Congress has three volumes on KTR's misdeeds, says AICC secretary Sampath

HYDERABAD: In a veiled attack on former minister and BRS working president K T Rama Rao, AICC secretary B Sampath Kumar on Saturday claimed that the ruling Congress has compiled evidence of the former IT minister's alleged wrongdoings. He said the party had documented Rama Rao's alleged misdeeds in three large volumes but had so far revealed only a single page. Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, Sampath Kumar said, 'There are three volumes — 'Kalvakuntla Katha Kamameesu', 'Ravu Gari Rasaleelalu', and 'Tarak Todella Kathalu'. If we open them, you will hang yourself.' He added that the Congress government had refrained from disclosing certain matters in order to uphold the dignity of Telangana politics. 'There are more 'books' yet to be released, containing controversial political episodes involving KTR and other BRS leaders,' he said. Sampath Kumar also accused Rama Rao of crossing the line in his political rhetoric. Criticising KTR's 'conflicting stance' on meeting TDP leader Nara Lokesh, he questioned the need for denial if there was nothing improper about such interactions.

CM Siddaramaiah skips mention of Shivakumar at Mysuru event

MYSURU: The cold war between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar came to the fore again during the state government's 'Sadhana Samavesha' here on Saturday. After AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge delivered a lengthy speech, Siddaramaiah took the stage to showcase his government's achievements. He acknowledged the presence of several ministers, legislators and Congress leaders on the stage, but conspicuously left out Shivakumar's name. Shivakumar addressed the gathering and left the venue before Siddaramaiah's speech. Assuming that it was an oversight, a Congress leader, who is an advocate, accompanied by actor and music director Sadhu Kokila, walked up to Siddaramaiah and quietly pointed out that he had not mentioned Shivakumar's name. A visibly upset Siddaramaiah told the advocate that the omission was intentional. 'DK Shivakumar is not on the stage. He left for Bengaluru to attend another event. That's why I didn't take his name. We only show respect and acknowledge only those who are on the stage and not those who have left or are sitting at home. As an advocate you should understand this,' the CM snapped at him. Continuing his speech, Siddaramaiah said, 'There are many ministers and legislators on the stage, who may not get a chance to speak today, as Kharge has to return to Delhi soon. But no one should feel bad about it.' His pointed remarks drew a knowing smile from Mallikarjun Kharge and Home Minister G Parameshwara.

Cong may announce district prez appointments by month-end

Bhopal: The AICC is likely to clear the list of district presidents for the state by the end of the month. Sources in the state Congress office said the final discussions were between PCC chief Jitu Patwari, AICC general secretary for Madhya Pradesh affairs Harish Chaudhary and national party organisational general secretary KC Venugopal. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "Reports submitted by the central observers and state observers are being matched to select the final names for 60 organisational district presidents for Madhya Pradesh," a source said. Meanwhile, Patwari, LOP Umang Singhar and a few more senior functionaries from the state have visited New Delhi to speak to central leaders on their choice of district presidents. However, the AICC officially asked state leaders not to come to Delhi. Instead, they have been asked to send letters if they have suggestions. So far, district president appointments were influenced by recommendations of senior leaders. But on June 3, Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi launched the CWC-approved Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan, the restructuring of the Congress party organization in the state. Madhya Pradesh is the first state to undergo the remodeling of the party after the pilot project has been completed in Gujarat. At the CWC meeting in Ahmedabad in April, the Congress' highest decision-making body decided to restructure the organization and match up with the BJP's organizational strength. It was decided to start with Gujarat as the model state. After Rahul Gandhi's visit, it was decided that the first phase of organizational restructuring would start with the appointment of Congress district presidents. AICC general secretary in-charge of Madhya Pradesh affairs Harish Chaudhary had claimed that appointment of district president would be completed by June 20. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, a month has passed since the deadline and the party is still discussing names of candidates and matching the ground reports prepared by AICC observers and state Congress observers who went to the districts and spoke to party workers. Speaking to TOI, state Congress media cell chief and former minister Mukesh Nayak denied the district president appointments have been delayed. "We are not running late. The AICC sent central observers to the districts and thereafter, the state observers also visited the grassroots to ask party workers to name suitable district presidents," Nayak explained. "The reports of the AICC observers and the state observers are being matched. The meetings are in the final stages, and we can expect the list of district presidents to be released by the AICC soon," he said. Party spokesman Abbas Hafeez argued, "Madhya Pradesh is a big state. And there are districts with two organizational presidents' posts – one for rural and the other for urban areas like Bhopal city Congress president and Bhopal rural district president. The democratic process takes time. And unlike the BJP, the Congress will not announce district presidents one by one. The high command will announce the names soon. " Ruling BJP took a dig. State BJP media department chief Ashish Agarwal took to X and said, "Congress district president appointment is not about capabilities but depends on a quota system. If a person fits the 'quota', only then will he get the district president's chair. Democracy be doomed, here only the leaders' recommendation prevails."

Siddaramaiah releases Rs 50 crore per Assembly segment amid fund crunch complaints

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday announced the release of Rs 50 crore for development works for each Assembly constituency. This comes at a time when several legislators, including those of the Congress, have been vocal about fund shortages. According to sources, they have even complained to AICC General Secretary Randeep Surjwala during his one-on-one meetings in Bengaluru. The CM's announcement comes ahead of next month's legislature session where MLAs were expected to express displeasure over fund shortage. Siddaramaiah, in his letter, said that as per the 2025-26 budget announcement, under the CM's basic infrastructure development schemes, each Assembly constituency will get Rs 50 crore. While the MLAs have to use Rs 37.5 crore for works implemented by PWD, including roads and bridges, the remaining Rs 12.5 crore is at the discretion of MLAs, who can use it for other works. The money is likely to be released in the first week of August. Meanwhile, the opposition BJP has alleged that the money is being released only for constituencies represented by the Congress.

Cong flays CM over false claims on Handri-Neeva project

Kurnool: AICC member and Kurnool District Congress in-charge J Lakshmi Narasimha Yadav has strongly criticised Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for allegedly making false claims about the completion of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project. Addressing a press conference on Friday, Yadav accused the Chief Minister of taking undue credit for a project that was significantly developed during the previous Congress regimes. Yadav stated that it was late Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, former Chief Minister and widely regarded as a pro-farmer leader, who ensured that nearly 90% of the canal work was completed during his tenure. He further noted that in 2012, during N Kiran Kumar Reddy's term as CM, the trial run of the canal was successfully conducted. Former Agriculture Minister Dr N Raghuveera Reddy also undertook a Padayatra from Malyala to Jeedipalli Reservoir as part of the canal's inauguration efforts, releasing water along the route. Taking a dig at Chandrababu Naidu's recent visit to the Malyala Lift Irrigation Scheme, Yadav questioned the government's sincerity towards Rayalaseema's development. He pointed out that though tenders were issued for 80 km of canal repairs, only desilting and minor clearing were done without concrete lining.
