Yinson's JV firm wins US$600mil contract in Vietnam

KUALA LUMPUR: Yinson Holdings Bhd, via its joint venture PTSC South East Asia Pte Ltd (PTSC SEA), has secured a long-term contract valued at up to US$600 million (RM2.53 billion). This is for the charter, operation and maintenance of a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel for the Block B field offshore Vietnam. The contract was signed on July 28 with Phu Quoc Petroleum Operating Company (PQPOC), which is the operator of Vietnam's Block B&48/95 and 52/97 fields under the Vietnam Block B gas project. "The contract is estimated to have a duration of 14 years, with an option for a potential extension of up to nine years," Yinson said in a Bursa Malaysia filing. PTSC SEA is a 49:51 joint venture between Yinson Production Capital Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yinson, and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation. The Block B gas project, located 250km to 400km southwest of Vietnam's Ca Mau province and O Mon power complex, aims to supply over five billion standard cubic metres of gas annually to key energy demand zones in the region. "The project is expected to help meet rising energy demand in Vietnam's southwest region while generating economic benefits for the Vietnamese government, Petrovietnam and investors," Yinson said. Yinson noted that while risks such as schedule slippage and cost overruns are inherent during the construction phase, they are expected to be mitigated by the group's expertise and internal controls.

Bangladesh ex-PM Hasina slams CA Yunus for destroying country's economy

Dhaka, June 7 (UNI) Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has slammed Chief Advisor Mohammed Yunus for his speech announcing April 2026 for the national polls, and asserted that he has destroyed the country's economy, caused massive social instability, and is destroying its very history and identity. Rejecting Yunus's claims that the country's economy was in shambles before he came to power in August last year, Hasina said: 'I saw his speech today. Yunus was trying to make excuses for his misdeeds.' 'His remarks do not match the reality. He claimed that the economy was shattered when he came to power. How is it possible? Rather, our economy was in the strongest position,' she added, reports Daily Republic. Highlighting the success of her tenure, and her efforts in uplifting the country's economy, she said 'He has destroyed the economy so much that he could not surpass my last budget worth Tk7,97,000 crore (USD 7.954 billion); rather, he reduced it. The budget does not go downwards. 'When I took office in 2009, Bangladesh's budget was only Tk68,000 crore (USD 5.576 billion), and it rose to Tk7,97,000 crore. In South Asia, Bangladesh's economy became the second, ninth in Asia, and 35th in the world,' the former PM added. She further stated that Bangladesh's GDP was growing by 8% prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and despite the pandemic, the global crash of stocks, and the further deterioration caused by the Russia-Ukraine war, she was able to keep the economic growth at 6.7%. 'The Awami League increased per capita income to $2,794 from $445 in 2009. In 2023, Bangladesh's GDP rose to 7.4%. Due to extensive pro-people programmes, poverty was reduced to 18% and extreme poverty to 5%.' Recalling the UN General Assembly verdict about Bangladesh's economic status, she said that under her Awami League government, the country was finally recognised as a developing nation, and one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Bashing the CA for disrupting the country's economic growth, she said 'He has destroyed the country's economy', adding that the prices of essentials goods is sky high, and unemployment rate has drastically gone up. 'During the Awami League tenure, a day labourer or rickshaw-puller could earn enough to arrange three meals for the family. Now they cannot earn money for one meal. 'We reduced the poverty rate. He has increased it.' Calling the CA a 'very smart liar', she said that inflation in the country had drastically gone up since Yunus took office, increasing up to 14% as opposed to its earlier rate of 8-9%. Condemning his government's use of mob violence as a tool for political gains, and calling his rule a 'mobocracy', she called him 'Mob King Yunus', rubbishing his claims that all her development projects in the country as PM were named after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman because he was her father. Stating that it was a way of showing respect and acknowledging his contributions, Hasina said 'Yunus claims that I named everything after my relatives, parents, and siblings. It is not true. The Father of the Nation brought us independence. You cannot wipe out the name of Bangabandhu no matter how hard you try. 'History takes its own course. Today, you are trying to wipe out the memory of Bangabandhu and remove his name from everywhere. Where do you stand? The name Bangladesh was given by Bangabandhu.' UNI ANV RN

AP: Jagan accuses CM Naidu of financial mismanagement, targets 'yellow media' for bias

Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], May 22 (ANI): Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the current TDP-led government in the State, accusing Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu of failing to deliver on pre-election promises and engaging in financial mismanagement. The former chief minister also took aim at what he called the 'yellow media' for biased reporting in favour of the ruling party. 'I am not only fighting against Chandrababu Naidu but also against the 'yellow media',' Reddy said in a press conference. 'Before the elections, Naidu promised development, welfare, and income generation. He even claimed that Andhra Pradesh was turned into Sri Lanka during my regime. But now, let us examine what he has actually done in the last 11 months. He did not implement welfare schemes to the beneficiaries,' he added. He claimed that his government successfully managed the state even during the unexpected COVID-19 pandemic. 'Despite the crisis, both investments and GDP increased during that time and throughout our (YSRCP) tenure,' the YSRCP chief said. He said that in just 11 months, the state's revenue saw a growth rate of 3.08%. This is an important figure the public should be aware of, he said. 'The gross tax and non-tax revenues of the central government in FY 2024-25 (up to February 2025) amounted to Rs36,97,545 crore. In FY 2023-24 (up to February 2024), it was Rs32,50,181 crore. This reflects a total growth rate of 13.76% at the central level,' he said. Reddy said that under the coalition government led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, additional borrowings of Rs30,100 crore were made. 'Capital expenditure declined by 17.80%, and most of the budgetary expenditure is being funnelled into the pockets of CM Chandrababu Naidu's associates,' he said. 'During the YSRCP government, even when accounting for all forms of liabilities, the total increase amounted to Rs3,32,671 crore over five years. In comparison, the liabilities in just the first year of the TDP government have risen by Rs1,37,546 crore, which is 41% of the total borrowings made during the entire five-year YSRCP term,' he added. He said that borrowings secured specifically for Amaravati amount to Rs3,10,000 crore. 'Chandrababu Naidu has been involved in a financial deal amounting to Rs11,000 crore with Access Energy India Pvt. Ltd. This agreement is for 400 megawatts of power at an annual cost of Rs210 crore, with a tariff of Rs4.60 per kWh,' he alleged. The YSRCP chief said that on 31st July 2024, SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India) invited tenders for the procurement of power with an assured four-hour daily supply during peak hours. The tariff discovered and the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) executed were at Rs3.53 per kWh. 'During our (YSRCP) regime, the Andhra Pradesh Government executed a Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with SECI for power supply at Rs2.49 per kWh, with a complete ISTS (Inter-State Transmission System) waiver,' he said.
