Anantapur MP's sister dies in helicopter crash in Uttarakhand
A woman from Anantapur was killed while her husband sustained injured in a helicopter crash near Bhagirathi river in Uttarakashi district in Uttarakhand on Thursday. The deceased, M. Vedavathi Kumari, is the sister of Anantapur Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MP Ambica G. Lakshminarayana.
According to sources, Ms. Vedavathi and her husband Bhaskar went to Char Dham Yatra on May 4, and after visiting various temples, they reached Yamunotri on Wednesday. It is alleged that the couple spent their time shopping on Wednesday and boarded a private helicopter to reach Yamunotri on Thursday morning.
In total, seven persons were in the chopper when it crashed, according to reports. Bhaskar survived the crash and reportedly suffered fractures on his legs and ribs. He was shifted to the AIIMS Rushikesh for treatment and his condition is said to be stable.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lakshminarayana and his brother Bhadri rushed to Dehradun as soon as the news was out. Their flight was diverted to Delhi due to bad weather in Dehradun, sources said.
Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh condoled the death of Ms. Vedavathi and other tourists in the crash. He directed the officials to ensure that the injured person was provided good treatment at AIIMS Rushikesh.
