NOVELIC Wins Nomination for 60 GHz Radar In-Cabin Monitoring System From Leading Tier 1 Automotive Supplier
The 60 GHz radar module will enable reliable, Euro NCAP-compliant child presence detection, as well as seat occupancy detection. This technology aims to bring child presence detection to passenger vehicles, along with additional functionality in the form of seat occupancy detection. The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has mandated that automotive OEMs include child presence detection functionality in their vehicles by 2025, in order to secure the best safety rating. NOVELIC has developed a sensor to satisfy this requirement, leveraging mmWave radar technology – enabling top-notch performance while preserving passenger privacy. As opposed to camera-only occupant monitoring systems (OMS), mmWave radar technology can detect children even when obscured by a blanket, or the front seats. Accurate detection can be achieved in 7 seconds, allowing the vehicle to perform actions such as alerting the parent or turning on the air conditioning. The automotive industry is set to benefit from 60 GHz mmWave radars in a multitude of ways – NOVELIC leverages this technology for intrusion & proximity alerts, monitoring the immediate area around the vehicle, and contactless driver vital signs monitoring, measuring the driver's heartrate and respiration rate while operating the vehicle. BELGRADE, Serbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NOVELIC, a European innovator in short-range radar technology, is set to showcase its automotive sensors for the Chinese market this April in Shanghai, China. NOVELIC is exhibiting at the 21st edition of Auto Shanghai 2025, showcasing their 60 GHz in-cabin monitoring and 79 GHz 180° park assist technology in China for the first time, with live demos on the show floor. NOVELIC will make its trade show debut at Auto Shanghai 2025, with live demonstrations of their automotive radar solutions. NOVELIC's ASPER200 is a 79 GHz short-range exterior radar module, meant for passenger vehicles, motorcycles, as well as commercial, transportation, and construction vehicles. The module covers a field of view (FOV) of 180 degrees using a single radar chip, observing an entire side of the vehicle with only one module. Another application the module provides is intrusion and proximity alert – the radar sensor monitors the immediate surroundings around the vehicle's doors, detecting movement and intrusions into the cabin. This low-power mode consumes less than 65 mW. This mode can work in conjunction with camera systems, activating them only when motion is detected by the radar, thus providing power savings. 60 GHz radar technology is also used for contactless vital signs monitoring, observing the driver's heart rate and respiration rate, ensuring the driver is well-rested and fit to operate the vehicle, while preserving privacy.
