They offer enhanced battery life, smarter multitasking, and advanced features like noise cancellation and real-time automation, making them ideal for professionals, students, and creators seeking a future-proof device. An AI processor, or NPU, handles artificial intelligence workloads separately from the CPU and GPU. This offloads tasks like voice recognition, background noise filtering, and image processing, resulting in smoother multitasking, improved battery efficiency, and a more responsive user experience overall. Look for a laptop with a dedicated NPU, at least 16GB RAM, a fast SSD, and a high-quality display with good battery life. Additional features like AI-enhanced cameras, noise cancellation, and efficient cooling systems further enhance productivity and user comfort for work, study, or creative projects. Look for a laptop with a dedicated AI processor or NPU to power efficient, intelligent features. Choose at least 16GB RAM and a fast SSD for smooth multitasking and quick access to your files. Consider a model with strong integrated or dedicated graphics for creative or gaming AI tasks. Prioritise a laptop with long battery life to keep up with demanding AI workloads. Opt for a high-quality display and a sturdy, lightweight build for comfort and portability. I tried the Acer Swift X 14 and it may be the creator laptop to beat — and the RTX 5070 GPU isn't why

Acer has plenty of innovative devices to show off this year, including its FreeSense smart ring and AI translation earbuds, but one thing that I didn't expect to catch my eye is its new lineup of premium creator laptops. Coming in two flavors, the latest Acer Swift X 14 (2025) laptops first drew me in with their impressive slate of specs, including the selection of AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 or Intel Core Ultra 9 285 CPUs, RTX 5070 GPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 2TB for storage. Oh, and that stunning 14.5-inch 3K (2880x1800) OLED touchscreen is a welcome sight. For creators and even gamers, what's not to like? But it wasn't until I tried out the Swift X 14 that I realized it offers more than just powerful internals. This laptop boasts a nifty trick right on its touchpad that many designers, photo editors, artists and even doodlers will appreciate. Revealed at Computex 2025, Both Swift X 14 models come with a large haptic touchpad that supports a stylus. It's a simple idea, but one that goes a long way when drawing or editing images in Photoshop, designing 3D models or creating a masterpiece in Microsoft Paint. We've seen many laptops with brilliant creator-friendly tools, like the Asus ProArt P16 and its handy DialPad, but the Swift X 14 evolves the touchpad for new ways to create — effectively turning it into a canvas. With the power it packs, could it be in the running for one of the best laptops for video editing? Possibly, but after my brief hands-on, it's certainly one for creators to keep an eye on. Acer Swift X 14 Acer Swift X 14 AI Starting price €1,799 €1,799 Display 14.5-inch 3K (2880x1800) OLED touchscreen 14.5-inch 3K (2880x1800) OLED touchscreen CPU Up to Intel Core Ultra 9 285 Up to AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Memory Up to 32GB Up to 32GB Storage Up to 1 TB SSD Up to 1 TB SSD Webcam 1080p w/ IR 1080p w/ IR Ports 2x Thunderbolt 4, 2x USB-A, HDMI, MicroSD 2x USB-C, 2x USB-A, HDMI, MicroSD, headphone jack Size 12.69 x 8.95 x 0.71 in 12.69 x 8.95 x 0.71 in Weight 3.48 lbs 3.46 lbs Let's get this out of the way; Acer's creator-focused laptop comes in two models — the Acer Swift X 14 and Swift X 14 AI. The only real difference between the two is that the former sports an Intel chip while the latter with an "AI" moniker comes with AMD. Otherwise, you're getting the same sleek, minimalist laptop no matter what you choose. More importantly, both laptops come with sizable haptic touchpads with Corning Gorilla Glass and MPP 2.5 tilt-enables stylus support. While I used Acer's own stylus during my time with the Swift X 14, it means any stylus can be used on the laptop's touchpad. Being able to choose your own digital pencil is always a welcome option. Once I put pen to, er, touchpad in Paint, it felt extremely smooth to glide over the surface to draw a line. But once I lifted the stylus off, I realized I had completely lost track of where the cursor was to continue my drawing. "Well, that's a massive oversight," I thought, as not being able know where the cursor will be placed on screen as you draw on the touchpad defeats the purpose of sketching anything. However, this wasn't the case. By hovering the stylus over the