Kyrie Irving Donates $50K For Tamir Rice Youth Center

Nearly a decade after 12-year-old Tamir Rice was killed by Cleveland police, his name continues to echo, not as a headline but rather a call to action. This week, NBA star point guard Kyrie Irving answered that call with a powerful donation of $50,000 to the Tamir Rice Foundation, bringing a grassroots fundraiser to over $85,000, a huge step closer to its $110,000 goal. The campaign, launched on June 9 by Tamir's mother, Samaria Rice, was created to honor what would have been Tamir's 23rd birthday. The GoFundMe campaign was designed to help further develop a building she purchased in Cleveland as a space for youth enrichment, asking donors to give $23 in honor of the 23 years her son would have lived had he not been gunned down by police. 'I miss my son so much each and every day,' Samaria wrote on the fundraiser page. 'As our family approaches Tamir's 23rd birthday, I'm asking for 23 dollars for 23 years without him. I purchased a building in the city of Cleveland to give back to our inner-city youth with art and cultural developments.' Tamir Rice was just 12 years old when he was tragically shot and killed by Cleveland police officer Timothy Loehmann while playing in a park with a toy gun in 2014. The killing sparked national outrage and became a heartbreaking symbol of police brutality against Black children. Irving's donation, made on June 25, is the largest received to date, but it's not unusual for Irving, who's been putting his money where his mouth is for years. From standing in solidarity with Eric Garner's family by wearing an 'I Can't Breathe' shirt back in 2014, to supporting Indigenous communities, HBCUs, and social justice movements, giving back is who he is. Kyrie Irving's latest act of generosity follows news that the New Jersey-bred point guard opted out of his previous deal and is expected to sign a three-year, $119 million contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks, a team he helped lead to the NBA Finals last season before falling to the Boston Celtics. The new deal will keep the point guard in Dallas for an additional three years when he can activate a player option for the 2027-28 season, according to sources. Irving is currently nursing an ACL injury suffered during the last NBA season. Kyrie may be sidelined with an ACL injury, but clearly, the work hasn't stopped. And neither has Samaria Rice. With just under $25,000 left to raise, this campaign is more than a fundraiser; it's a community call to action to honor Tamir by building something for the next generation that lasts, and thanks to Kyrie Irving, that vision is one step closer to becoming real. Genoa are reportedly interested in signing young Inter Milan and Argentina attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni on loan. This according to today's print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInter1908. Advertisement Inter Milan attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni is currently back at the Nerazzurri. The 20-year-old is part of the Inter squad at the Club World Cup. Carboni has fully recovered from an ACL tear that he suffered in October. That injury had ruled him out of the majority of last season. The Argentine had initially joined Marseille on loan last summer. Reportedly, the French club had a purchase option, whilst Inter had a buyback option. However, the ACL injury completely disrupted any progress Carboni had been making. But on the other hand, it could also be another loan out for Carboni, who spent the 2023-24 season on loan with Monza. And according to Tuttosport, Genoa are keen on the 20-year-old's signature this summer.

Bonmatí came down with a fever during practice Friday and later checked in to a Madrid hospital. The team planned to travel to Switzerland on Sunday for the tournament, where it is considered one of the favorites after winning the 2023 World Cup, even though it has never reached a Euros final before. Spain coach Montse Tomé revealed after Friday's 3-1 victory in a friendly against Japan that the 27-year-old star tested positive for viral meningitis. 'The word is scary, but the doctor tells me that she is under control. She will remain in the hospital and we don't know for how long,' Tomé said. Spain's first game is against Portugal on Thursday in Bern. It will also face Belgium and Italy in Group B. Stability after Rubiales scandal Bonmatí's setback aside, Spain had been enjoying some peace and stability now that the Luis Rubiales scandal is behind them. 'I remember when I used to come to play for the national team and I didn't enjoy it. I just wanted to go home, to be honest,' playmaker Bonmatí, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner , said a few days before falling ill. 'It was tough to play here. The situation wasn't good. But now everything is better, there is more stability for everyone and that benefits the group.' The crisis prompted by the kiss on Hermoso — who was not called up by Tomé for the Euro 2025 squad — helped expedite changes that players had been demanding for a long time, including by some who refused to play for the national team even before the World Cup. 'The conditions have changed a lot,' said Putellas , another two-time world player of the year. 'Especially in terms of travel, nutrition, training. Things have changed radically. Now we are enjoying conditions that are at the top level of the men's team. It's something that has taken a lot of effort and work by many people.' 'We are finally where we wanted to be for some time,' she said. 'Because we have pushed for it, and also because a lot of people have helped us. Now we are just ready to compete and enjoy it.' Prosecutors had asked for a prison sentence. Rubiales was acquitted of a charge of coercion for allegedly trying to make Hermoso downplay the kiss on the lips. Tomé left out Hermoso from the squad saying that 'there's a lot of competition in her position.'
