Rajendra Sonia turmeric sees huge surge in demand

1 2 3 4 Patna: A variety of turmeric, 'Rajendra Sonia', developed by Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University (RPCAU)-Pusa, is witnessing a huge surge in demand nationwide because of its high curcumin content. Significantly, this particular variety of turmeric contains a high curcumin content, ranging from 6% to 8.5%, making it a much sought-after commodity for its medicinal properties. Curcumin, a key component of turmeric, is known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. According to the agricultural scientists, its high concentration in 'Rajendra Sonia' makes it an attractive option for various applications, including pharmaceutical and food industries. RPCAU's vice-chancellor P S Pandey told this newspaper that the demand for 'Rajendra Sonia' turmeric is increasing across states, with many institutions and organisations seeking to cultivate it locally. The variety's high quality and certified curcumin content have contributed to its growing popularity. "The university's efforts to promote 'Rajendra Sonia' turmeric are expected to benefit the farmers significantly. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like AirSense 11 – Smart tech for deep sleep ResMed Buy Now Undo With the GI tagging of specific products, including Shahi litchi and Madhubani paintings, farmers can expect higher prices for their produce. RPCAU's scientist A K Mishra reported that the institution has sold over 347 quintals of 'Rajendra Sonia' turmeric seeds to institutions and organisations in several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. "The university has also distributed 130 quintals of Rajendra Sonia turmeric seeds to the farmers in the state, enabling them to cultivate and sell the crop at a higher price. This initiative is expected to boost the income of farmers and promote the cultivation of high-quality turmeric in the region," Mishra added.

Nagaland party RPP claims Centre's representative AK Mishra gives false hopes to people

File photo KOHIMA: The Rising People's Party (RPP) on Friday alleged that the Centre's interlocutor for Naga talks, A K Mishra, has nothing to offer to the people except to raise false hope. The party also described his frequent visits to Nagaland as "entirely fruitless" and a "waste of taxpayers' money". "An astute person like him should excuse himself from making monthly trips to the state just to excite some gullible minds, because neither he nor the government of India has any intention of resolving the Naga issue," the party said. The RRP's statement came a day after Mishra held a joint meeting with representatives of Naga political groups in Nagaland's Chumoukedima. The meeting brought together two factions of the Working Committee of the NNPGs - one led by N Kitovi Zhimomi and the other by Neokpao Konyak and Alezo Venuh. Mishra is also expected to meet with representatives of the NSCN (K) Niki group during his visit. "Once again, the factions may be excited, but the general public is merely amused," the RRP added. The RPP also accused former interlocutor and ex-Nagaland Governor RN Ravi of creating fissures with the Nagas by "throwing the Framework Agreement into the dustbin" and causing the signing of the Agreed Position pact. The government had inked the Framework Agreement with NSCN(IM) in 2015 and the Agreed Position pact with the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) two years later.

Meitei groups seek NRC, free movement for all at meet with MHA officials

A delegation of 19 representatives from three Manipur valley-based civil society organisations met with officials from the Union Home Ministry in Delhi Monday in continuation with previous rounds of talks with these groups. This was the first time that representatives of all three major groups – COCOMI, AMUCO and FOCS – representing Meitei interests met with MHA officials together in Delhi. The Home Ministry team the delegation met was led by the ministry's North East Advisor A K Mishra and IB Joint Director Rajesh Kamble. In a joint statement, they outlined key issues that they raised in the meeting. It stated that it 'reaffirmed its non-compromising stance on any initiative that could undermine the territorial integrity of the state,' a stance that is in opposition to the demand by Kuki-Zo groups for a 'separate administration' system for parts of the state where their community is in the majority. 'The delegation pressed for the urgent need to ensure free movement for all, emphasising that it is not only a fundamental right and a constitutional obligation of the government, but also the first essential step towards restoring peace in the state,' they said in their statement. Since the start of the conflict in May 2023, members of either conflicting community have largely not travelled in areas where the other community is in majority. The opening up of the state's highways by all communities has also been contentious with Kuki-Zo groups expressing hesitation to agree to this without discussion on their political demands. They emphasised two other long-standing demands. First, that a National Register of Citizens (NRC) be implemented in the state or a similar mechanism 'to address the issue of illegal immigration', which they have held to be the key reason for volatility in the region. The other is opposition to extension of Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreements with Kuki-Zo insurgent groups 'without a prior comprehensive and amicable understanding among all stakeholders within the state.' Last month, Kuki-Zo representatives had resolved that dialogues with the Government of India on behalf of the community would only be done by the SoO groups and talks are underway between these groups and the Union government on reviewing the ground rules of the SoO agreements. 'The MHA officials assured the delegation that the matters raised are being seriously considered and will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for necessary action and approvals..,' the joint statement by the delegation said.

‘No extension without consensus': Manipur groups tell Centre in Delhi talks

NEW DELHI: Three civil society organisations from Manipur, including Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), held a round of dialogue with Centre's representatives led by interlocutor A K Mishra here on Monday, seeking preservation of territorial integrity of the state, steps to ensure free movement of people and phased resettlement of people displaced by ethnic violence by the end of this year. The three Meitei-dominated groups, COCOMI, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) and Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), also sought implementation of a national register of citizens (NRC) or a similar mechanism in Manipur to 'effectively address the issue of illegal migration'. Concerns over the home ministry's recent directive to detect illegal immigrants within a 30-day timeframe was discussed, and need for proper mechanisms and safeguards emphasised. The 19-member delegation comprising representatives of COCOMI, AMUCO and FOCS told the advisor (northeast) Mishra, who was assisted by IB and MHA officials, to formulate a phased and time-bound roadmap to address the ethnic tensions in Manipur and find lasting and sustainable solutions. The Manipur outfits conveyed their clear stance against any extension of suspension of operations (SOO) agreements without a prior comprehensive and amicable understanding among all stakeholders in the state, as per a statement put out by COCOMI after the talks. They particularly raised concerns regarding security and safety of farmers who own land in peripheral areas of the Imphal Valley. Such areas have seen ethnic clashes in the past. The delegation said it had conveyed its willingness to be part of future meetings with all stakeholders, provided such initiatives serve the larger interest of restoring lasting peace and normalcy in Manipur. They also sought the future rounds of dialogue to be held in Imphal. Among the other issues raised were release of the long-pending report on the Gwaltabi incident, which involved security forces covering the Manipur's name on a bus. A detailed report on the construction of a 343 km-long illegal road along the Churachandpur-Kangpokpi axis was submitted for investigation and intervention. The MHA officials, as per COCOMI, assured the delegation that the matters raised by are being seriously considered and shall be forwarded to the appropriate authorities for action and approvals.
