CPI urges district administration to stop removal of party flag posts
The Communist Party of India has urged the district administration to stop removal of flag posts of political parties after the recent direction of the High Court. In a representation to District Collector A. Kulothungan, party secretary A. M. Saleem said the Madras High Court had constituted a larger bench to look into the validity of the order of removal of flag posts. The court has stayed the removal of flag posts of political parties till August 16, he said. 'Moreover, erecting of flag posts and displaying of party flags by political parties does not constitute defacement or objectionable advertisement as defined by the Puducherry Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 2000. The party want the administration to clampdown on those putting up banners and cut-outs which create obstacles to free movement of vehicles and endanger lives,' he said

CPI accuses AINRC-BJP government of making Dalit Ministers scapegoat in their power struggle
The Communist Party of India has accused the AINRC-BJP government of making Ministers belonging to the Dalit community 'scapegoats' in their internal power struggle. In a statement, party secretary A. M. Saleem said the AINRC-BJP combine which came to power in Puducherry after the 2021 Assembly polls had failed to deliver on its promises. The ruling camp was full of contradictions and caught in a power struggle, he said. 'In 2023, Chandira Priyanga, a Dalit member belonging to the AINRC was dropped from the Cabinet. And now, BJP member A.K. Sai J. Saravanan Kumar has resigned. Dalit Ministers become scapegoats whenever problems arise within the BJP and the AINRC combine. The BJP is anti-Dalit and against social justice,' Mr. Saleem said. He urged the people of Puducherry to give BJP a fitting lesson at the appropriate time.

CPI stages protest against dilution of free education scheme for SC, ST students
The Communist Party of India has sought the intervention of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy in setting right complaints regarding implementation of free education scheme for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students in the Union Territory. In a petition submitted to the Chief Minister on Thursday, the party said private educational institutions were not strictly following the free education scheme for students belonging to the Adi Dravidar community in the Union Territory. Though the government was providing funds to private educational institutions for implementing the scheme, schools and colleges were demanding additional funds from the students. The government should ensure that funds were provided to the institutions so that they don't charge any additional fee from the students. The government should also hold a meeting between representatives of private educational institutions and officials from the Adi Dravidar and Education departments to sort out the issues in the implementation of the scheme, party Puducherry secretary A. M. Saleem said. Protest held Before the memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister, party held a demonstration near the Legislative Assembly to protest against the dilution in implementation of the free education scheme for socially marginalised sections.

CPI flags anomaly in EWS quota allocation for recruitment of Assistants in Puducherry
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has alleged that the Puducherry government has incorrectly fixed the quota for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the recruitment for the post of Assistants in Puducherry. The party's Puducherry unit secretary A.M. Saleem, in a statement, said the government has to fill 60% of the Assistant posts through promotion, 20% through limited competitive examination, and the remaining 20% through direct recruitment. The criteria for filling up the Assistant posts was based on the recruitment rules published in 2012. The notification for direct recruitment in posts, which fell vacant from April 29, 2012, was published on August 22, 2024. The model reservation roster for the EWS quota was published on January 31, 2019. As such, reservation under the EWS quota would apply only to the posts notified on or after that date. There are around 418 vacancies in the post of Assistants, the release said. 'As per the recruitment rules criteria, only 83 posts are to be filled through direct recruitment. Out of the 83 posts, eight can be allotted to candidates under the EWS. However, the government has fixed 25 seats for the EWS, which is erroneous. This decision will deprive socially marginalised sections of job opportunities in the recruitment of Assistants. The Chief Minister should immediately intervene to ensure that social justice is protected,' he said.
