iPhone 17 Air's weight rumored along with silicon-carbon battery, interesting frame material
The iPhone 17 Air is coming this September to replace the iPhone 16 Plus, and today a new report gives us some more details about its weight. This is said to be 146g, although past reports have also claimed 145g and 150g. So it's probably safe to assume it will weigh between 145g and 150g. That means it will be lighter than Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge. Part of this is due to the fact that Apple won't be using a titanium frame like Samsung, instead going with the lighter 7000 series aluminum. This makes the frame weigh 25-30g. The OLED display comes in at 35g, the single 48 MP rear camera at 5-7g, the A19 chip and logic board weigh roughly 10-12g combined, the MagSafe module and "other electronic components" go to 10-12g as well, then there's the 15g glass back, and the 35g battery. iPhone 17 Air (bottom) compared to iPhone 16 Plus (top) Speaking of which, this rumor now claims Apple will use Si/C tech to pack more punch into the iPhone 17 Air's battery. The exact capacity isn't known, however every leaker seems to expect it to be under 3,000 mAh (2,800-2,900 mAh most likely). Apple has already been rumored to offer a battery case for the handset, which will of course negate its entire selling point of extreme thinness. The device is once again said to be 5.5 mm thin, beating its main competitor, the Galaxy S25 Edge, in another area. The iPhone 17 Air will allegedly have a 24 MP selfie camera, 8GB of RAM, an OLED screen with 120 Hz refresh rate, Always-On support, the Dynamic Island, Face ID, wireless charging, and global eSIM support.
