Springfield brewery, cannabis store team up to offer downtown concert
SPRINGFIELD — Owners of a local brewery and a cannabis store are teaming up to bring more outdoor concerts to downtown and to help promote local businesses at the same time.
White Lion Brewery and 6 Bricks are hosting Flower Fridays starting with DJ Onyx from 5-8 p.m., Friday in Tower Square Park located on Main Street across from the mall where the brewery is located.
'We are all about creating new experiences and new adventures in the city of Springfield,' said Ray Berry, owner and founder of White Lion Brewery. 'We hope small businesses will benefit.'
Berry has already held pop-up beer gardens outside near his business and will do so for the event. There will also be some food served up with the music.
While it is still illegal to consume cannabis in parks and other public places, 6 Bricks will have informational booths set up and take the opportunity to market their products and educate people about legal cannabis they sell, Berry said.
'Ray and I have businesses on Main Street Springfield. Our two respective family businesses work hard to bring folks to our downtown. We appreciate the efforts of the city of Springfield and business groups to do the same, but we believed we could do more, and we are,' said Payton Shubrick, owner of 6 Bricks.
Other entities such as the Springfield Business Improvement District have held summer outdoor concerts in the past in downtown locations including Stearns Square and they have proven popular.
So far, the two haven't scheduled a second event for Flower Fridays but hope to do so, Berry said.
'We want to see how it goes and we want to see if the public wants more,' he said.
