AIUDF will fight 2026 assembly elections alone, says Jania MLA
1 2 Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has decided not to forge an alliance with any political party for the assembly elections to be held early next year and fight the battle of ballots alone. The organising secretary of the party and MLA of Jania assembly constituency, Hafiz Rafiqul Islam, said except the 2021 assembly elections, the party fought the previous three assembly elections alone. "Similarly, the party has decided to fight the ensuing elections alone, and party president Badruddin Ajmal has approved the decision," he added. However, he said the party will consider it later if any political party comes forward with a proposal of alliance. "AIUDF will not send any proposal for an alliance to any political party," he added. Islam, who is also a member of the 126-member legislative assembly, said the party will contest only 35 out of 126 seats. Since it will contest 35 seats, the party will step into the electoral battleground with new energy and full focus. "The party has a good position in the Bodoland Territorial Region at present, which indicates that we will be able to score well in the BTC elections," he added. He said, the party headquarters has received a number of applications seeking tickets for the BTC elections. "Regarding all these decisions of the executive meeting, which was held a few days ago, we met Badruddin Ajmal on Wednesday. He has given approval to the decisions," Islam added.

"BJP laid red carpet for Bengali Hindus from Bangladesh": AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam slams Assam govt
Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 1 (ANI): AIUDF MLA Rafiqul Islam on Tuesday launched an attack on the Assam government over their decision of issuing Aadhaar cards only from the District Commissioner's office and alleged that BJP has let Bangladeshi Hindus in Assam. Rafiqul Islam told ANI, 'There is not a single Muslim who is a foreigner in Assam. Muslims have documents in their hands. They have complete records. Their voter list, land records, and father-grandfather's papers of NRC.' Attacking the BJP, he added, 'For those, the BJP has laid a red carpet, are Bengali Hindus coming from Bangladesh. Those who are still coming, and after 1971, they have come in millions. The same people who obtain their Aadhaar cards illegally will now be caught. Those whom the BJP targets and wants to take to the DC office, they have papers and genuine records.' The AIUDF MLA further stated that the arrangements at the DC office should be made to prevent people from having to stand in long queues. 'The arrangements should be correct. People should not have to line up after going there, people should not have to travel there for two days, three days, four days.' On the eviction drive by the Assam government, he stated that the government is not evicting certain individuals, but rather those who are landless. 'The suspected people are not getting evicted. This is the government's false claim. Evictions are taking place against landless people. They also have 200-year-old records, 400-year-old records. They are moving bulldozers into the house of the Gwalparia people. They are Gwalaparia; their origin is Rajbanshi. The Rajbanshis are older than Hemant Biswa Sarma.' To ensure that no illegal immigrant obtains an Aadhaar card, the Assam government has decided to implement a rule where Aadhaar cards for adults will only be issued by the District Commissioners (DCs), Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday. He further said that the decision to tighten Aadhaar issuance rules would aid the state government's efforts to safeguard its demographic profile. 'Last night, we pushed back 20 more Bangladeshis as part of our ongoing efforts to detect and push back illegal infiltrators. Very soon, we will implement a decision where Aadhaar cards for adult citizens will be issued only by DCs. This will ensure that no illegal immigrant can get an Aadhaar made and we can track and push them back easily,' Himanta Biswa Sarma said. 'We will make a decision on it in the next Cabinet meeting,' the Assam Chief Minister added. The tea plantation workers are an exception under the new Aadhaar card issuance policy. (ANI)

Two more held in Assam for 'anti-Hindu' posts on social media, says CM Sarma
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday that the Assam Police have arrested two more persons for their alleged role in posting objectionable content against Hindu religion on social media platforms. The two persons who have been arrested are identified as Anisur Rehman and Farijul Islam. Rehman was arrested in the Tinsukia district while Islam was nabbed by the police from the Nagaon district. Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma wrote, "Crackdown on Anti-Hindu elements continues. @TinsukiaPolice arrested Md Anisur Rehman for sharing an objectionable content on Hinduism. @nagaonpolice arrested Farijul Islam for a derogatory comment on Lord Ram." "Ninety-seven anti-national and anti-Hindu culprits behind bars now," he added. Among the 97 arrested people, the most prominent is the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Aminul Islam. He was the first person to be arrested in the state for the "pro-Pakistan" stance. Aminul Islam, an AIUDF MLA from Assam's Dhing Assembly constituency, was arrested on May 1 on sedition charges following his provocative statement regarding the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. In a video clip circulated on social media, the AIUDF leader is heard claiming that the Pahalgam and Pulwama attacks were part of a "government conspiracy". Aminul Islam said, "Six years ago in Pulwama, when the RDX blast happened and 42 soldiers died, I said on that day that the Pulwama blast happened at the behest of a conspiracy of the Central government, and it was a conspiracy to win the 2019 Lok Sabha polls." He added that what happened in Pahalgam is that the "BJP has been peddling that the terrorists asked about religion and opened fire only on Hindus, and they let go of Muslims". "But the victims said that the terrorists opened fire without asking about anybody's name, and I doubt that the nexus which was involved in the Pulwama attack in which RDX was used, is behind the Pahalgam incident," he said. "If the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government does not conduct a fair investigation into the incident and tries to bring a division between Hindus and Muslims, I would believe that this incident happened because of a conspiracy," he added. However, the AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal distanced himself from his party legislator's comments. Ajmal said, "AIUDF stands with the government. The terrorists have no religion, and those who spread terrorism are against Islam."

97 'anti-nationals' arrested post Pahalgam terror attack in Assam: Himanta
Two people have been arrested for allegedly being "anti-Hindu" from different parts of Assam following the Pahalgam terror attack, taking the total number of arrests to 97 so far, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Monday (June 23, 2025). In a post on X, Mr. Sarma said one person each was apprehended from Tinsukia and Nagaon districts. Earlier, Opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam was arrested on sedition charges for allegedly defending Pakistan and its complicity in the Pahalgam terror attack. After getting bail in the case, Islam was again detained under the National Security Act (NSA). On May 2, Mr. Sarma threatened to break the legs of those who raised the 'Pakistan zindabad' slogan in the aftermath of the Jammu and Kashmir terror attack. Addressing a campaign rally for the panchayat elections, he had appealed to the people to pray and give strength to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian Army so that Pakistani terrorists hiding anywhere in the world can be brought for "breaking their legs". Terrorists struck a prime tourist location in Pahalgam in south Kashmir on April 22 killing 26 people, mostly tourists, and injuring several others.
