagram on Wednesday after Mamdani name-dropped him during a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, where the newly elected Democratic mayoral candidate spoke about taxing high earners. Mamdani is son of award-winning Indian-American filmmaker Mira did he come from? Whose friend is this? I'm not feeling this plan. No,' 50 Cent wrote in the post. 'I will give him $258,750 and a first class one-way ticket away from NY.' Mamdani, a 33-year-old politician who recently pulled off a surprise win against former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic mayoral primary, discussed his plan during the June 11 interview. Among his proposals: a 2% flat tax increase on New Yorkers earning $1 million or more annually.'I know if 50 Cent is listening, he's not going to be happy about this,' Mamdani quipped during the segment. 'He tends to not like this tax policy, but I want to be very clear - this is about $20,000 a year.'The remark clearly struck a nerve with the rapper, who is reportedly worth close to a billion dollars. In a follow-up jab, he wrote: 'I'm telling [President] Trump what he said too!' accompanied by a thinking-face broader platform includes increasing funding for public transportation, supporting small businesses, and what he described as efforts to 'Trump-proof' the isn't the first time 50 Cent has weighed in on politics. The rapper has previously spoken out against tax policies he sees as unfriendly to high earners.- EndsMust Watch

‘One way ticket out of NYC': Rapper 50 Cent's offer to Zohran Mamdani over proposal to tax rich

American rapper 50 Cent has sparked controversy with his recent post on Instagram slamming the Indian-origin politician Zohran Mamdani's proposed tax reforms. The hip-hop star offered to buy Mamdani a 'first-class one-way ticket' out of New York City after the newly nominated Democratic mayoral candidate vowed to raise taxes on the wealthy. Mamdani, a democratic socialist and son of Indian filmmaker Mira Nair, recently clinched the Democratic nomination for New York City mayor. His campaign focused on housing affordability, rent freezes in stabilised units, city-run grocery stores, and free public transport, all to be funded through increased taxes on New York's top earners. In an Instagram post, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, shared a clip of Mamdani explaining his tax proposal and wrote, 'Where did he come from? Whose friend is this? I'm not feeling this plan no.' The rapper also added, 'I'll give him $258,750 and a first class one-way ticket away from NY. I'm telling Trump what he said too!' The rapper's outburst came in response to Mamdani's comments on The Breakfast Club podcast earlier this month, where he suggested a flat 2% tax hike for those earning over $1 million annually. 'I know if 50 Cent is listening, he's not going to be happy about this,' Mamdani had said, anticipating pushback. Right-wing social media users, including Trump supporters, quickly joined the fray, mocking Mamdani and cheering 50 Cent's remarks. MAGA-aligned accounts told Mamdani 'good riddance,' while conservative influencer Nick Sortor reacted with 'LMAO.' Despite the backlash, Mamdani stood by his plan during a CNN interview, citing data from the Fiscal Policy Institute which suggested that high earners were less likely to leave New York than lower-income groups, and often moved to other high-tax states like New Jersey and California. Mamdani, who recently defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo in a surprise political upset, said the issue was less about tax burdens and more about quality of life in the city.

"Rs 2.2 Crore, One-Way Ticket": Rapper 50 Cent's Offer To Zohran Mamdani

Rapper 50 Cent has taken aim at Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for New York mayor polls, over his proposed tax policies, offering the candidate a "first class one-way ticket" out of the city. Mr Mamdani, an assemblyman from Queens and self-described democratic socialist, won in Tuesday's Democratic primary, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo. His poll pitch focuses on making life more affordable for working-class New Yorkers, with promises to freeze rent on stabilised units, provide free public buses, and set up city-owned grocery stores. To fund these, he plans to raise taxes on the city's richest residents and big corporations. On Wednesday, Queens native and Grammy-winning rapper 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, posted a clip of Mr Mamdani outlining his tax plan. "Where did he come from? Whose friend is this? I'm not feeling this plan. No. I will give him $258,750 (over Rs 2.2 crore) and a first class one-way ticket away from NY," the rapper wrote on Instagram. View this post on Instagram A post shared by 50 Cent (@50cent) The comment came after Mr Mamdani name-dropped 50 Cent on The Breakfast Club podcast, acknowledging that his tax policies may not sit well with celebrities and wealthy figures. "I know if 50 Cent is listening, he's not going to be happy about this. He tends to not like this tax policy, but I want to be very clear this is about $20,000 a year," Mr Mamdani said. He said his tax plan targets corporations making millions in profit, not just revenue, and includes a flat "2 per cent tax increase" on the top "1 per cent of New Yorkers", specifically those earning a million dollars or more annually. The rapper, whose net worth is estimated near $1 billion, fired back on Instagram, writing, "I'm telling Trump what he said too." Zohran Mamdani elaborated on his tax plans during a CNN interview with Erin Burnett on Thursday. Responding to concerns that the wealthy might leave the city if taxes go up, Mr Mamdani cited a 2023 Fiscal Policy Institute report that found the top one per cent of earners leave New York at one-fourth the rate of other income groups and often relocate to other high-tax states like New Jersey and California. Zohran Mamdani argued that quality of life, not taxes, is the driving factor behind such moves and said his policies are designed to benefit working-class New Yorkers without causing economic flight.