touchpad, you can see where the cursor is onscreen and drag it to where you want. This way, I could pinpoint where I wanted to draw, only touching the touchpad's surface with the tip of the stylus when I want to input an action. It's not the same as directly drawing on a touchscreen (which the Swift X 14 doesn't offer due to the screen only supporting finger-based touch), so it took me some time to get used to it. But once I got the hang of it, I could easily doodle a quick smiley face. Interestingly, this isn't the only Acer laptop arriving that supports a stylus on its haptic touchpad. Just like the Acer Predator Triton 14 AI, the haptics delivered tactile feedback so I knew when something was being pressed down. I couldn't imagine using this method to jot down notes, as it isn't intuitive enough since I had to keep adjusting the cursor via the touchpad. But I can imagine this would come in handy for sketching or touching up images in apps, thanks to the accuracy and smooth precision the touchpad offers with the stylus. As with the Acer Swift 14 AI I reviewed, the company has nailed the lightweight design with its Swift lineup, and that's no different for the new Swift X 14 laptops. However, these latest creator laptops take it up a notch with a unique feature that designers can utilize. Compared to the previous Swift X 14 sporting an RTX 4050, Acer delivers a significant graphics boost with its latest creator laptop. Now that it boasts up to an RTX 5070 (with the latest Nvidia Studio Drivers right out the box), you can expect faster AI-driven tasks when video editing and make the most out of bringing photos to like in apps like Photoshop. As we've tested, an RTX 50-series GPU can do wonders for content creation, and having that sort of power in a creator-focused laptop means the graphics card can be used for more than just gaming. I wasn't able to test its abilities during my time with the Swift X 14 (Microsoft Paint isn't exactly demanding...), but considering it can also access DLSS 4 for accelerated graphics processing, power users will get a kick out of its speed. One feature that's yet to be tested is Nvidia's NIM (Nvidia Inference Microservices) through its Project R2X, letting users build AI agents and streamline workflows in various programs. That includes creator-focused apps, meaning it can be used as a guide to work out how to edit a background in a photo or used to autonomously work through video editing tasks. How will this perform on Acer's Swift X 14? It's still up in the air, but once we get to test this laptop out, we'll get a better gauge on how it all works. The Acer Swift X 14 and 14 AI are set to be available this July in Europe, with prices starting at €1,799. There's no word of official release dates or prices for the rest of the world (tariffs may be to blame), but if RTX 50-series gaming laptop prices are anything to go by, expect the laptops to be around the $1,999 / £1,999. I still need more time to try it out, but once I got the hang of navigating the stylus around its touchpad, I was drawing away with ease. For now, it looks like the Swift X 14 and 14 AI are already looking to be a great shout for those creators on the go. Only getting to grips with drawing with tech? You'll want to try out this Meta Quest VR app that taught me how to draw.

HP OmniBook 7 Aero review: Powerful computing and value, in a compact package

There is a certain charm about slim, lightweight and compact laptops. We've lost some of that troika, particularly with larger screen sizes becoming par for course with recent launches, taking away that compactness. One look at the HP OmniBook 7 Aero, and it is an easy reminder of the HP Dragonfly laptops from a few years ago. It is good to have the 13.3-inch display as an option, at a time when 14-inch and large display real estate is becoming the norm. More isn't always better, when you're lugging a computing device in your backpack, particularly during travel. HP has done well to realign this OmniBook series, making it consumer focused and fully in line with the 'next-gen AI PC' or 'Copilot+ PC' capabilities. That's thanks to the AMD Ryzen AI neural processing unit capable of 50 TOPS, or trillion operations per second. In a form factor that weighs less than 1kg (less than the 1.24kg of the MacBook Air, widely regarded as the thin and light benchmark), the baseline specs include the latest generation AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 chip with 16GB memory, a 512GB solid-state drive, AMD Radeon 860M graphics and HP's complete layering of AI functionality over and above everything Microsoft has embedded