AISF holds march to press for recruitment for reserved categories

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The All India Students' Federation (AISF) held a protest march in the city on Tuesday, demanding a govt recruitment drive to fill vacancies meant for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and other reserved categories. The march, which began at Kranti Chowk and concluded at the district collector's office, witnessed a large turnout of AISF volunteers. Protesters raised slogans against the government, accusing it of encroaching upon the rights of marginalized communities. AISF leader Ananta Karhale said the govt had earlier committed to completing the recruitment process by Dec 2019. "Different key departments, including the Public Works Department and Public Health Department, witnessed the appointment of candidates other than those from beneficiary reserved categories. After legal battles and advocacy measures, the govt announced corrective measures, but the desired recruitment was carried out only in a partial manner," he said. The AISF has issued a 45-day ultimatum to the state govt to fulfil its demands. "If the govt does not pay heed to our just demand, we will carry out a long march to Mumbai. The govt will be responsible if any law and order situation arises due to such an agitation," warned AISF leader Madhukar Gaikwad.

AIYF demands job notifications, unemployment allowance

Kurnool: The All India Youth Federation (AIYF) on Monday staged a dramatic protest in front of the Kurnool District Collectorate, demanding the immediate release of job notifications and implementation of the promised unemployment allowance. The protest, led by AIYF District Secretary K. Srinivasulu, saw youth activists demonstrating half-naked and holding empty food plates, highlighting their distress over unfulfilled electoral promises. Addressing the gathering, Srinivasulu criticised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for failing to deliver on his pre-election assurances. 'Before the elections, the Chief Minister promised to create 20 lakh jobs and provide an unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000 per month. Now, after coming to power, he is citing financial constraints. With over four decades of political experience, was he unaware of the financial burden these promises entailed?' he questioned. He demanded that all vacant posts in government departments be filled immediately and a white paper be released on employment and livelihood plans for the youth. The AIYF also urged the government to declare Amaravati a free zone to ensure job opportunities are accessible to youth from all 26 districts of the state. Attempting to submit a memorandum, AIYF leaders were stopped by the police at the Collectorate gate, leading to a brief scuffle. The protest witnessed participation from several leaders, including AIYF city secretary Bisanna, AISF district president Somanna, AITUC city secretary Chandrasekhar, and AIYF members C Ramesh, Peddayya, Anjeet Goud, Raju, Jaffer Patel, Upendra, Nagaraju, Srikanth, Akhil, Kalakhar, Muniswamy, Ravi, Hussain Basha, Nageswara Rao, Babji, Shiva, Naveen, Prabhakar, and Kumaru.

Corporate schools turn education into business

Tirupati: Encashingthe aspirations of parents who dream of a bright future for their children, private schools, particularly corporate-run institutions, have turned education into a thriving business. Year after year, these schools are finding new ways to extract money from parents under the pretext of quality education, despite clear regulations in place. Allegations are mounting against several institutions for conducting arbitrary admissions and charging irregular fees. In Tirupati district, many schools have reportedly completed admissions for the 2025–26 academic year even before it has formally begun, collecting hefty amounts under various pretexts. Student unions and parent associations have pointed out that schools are offering early admission discounts only to later hike fees post-enrolment. Practices such as seat reservations under the name of 'advance booking' and the use of agents to lure parents have become widespread. Some institutions are allegedly conducting entrance exams in violation of norms and segregating students based on performance, creating psychological pressure on both students and parents. Claiming to offer premium coaching for competitive careers in engineering and medicine, schools are using these promises as justification to demand lakhs of rupees in fees. Despite the burden, many parents continue to prefer corporate schools, hoping their children will have better academic and career prospects. In turn, families are taking loans, mortgaging gold and cutting back on essential expenses to meet the rising costs. The financial strain doesn't stop at tuition fees. Parents are being forced to purchase school uniforms directly from the schools and buy additional textbooks beyond the government-prescribed curriculum – books that managements claim are essential for enhancing students' knowledge. These hidden costs further deepen the burden on families already struggling to keep up. AISF Tirupati district general secretary C Pravin Kumar accused corporate schools of turning education into a multimillion-rupee business even before the academic year has begun. He alleged that some institutions collected up to Rs 50,000 upfront for hostel accommodation, misleading parents with false assurances. He further claimed that corporate groups are running multiple institutions under a single licence, forming a powerful education mafia. Saying that despite repeated complaints to education department officials, little action has been taken, student unions and parents are now demanding strict government intervention to curb the unethical practices and stop the unchecked commercialisation of school education in the district.

‘Serious errors' in SSC evaluation a blot on the government, say student organisations

Leaders of student organisations have slammed the TDP-led coalition government for 'serious errors' in the evaluation of SSC answer sheets, and have accused it of failing the student community. All India Student Federation (AISF) State vice-president Sai Kumar said, in the haste to release the SSC results in record time and gain mileage out of it, the persons handling the evaluation task lost focus and delivered inaccurate results. He said, for the first time in history, as many as 66,363 students applied for re-evaluation and, out of them, over 11,000, who were earlier declared failed, now passed. Their percentage of marks also significantly increased. Stating that the inaccurate results caused immense disappointment to many students, he said there were reports of a few distraught students attempting suicide. Mr. Sai Kumar said it was unfortunate that despite such gross mistake, HRD Minister Nara Lokesh had not made any statement on the issue so far. Student Federation of India State president P. Rammohan Rao and secretary K. Prasanna Kumar accused the government of finding scapegoats in teachers for its own failures. They alleged that the authorities were in a hurry to commence Intermediate classes in favour of the corporate institutions. They said drifting from the usual practice of allocating 15 days' time for completion of evaluation, the government brought pressure on teachers to wind up in a week, leading to the errors. Citing examples, they said a student named Mokshitha secured 21 marks in Social Studies initially, but scored 84 after re-evaluation, another student from Bapatla scored 23 marks in Social Studies, but secured 96 after re-evaluation, and in Eluru, a student wrote a 14-page answer, but only eight pages were evaluated. Stating that the students suffered immensely due to the government's negligence, they demanded that action against teachers should be dropped and the re-evaluation fees collected from students should be refunded.
