City centre fire prompts dry weather safety call
Firefighters have tackled a shrub and grass fire next to a busy main road in Hull city centre. Humberside Fire and Rescue was called at 10:48 BST to reports of a blaze alongside the A63 Castle Street, next to the Murdoch's Connection Bridge. The fire was extinguished a short time later but smoke could be seen blowing across the carriageway while the operation was carried out. A spokesperson for the brigade urged people to be mindful of an increased risk of fire near grassed areas following recent dry weather and to dispose of litter responsibly to reduce the risk. A63 in Melton to close overnight for repairs
A road will be closed overnight for two weeks while it undergoes £230,000 of repair Riding of Yorkshire Council is resurfacing the road on the Woodside bridge roundabout and the overbridge on the A63 Melton which started on Monday, will take place between 20:00 BST and 05:00 and is expected to take two Paul West, cabinet member for environment and transport, said the work had been scheduled overnight "to cause the least interference". Planned closures of A63 Castle Street in Hull cancelled
Highways agency cancels A63 closures A series of planned overnight closures for the A63 in Hull have been cancelled. National Highways, which is building a new junction in Castle Street, said it no longer needed to shut the road on 6, 9, 12 and 16 May, and between 19 and 23 May. A westbound overnight lane closure planned for 30 May has been put back from 20:00 to 22:30 BST due to Super League match between Hull KR and Saint Helens at Craven Park. Signed diversions will be in place via the A15, A164 and the A1079 and A1033.