into Windows as part of the Copilot proposition. That specifically may or may not hold value for you, but you would do well to consider this machine for the future-proofed specs. We draw that inference from the performance of the HP OmniBook 7 Aero, which absolutely doesn't seem to be holding back despite having a significantly lower price tag (its ₹87,499 onwards) than most laptops bucketed as 'next-gen AI PC' or 'Copilot+ PC'. This has more than enough performance headroom for usage scenarios that you'd deploy this for at work and at home. We did test this with some typical work laptop multitasking scenarios, and the HP OmniBook 7 Aero holds the speediness of response, without any stutter. In itself, that's the OmniBook 7 Aero's biggest strength. The only noticeable change at this time would be the perceptible heating on the underside of the laptop — the don't keep it on your lap levels of heat, and ideal to have a cooling pad on the desk. Just as an added layer of care, we would recommend heading to the MyHP app preloaded on the laptop, and enable Smart Sense — that's again an AI layered performance management feature that will switch the machine between different modes, depending on usage. Then there is of course the HP AI Companion, which does have some smart tricks up its sleeve — we have covered this in detail in our review of the HP EliteBook X G1a. HP has kept feature parity across its AI PCs, and this is underlined by OpenAI's GPT models, though HP doesn't specify which ones are in play. With so much power being delivered when needed, it is creditable that the HP OmniBook 7 Aero, fully charged as we began a workday, still ends up with about 40% charge remaining at the end of the day. That would translate to close to 13 hours of battery life on a single charge, with some care regarding screen brightness and apps running in the background. For a compact laptop, this may not be the highest numbers ever (the MacBook Air, and indeed some of Qualcomm's new chips deliver much more), but still good enough to conveniently leave the power adapter behind. And you will certainly want to do that, because unlike Apple and even Asus, HP has still clung to a bulky brick that can only be classified as antiquated. It is important to touch on the ports that are available on the OmniBook 7 Aero. There are two USB-A ports of which one is rated at 10 Gbps while the other is 5 Gbps, two USB-C ports topping out at 10 Gbps, an HDMI 2.1 and an audio-out jack. That, pegged against the MacBook Air which doesn't have any USB-A port or an HDMI, is in a good place. A question that must be asked at this point is — despite all the AI to improve the video call experience, shouldn't HP have thought of moving beyond a 5-megapixel webcam? A better hardware baseline would allow the Poly Camera Pro functionality to really shine through. The one thing I am still getting used to with the OmniBook 7 Aero is its weight distribution, which for an ultra-lightweight machine, is quite unique. The centre of gravity seems to be in the middle, and not around the edges as you'd pick this up — most laptops tend to be top heavy, owing to battery placement. Think of this as a computing equivalent of a mid-engined sports car. And even beyond that, there is pristine delivery of performance through different usage scenarios, and battery life that's certainly long enough and consistent enough, to allow you to leave that bulky adapter at home or in the drawer beneath your office desk. Despite ticking off all the boxes on a decidedly premium checklist, perhaps the most exciting thing about the HP OmniBook 7 Aero is its price. And that'll define value.

Computex 2025: Acer announces new Aspire 14 and 16 AI Copilot+ PCs — student laptops that pack a punch

Computex 2025 is kicking off, and Acer has a whole lineup of laptops, monitors and more to reveal at the event — including all-new Aspire 14 and 16 AI Copilot+ PCs. Acer announced six new 14-inch and 16-inch Aspire laptops, with several configurations that include the latest Intel Core Ultra Series 2, AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series and Snapdragon X Series processors. With AI CPUs onboard, these Copilot+ PCs will arrive with the latest AI features, such as Click to Do, Recall (in preview), improved Windows Search and Acer's own suite of AI apps, such as AcerSense, LiveArt 2.0 and more. Set to be at "pocket-friendly" prices, the Aspire 14 and 16 AI notebooks are geared toward students and professionals, with thin, lightweight designs so they can be moved around with ease. Plus, you can expect 120Hz displays with 180-degree hinges, and