India seamer Mohammed Siraj pulled out a heartwarming tribute for Portugal and Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident last week. The pacer had snapped up England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith for 51 at Lord's during the second day of the 3rd Test match and then paid his respects to Jota. As soon as he got the wicket, Siraj gestured the number 20 with both hands and then pointed towards the heavens. The '20' gesture was because Jota used to wear jersey number 20 when playing for Liverpool. This is also not the first time Siraj had brought out a celebration linked with football with the India pacer frequently doing the famous Cristiano Ronaldo 'Siuuu' celebration as well. Spanish police release Diogo Jota statement shedding new light on tragic crash

Spanish authorities have indicated for the first time that Liverpool star Diogo Jota is believed to have been behind the wheel of the Lamborghini involved in the fatal crash that claimed the lives of the footballer and his brother André Silva. The police have also said that initial tests hint that the 28-year-old Jota may have been in excess of the permitted speed limit on that particular stretch of the motorway, as per the Mirror. Jota and his younger sibling, 26, were laid to rest on Saturday after their deaths in the early hours of Thursday morning near Zamora, Spain. The tragedy occured shortly after Jota had wed his long-time partner Rute Cardoso on June 22, with whom he has three children. Tributes from across the world have flooded in ever since. In what is only their second formal communication since the last week's incident on the A-52 by Zamora, close to the Portuguese border, the Civil Guard said: "The expert report is still being worked on and finalised. "Among other things traffic police from the Zamora branch of the Civil Guard are studying the tread marked by one of the wheels of the vehicle. "Everything is also pointing to a possible high excess of speed over the permitted speed on that stretch of the motorway. 'All the tests carried out for the moment point to the driver of the crash vehicle being Diogo Jota. The expert police report when it is finalised will be handed over to a court in Puebla de Sanabria.' Liverpool's squad arrived at Kirkby for their initial pre-season training on Tuesday morning. This comes just three days after the funeral of their colleague in Portugal. Mohamed Salah shared a moving tribute on social media saying he would struggle with the absence of Jota as the team gathered again. "I am truly lost for words," the Egyptian star posted last week. "Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break. Team mates come and go but not like this. It's going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won't be there when we go back." Head coach Arne Slot expressed that the sense of loss is overwhelming, saying: "He was a loved one to all of us." Jurgen Klopp, who signed Jota for Liverpool in 2020, also shared his sorrow on Instagram. The Merseyside club's summer schedule included a friendly against Preston North End at Deepdale this coming Sunday. Nevertheless, whether the game will proceed remains uncertain, with Slot due to consult with the players about their willingness to play in the fixture or not.

Cast halt Oasis support performance to pay tribute to Diogo Jota in moving speech

More info In a heartfelt moment during their set on the Oasis tour, Cast paused their performance to pay a poignant homage to the late Diogo Jota. Standing before fans at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, Cast's lead singer and fervent Liverpool supporter John Power said, "This is Walkaway. This one is for Diogo Jota. Take it easy brother." The touching lyrics of the song echo sentiments of perseverance and letting go with lines including: "And now you must believe me, you never lose your dreams, so now you must believe me," coupled with the refrain, "Just walk away, walk away, walk away. That's what they say, what they say, what they say. You gotta walk away." As support to Richard Ashcroft, Cast is joining in on the large-scale Oasis stadium tour that's rolling through UK cities such as Cardiff, Manchester, London, and Edinburgh, and will also include a stop in Dublin at Croke Park, reports the Mirror. Notably, their song 'Walkaway' was picked by the BBC for the emotional ending to its broadcast of England's semi-final match in Euro 96. The sudden passing of Jota comes after he and his brother Andre suffered a horrific motor accident in Spain. The brothers died when their car burst into flames following a tyre blowout, which happened as they were overtaking another vehicle on the A-52, just 70 miles west of Valladolid. The tragedy struck mere days after Diogo tied the knot with his partner, Rute Cardoso. (Image: Getty Images) Sadly, a blown tyre led to Diogo and his brother Andre's vehicle spinning off the roadway before engulfing in flames. A fire broke out around 12.40am, spreading to nearby vegetation before being extinguished by firefighters with support from the Civil Guard. Medical officials confirmed the death of the car's two occupants shortly after arriving at the scene. The identities of the pair were initially unknown to police, who only had the vehicle's licence plate for reference. Diogo had wed Rute, mother to his three children, just ten days prior and expressed feeling like "the luckiest man in the world" following their nuptials. Heartbreakingly, Rute was tasked with identifying her childhood sweetheart post-mortem. Rute informed police that Jota and his brother intended to stay overnight in Benavente before continuing their journey to Santander on Thursday, aiming to catch a ferry to Portsmouth, as per Portuguese reports. Psychological support was sought for Jota's wife, and any personal belongings salvaged from the Lamborghini fire were handed over to her. It was a relative of the brothers who raised the alarm when they failed to arrive in Benavente, and later, documentation confirmed they were Portuguese citizens. Liverpool, Jota's former team, released a heartfelt statement: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre. "Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide them with our full support." The Portuguese forward joined the Reds from Wolves in 2020, netting 65 goals in 182 appearances, including six during their Premier League title-winning campaign last season. Jota also claimed the FA Cup and League Cup with Liverpool, in addition to two Nations League titles with Portugal.
