Diana Gabaldon sends fans wild ahead of Blood of My Blood premiere with last book sneak peek

The Outlander author has shared a sneak peek of her new book A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out. Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has sent fans into a frenzy as she teased her new book ahead of the Blood of My Blood premiere. The spin off show of Outlander, which is a prequel, is set to air next month and the official launch is taking place in LA on Tuesday, which Diana is in town for. ‌ Taking to her Facebook page, the iconic author marked the special occasion by teasing fans by sharing a snippet of her new book A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out, which is set to be the final instalment in the Outlander series. ‌ She penned: "Well, I'm in LA for the premiere. Looking forward to it! Also to having all of you see it soon! ‌ "In the meantime, though, I thought I'd provide a little entertainment for those at home." She then went on to post a lengthy extract from her book, which fans went wild for. One part fans went particularly liked sees Claire ask Frances what Jamie said to her in Gaelic. She replied: 'He said, 'I burn for thee, Englishwoman'. ‌ "She made a small sound in her throat and looked down at her feet, adding softly, 'And I always will'." Many fans flocked to the comments to talk about the sneak peek. One said: "And that is possibly the best extract ever." ‌ Another said: "Amazing how such a short piece can conjure so many feelings. Amusement, sorrow, fear, anticipation. I can't wait to read this book!" While one added: "How can someone write words this powerful on a regular basis." Another said: "I'm greetin' already and I don't even know what's going to happen." ‌ And one wrote: "Smiling but with tears in my eyes reading that!" A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out is the 10th and concluding volume of the Outlander saga, however Diana previously took to Facebook to address fans' concerns sparked by the seemingly portentous title: "No, that doesn't mean Jamie's going to die." ‌ Clarifying the confusion, Gabaldon stated it was not a "death blessing", but the Blessing of St. Michael, intended for a warrior on the verge of undertaking an essential and dangerous mission. The reassurance allows fans to temporarily set aside their worries - yet with Jamie's ghost making an appearance in the novel, and his lack of immortality established, it's inferred the character will eventually succumb. ‌ Many followers of the series anticipate that Gabaldon's final literary endeavour will offer closure regarding the enigma of Jamie's ghost. Over time, Gabaldon has peppered hints about this mysterious apparition that manifests in 1940s Inverness, immediately before Claire (played by Caitríona Balfe) travels through the stones into Jamie's era. Among these veiled revelations, the author has intimated that the ghost seems to be a 25-year-old Jamie as he was at Culloden. ‌ Yet, Gabaldon also tempered this with the notion that ghosts have the autonomy to choose how they appear, detached from the age they were at the time of death. She further expounded that contrary to some theories, the phenomenon isn't Jamie performing any kind of astral projection across time - rather, it is indeed his spirit from after his demise. There isn't an exact completion date for her novel. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.
