30 players named for U19 skills camp
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced the selection of 30 players for the third phase of the U19 Skills Assessment Camp, set to begin from Monday, 7 July in Multan and continue until the end of August. The 20 new players were picked following a detailed match-based assessment process conducted in two earlier phases, during which 65 players were evaluated under the supervision of Azhar Ali, Head of Youth Development. Additionally, 10 players who have previously represented Pakistan U19 and are eligible for the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 have been added to the camp. Players born on or after 1 September 2006 are eligible to participate in the upcoming ICC U19 World Cup. The third phase aims to fine-tune both the technical and mental skills of the selected players as part of PCB's wider strategy to build a strong pool for future international assignments, including the ACC U19 Asia Cup and the ICC U19 World Cup. During the earlier stages, players were divided into two groups and each group played four competitive matches. This setup helped coaches and selectors assess key attributes such as batting, bowling, fielding, and game awareness under match conditions. Players selected in U19 skills assessment camp: Abbas Khan, Abdul Wahab, Ali Hassan Baloch, Asad Umar, Daniyal Ali Khan, Ghulam Haider, Hamza Zahoor, Haroon Khan, Hazrat Ali, Huzaifa Ahsan, Ibtisam Azhar, Mohammad Arshad, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Niqab Shafiq, Rana Adeel Mushtaq, Rizwanullah, Saad Sakhawat, Sadeeq Aman, Sameer Minhas and Yahya Shah Players with prior U19 representation added to the third phase: Abdul Subhan, Ahmed Hussain, Farhan Yousaf, Hassan Khan, Mohammad Huzaifa, Mohammad Tahir, Momin Qamar, Tayyab Arif, Umar Zaib and Usman Khan.

PCB shortlists 30 players for U19 skills assessment camp ahead of Asia, World Cups
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced a 30-member squad for the third phase of the U19 Skills Assessment Camp, scheduled to commence in Multan on July 7 and continue till the end of August. According to the PCB, the selection follows a rigorous, match-based assessment process conducted in two earlier phases, during which 65 players were evaluated under the supervision of former Test captain and Head of Youth Development, Azhar Ali. Among the selected players, 20 were shortlisted on the basis of their performances in the first two phases, while 10 additional players, who have previously represented Pakistan at the U19 level and remain eligible for the ICC U19 World Cup 2026, have also been included. The third phase of the camp aims to fine-tune the technical and mental aspects of young cricketers in preparation for upcoming assignments, including the ACC U19 Asia Cup and ICC U19 World Cup. The PCB also concluded a separate three-phase Skills Development Camp for 47 senior players at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore from June 30 to July 4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Indian Premier League's (IPL) 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family at the Patna airport on Friday, the pictures of which was shared on social media. Suryavanshi became a household name after the 14-year-old's success at the top level of Indian cricket while playing for Rajasthan Royals. PM Modi took to social media to share three pictures oh him with Suryavanshi and his family and wrote, 'At Patna airport, met the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his family. His cricketing skills are being admired all over the nation! My best wishes to him for his future endeavours.' PM Modi has been a big fan of Suyryavanshi ever since the teenager smashed a hundred in the ongoing IPL to become the youngest-ever centurion in the history of the tournament. He even cited Suryavanshi's example to motivate and inspire the athletes at the Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar recently. Suryavanshi also hails from Bihar's Samastipur. The meeting facilitated by Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) president, who took a special permission from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), to summon Suryavanshi to Patna on Thursday and facilitated his meeting with Prime Minister Modi. "It was not just a personal milestone for Vaibhav but also a proof of the fact that there is no dearth of talent in Bihar cricket – what is needed are the right platforms, opportunities, and positive guidance," said BCA president Rakesh Tiwari in a statement. Suryavanshi made headlines last year when he became the youngest cricketer to be picked up at the mega auction by Rajasthan Royals for ₹ 1.1 crore. He took the cricketing world by storm last month when he scored a 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans. He finished his maiden IPL campaign with a fifty. Overall, in seven matches, Suryavanshi amassed 252 runs in seven matches, at a strike rate of 206.56. Earlier, his sensational 2024 season saw him excel both domestically and internationally. During his debut, Suryavanshi scored 71 off 42 balls against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, becoming the youngest Indian to score a List-A fifty. On the international stage, Suryavanshi set the record for the fastest youth Test century by an Indian, scoring a blazing 58-ball ton against Australia in Chennai. 'Not easy to be fearless playing first T20 game...': Pujara hails CSKs Mhatre
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 21 (ANI): Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara hailed youngster Ayush Mhatre for his "fearless and confident" cricket in his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut, saying that playing lot of cricket in Mumbai has helped the young cricketer. While CSK continued to disappoint as a unit with their sixth loss of the competition to Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, one of the positive spots was Mhatre's fearless knock of 32 in 15 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes. Mhatre was brought in as a replacement for injured skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and was played as an opener. His cameo, aside from half-centuries from Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, played a crucial role in CSK posting 176/5 in their 20 overs. Speaking about Mhatre's knock at ESPNCricinfo's programme TimeOut, Pujara said it is not easy to be fearless when you are paying your first T20 game at a high level. "If you are not well-prepared and you are nervous when playing your first game, you do not get that confidence. We say they are fearless but it is not easy to be fearless when you are playing your first-ever T20 game, that too at the highest level. To do that, I am sure he is done enough preparation. I have not seen his journey so far, I do not know much about it, but the way he batted he seemed very confident. He's played a lot of cricket in Mumbai and that's definitely helped him," he added. Mhatre has played nine first-class matches and seven List-A games and made 962 runs for Mumbai. In nine first-class matches, he has made 504 runs in 16 innings at an average of 31.50, with two centuries and a fifty. His best score is 176. In seven List-A matches, he has made 458 runs at an average of 65.42, with two centuries and a fifty, with his best score being 181. In the ACC U19 Asia Cup for India, Mhatre made 176 runs in five matches at an average of 44.00, with two half-centuries. In his first full-fledged Ranji Trophy season for Mumbai this year, he made 471 runs in eight matches and 14 innings, averaging 33.64, with two centuries and a fifty. Mhatre also smashed List A cricket records when he scored 181 off 117 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to become the youngest to hit 150 in a men's List A innings. Former Australian captain Aaron Finch has talked about some change in attitude of debut cricketers now. "Days are gone by [when] you walk into bat in your first game and you think, 'how can I get another game, how can I get myself into a position to get picked next game', and you get 30 off 25 and you go 'I have actually done a pretty good job for myself. But these kids now [say], 'you know what will get me another game - hitting three or four sixes'. Then you become an Impact Player. And you can put it on reels and it can go viral. That's what the new generation is all about," he concluded. In the match, a quickfire 32 in 15 balls (four boundaries and two sixes) by teen debutant Ayush Mhatre and fifties from Shivam Dube (50 in 32 balls, with two fours and four sixes) and Ravindra Jadeja (53* in 35 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) powered CSK to 176/5 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah (2/25) was the top bowler for MI. During the run-chase, after a 63-run stand between Rohit and Ryan Rickelton (24 in 19 balls, with three fours and a six), Rohit (76* in 45 balls, with four boundaries and six sixes) and Suryakumar Yadav (68* in 30 balls, with six fours and five sixes) chasing down the total in 15.4 overs. With this win, MI have climbed to sixth place on the points table, with four wins in four matches, and a total of eight points.
