Jaipur: An Air India Riyadh-Delhi flight AI 926 was diverted to Jaipur International Airport late Sunday night due to poor weather in the national capital. After the diversion, passengers alleged that they were stranded at Jaipur airport for over six hours, having to wait three hours inside the aircraft after landing. A passenger, Hassan Shareef, shared on X that after landing in Jaipur, passengers were inside the aircraft for three hours without any food. "…Air India should have provided a hotel for the delay instead… provided a very cheap category bus and when we requested to arrange a flight, Air India staff treated us rudely…" he stated. Air India, while responding to one of the passengers on X, said, the flight was diverted to Jaipur due to bad weather at Delhi, which falls beyond the purview of the airline. TNN

Air India flight AI 926, operating from Riyadh to Delhi, was diverted to Jaipur International Airport late Sunday night due to bad weather in Delhi. The diverted flight was originally scheduled to land at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) post-midnight on July 7. However, the deteriorating weather in Delhi forced the airline to reroute the flight to Jaipur. According to ANI, after the landing at Jaipur airport, passengers were offered alternative flights to reach Delhi. However, they opted to depart by road from Jaipur to Delhi. The low-cost carrier Indigo said on Monday that the persistent bad weather in Delhi is affecting flight operations. 'Due to air traffic congestion, some flights are currently being held. Please be assured, our teams are working closely with air traffic control and will get you moving as soon as conditions allow,' the airline said on X (formerly Twitter). Indigo also advised passengers to check their flight status on its website before heading to the airport. It said they should expect some extra travel time as traffic is likely to be slow-moving. In another instance, SpiceJet, a domestic airline, also issued a travel advisory on the social media platform X. 'Due to bad weather (heavy rain) in Delhi (DEL), all departures, arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to check their flight status,' the airline said in a post on Monday.

They have since left Jaipur for Delhi by road. Earlier on Friday, an Air India pilot collapsed in the cockpit just minutes before he was supposed to operate the airline's Bengaluru to Delhi flight. The airline confirmed that there was a "medical emergency" involving one of its pilots who was rostered to operate its flight AI 2414 to Delhi on the morning of July 4. The pilot was in the cockpit and just about to sign the necessary documents to accept the aircraft for flying when he collapsed. Subsequently, AI2414 was delayed and flown by another pilot, Air India said. Air India flights have been under the radar since the deadly crash of AI 171 in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, killing 270 people. The Gatwick-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner plunged into the hostel complex of a medical college in Meghani Nagar just minutes after its takeoff from the Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport. The crash killed all onboard, leaving a lone surviving passenger. In the early hours of Monday as well, an intense spell of rain triggered waterlogging issues in many areas, including the Mehrauli-Badarpur road. IMD has issued a yellow alert of rain, thunderstorms and lightning in the national capital for Monday as well. A 15-day heavy rain alert has been issued to multiple states by the India Meteorological Department, including Delhi.

Flight AI2414 was set to depart on schedule, but the rostered pilot fell ill just before takeoff and was immediately taken to a local hospital. In a statement, an Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying, 'There was a medical emergency involving one of our pilots in the early hours of 04 July. As a result, the pilot was unable to operate the flight AI2414 from Bengaluru to Delhi, which he was rostered for, and was taken to a local hospital immediately. The airline assured that the pilot is now in stable condition and remains under the care of medical professionals. He is currently stable but continues to be under the supervision of doctors at the same hospital, the spokesperson added. To minimize disruption, the airline arranged for another cockpit crew member to operate the flight. 'Consequently, AI2414 was delayed and operated by another member of our cockpit crew', the statement noted. Air India said its immediate focus is on the well-being of the pilot and providing support to his family. 'Our immediate priority is to assist the pilot and his family to ensure his speedy recovery', the spokesperson said. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 03:05 am, was delayed and eventually took off at 04:52 am after another pilot was arranged. It landed in Delhi at 07:21 am, nearly 90 minutes behind the scheduled arrival time of 05:55 am, according to in the day, Air India denied allegations of coercing families of victims of the AI-171 accident into signing documents about their financial dependency on the deceased to reduce compensation payouts.
