New officer takes charge of 6 Karnataka Naval Unit NCC in Udupi
Commander Aswin M. Rao took over as the new Commanding Officer of the 6 Karnataka Naval Unit NCC, Udupi, on Thursday, June 26. Cdr. Rao succeeded Lt. Commander M.A. Multani. Cdr. Rao, a native of Karkala in Udupi district, has been in Indian Navy for over 20 years. Commissioned as Air Electrical Officer in early 2000s, he has served in establishments namely INS Valsura, INS Sharada, NIAT Kochi, CEMILAC Bengaluru. He was involved in trails of helicopters namely ALH Mk1, ALH Mk III and Chetak. He received Chief of Naval Staff commendation while serving at NIAT, Kochi. Rao is an alumnus of NMAMIT, Nitte, and IIT Kanpur, an official release said.

NCC's training camp begins in Manipal
Udupi: The 6 Karnataka Naval Unit NCC, Udupi, launched its Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) at MIT, Manipal, from May 25 to June 3, bringing together 600 cadets from across the state for intensive training and character-building exercises. The camp features participation from 108 Nau Sainik Camp (NSC) volunteer cadets representing various NCC Naval units across Karnataka, 400 cadets from coastal Karnataka districts attending their Annual Training Camps, and 20 specially selected cadets of IDSSC of Mangalore Group. This diverse gathering aims to foster unity, discipline, and leadership among the youth. Col Viraj Kamath, Group Commander, Mangalore NCC Group, inaugurated the camp. He described the CATC as a transformative opportunity for cadets to experience military-style discipline, structured routines, and personal growth. "This camp represents the true spirit of the NCC, a platform to develop resilience, teamwork, and leadership through challenging activities," he said. The Group Commander urged participants to fully immerse themselves in the 10-day programme. He reminded cadets to maintain sportsmanship and integrity during competitions. With monsoon rains affecting the region, Col Kamath also stressed the importance of health precautions. Cadets were advised to stay vigilant against weather-related illnesses while maintaining their training rigour. Under the leadership of Lt Cdr MA Multani, Commanding Officer of 6 Karnataka Naval Unit NCC, the camp offers a packed schedule, including precision drill exercises, specialised classroom sessions on naval subjects, motivational guest lectures by armed forces officers, competitive evening sports activities, cultural programmes showcasing Karnataka's heritage, and social service and community development (SSCD) initiatives. This camp is designed to test physical endurance, mental agility, and team spirit. This CATC serves as a crucial platform for cadets to qualify for advanced NCC programmes and Nau Sainik Camp selections. Senior NCC officials confirmed that outstanding performers will be identified for special commendations during the closing ceremony on June 3.