they even come in glorious OLED. Prices start at €899/AUD$1,399 (around $999/£799), with the first set of Aspire AI laptops being available in select regions this June. Will the best contenders as the best laptops for students? Judging by their specs, they certainly stand a chance. Acer Aspire 14 AI Acer Aspire 16 AI Price From €899/AUD$1,399 (around $999/£799) From €999/AUD$1,499 (around $1,099/£899) CPU Up to Intel Core Ultra 7 258V / AMD Ryzen AI 7 35 / Snapdragon X X1-26-100 Up to Intel Core Ultra 7 258V / AMD Ryzen AI 7 35 / Snapdragon X X1-26-100 GPU Up to Intel Arc 140V / AMD Radeon 86M / Qualcomm Adreno Up to Intel Arc 140V / AMD Radeon 86M / Qualcomm Adreno Display Up to 16-inch WUXGA+ (2048 x 1280) OLED, 120Hz, 16:10 Up to 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) OLED, 120Hz, 16:10 Memory Up to 32GB DDR5X RAM Up to 32GB DDR5X RAM Storage Up to 1TB PCIe Gen4 Up to 1TB PCIe Gen4 Battery 65Wh 65Wh Ports 2x Thunderbolt 4/USB4, 2x USB-A 3.2, HDMI 2.1, microSD card reader, 3.5mm audio jack 2x Thunderbolt 4/USB4, 2x USB-A 3.2, HDMI 2.1, microSD card reader, 3.5mm audio jack Connectivity Up to Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 Up to Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 Size 12.28 x 8.89 x 0.63 inches 13.97 x9.85 x 0.63 inches Weight 2.73 pounds 3.75 pounds The 14-inch laptop is becoming a popular sizes for students or workers, probably because they offer that blend of a sizeable enough display along with relative portability. The new Acer Aspire 14 AI looks to fit into that description and be a great pick for those on the move. Thanks to its varied CPUs, this notebook range aims to deliver plenty of performance and battery life. The Intel model boasts up to a Core Ultra 7 258V CPU and Intel Arc 140V for graphics, making it a speedy machine that can even do a little 1080p gaming and medium settings on the side. This configuration also comes with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Interestingly, thanks to its 65Wh battery, it claims to last over 26 hours with video playback! As for the AMD configuration, expect up to an AMD Ryzen AI 7 35 CPU and integrated AMD Radeon 86M graphics. This is based on Zen 5 architecture, so expect this machine to also pack great performance. According to specs, this is a step down in connectivity, as it brings Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 instead. Apparently, it also lasts over 18 hours on video playback, so not as good of a deal compared to Intel. Lastly, the Snapdragon variant delivers Snapdragon X performance at both the CPU (Oryon), GPU (Adreno) and NPU (Hexagon) level. You can also expect Wi-Fi 7 here, but with Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. However, this Aspire 14 AI is the most affordable of the bunch. Snapdragon X-equipped Acer Aspire 14 AI laptops start at €899 / AUD$1,399 (around $999 / £799) with availability in June, with the Intel and AMD configurations available for €999 / AUD$1,499 (around $1,099 / £899) in July. Otherwise, these laptops match the design and portable appeal of its predecessors (like the Acer Aspire Go 15), but with upgraded specs and bigger, stylish designs. Plus, it offers up to a 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio. So far, these laptops could make for excellent additions in our best business laptops and Windows laptops guides. Of course, we'll have to get some hands-on time with them to see if they work as well on paper. Are there any big differences in the Acer Aspire 16 AI laptop? Not really, aside from the larger 16-inch WUXGA+ (2048 x 1280) OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio. More screen real estate and better resolution — similar to the MacBook Air M4 13-inch and Air M4 15-inch models. The 16-inch laptop is set to arrive later than the Aspire 14, and is priced slightly higher. Again, the Snapdragon configuration offers more value, available from €999 / AUD$1,499 (around $1,099 / £899) in July. Both the Intel and AMD models start at €1,099 / AUD$1,499 (around $1,199 / £999), and will be available in August. There will be plenty more on show at Computex 2025, and we'll be on the floor to fill you in all there is to know — including a possible laptop CPU from Nvidia and MediaTek.

32GB LPDDR5X RAM 1TB PCIe 4 SSD 2 USB Type-C 10Gbps(PD、DP 2.1) 1 USB Type-A 10Gbps 1 USB Type-A 5Gbps 1 HDMI 2.1 1 headphone/microphone combo 31.3 x 21.85 x 1.46 cm 16GB LPDDR5X RAM 512GB PCIe 4 SSD 2 USB Type-C 10Gbps(PD、DP 2.1) 1 USB Type-A 10Gbps 1 USB Type-A 5Gbps 1 HDMI 2.1 1 headphone/microphone combo 29.73 x 21.12 x 1.65 cm (front); 29.73 x 21.12 x 1.74 cm (rear)