Rapper 50 Cent offers NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani $258K to get lost: ‘Where did he come from? I'm telling Trump'

American rapper 50 Cent is ready to cough up a big amount to get rid of NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, even offering a one-way, first-class ticket out of the state. The India-origin assemblyman, a vocal left-winger, recently caught heat over his tax-the-rich plan. The Big Apple mayoral hopeful went as far as name-dropping 50 Cent while pushing his agenda. That didn't sit well with the Queens-born rapper, who reposted the clip on Instagram, fired back asking, 'Who is this guy? Where did he come from?' and warned he's 'telling Trump' what this Democrat's up to. The video referenced, comes from The Breakfast Club podcast, where Mamdani pitched taxing corporations raking in millions in profit. Also read: Zohran Mamdani, New York City's next potential mayor, once told mom Mira Nair to direct The Namesake instead of Harry Potter 4 and cast Kal Penn Mamdani, who recently beat Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary, made his podcast appearance earlier this month. There, he spoke about his plan to raise $10 billion for the city by increasing corporate taxes and imposing a 2% tax hike on New York's top 1% earners, meaning all those making over $1 million a year. 'We're talking about corporations that are making millions of dollars, not in revenue, but in profit,' Mamdani said during the June 11 interview. 'And the second is taxing the top 1% of New Yorkers. We're talking about people who make a million dollars a year or more, taxing them just by a flat 2% tax increase,' he said on one of the most listened-to radio shows in the state. Adding that his goal is to 'Trump-proof' NYC by funding things like public transport and small business support, he said, 'I know if 50 Cent is listening, he's not going to be happy about this. He tends to not like this tax policy, but I want to be very clear, this is about $20,000 a year.' Now, weeks later, the rapper clapped back on Instagram. Sharing the video, he wrote, 'Where did he come from? Whose friend is this? I'm not feeling this plan. No. I will give him $258,750 and a first-class one-way ticket away from NY. I'm telling Trump what he said, too!' A post shared by 50 Cent (@50cent) That 'telling Trump' part was a cheeky callback to Jackson's most recent comment about 'ratting' on Diddy to Trump, after reports claimed that the President has not ruled out pardoning Diddy, who's currently caught up in a sex trafficking and racketeering investigation. For the unversed, 50 Cent has been vocal about taxes, and in 2020, even sided with Trump when Biden spoke about tax hikes that would've meant 62% taxes for top earners in NYC. At the time, 50 posted: 'WHAT THE F–K! (VOTE FOR TRUMP) IM OUT. F–K NEW YORK. The KNICKS never win anyway. I don't care Trump doesn't like Black people. 62%—are you out of your f–***ing mind?' Mamdani, the self-proclaimed democratic socialist, ousted Cuomo after securing 43.5 percent of the vote, with 90 percent of ballots counted. If he wins, he would be New York's first Muslim mayor.

50 Cent offers Zohran Mamdani a ‘first class one way ticket' out of NYC after mayoral nominee threatens to hike up his taxes

Rapper 50 Cent has offered Zohran Mamdani a 'first class one-way ticket' out of New York City after the mayoral nominee threatened to hike up his taxes. Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, won the city's Democratic primary Tuesday after campaigning on affordability for average New Yorkers. Mamdani has promised to freeze the rent in stabilized units, create city-owned grocery stores and make buses free. Most of his promises would be made possible by increasing the taxes of New York's wealthiest people. On Wednesday, Queens native 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis James Jackson III, posted a video of Mamdani explaining his tax policy and wrote: 'Where did he come from[?] Whose friend is this? I'm not feeling this plan no.' 'I will give him $258,750 and a first class one way ticket away from NY. I'm telling [President Donald] Trump what he said too !' said Jackson, who put Trump's face on his album cover at an event following the president's first assassination attempt. Jackson was reacting to an interview Mamdani did with 'The Breakfast Club' podcast earlier this month, in which he talking about 'taxing the top one percent of New Yorkers. We're talking about people who make a million dollars a year or more, taxing them just by a flat two percent tax increase.' 'I know if 50 Cent is listening, he's not going to be happy about this. He tends to not like this tax policy, but I want to be very clear this is about $20,000 a year,' Mamdani said. Supporters of Trump's Make America Great Again movement were quick to laugh and make jokes of 50 Cent's commentary. Mamdani, who caused a political upset when he beat former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to the nomination on Tuesday, further explained his tax plan in an interview with CNN's Erin Burnett Thursday evening. Not only will he raise the taxes of the top one percent of New Yorkers but he wants to work on ' increasing the top corporate tax rate of New York to match that of New Jersey.' When asked about the possibility of New York's wealthiest people deciding to leave the city if their taxes were to increase, Mamdani referred to a December 2023 report from the Fiscal Policy Institute. ' The Fiscal Policy Institute did an analysis of the top one percent of New Yorkers and found that they leave the city at one-fourth the rate of other income categories. And when they do leave, they leave to what are called high tax states, New Jersey, California. So what it then comes down to is why are they leaving? Is it fiscal policy or is it actually quality of life? And I've heard that time and again from welfare New Yorkers, from all New Yorkers,' Mamdani said.
