With six months until Christmas, it's time to start saving!
Yes, that's right - it's exactly six months until Christmas! But have you started saving your pennies or planning that magical trip to see Santa? If not, don't worry! Jordon Cox is live from Chessington with some fantastic festive deals to help you get ahead of the Christmas chaos. Advertisement. We earn commission from some links on this page. When you click on a link, our affiliate partner sets cookies - you can opt out here. Our full disclosure notice is here. Prices correct at time of publication. SAVE £4 A DAY FOR CHRISTMAS Households spend on average between £660-£1150 each year on Christmas festivities. If you can put away just £4 a day, or £28 a week and you do this consistently for 24 weeks which takes you to the start of December. You'll have £672, this should cover most if not all of your Christmas shopping including food, drinks and gifts. So if you can set a reminder each day, or even a standing order to move some money from your current account to a separate savings account, you'll reach your goal. SAVING POTS Whenever you find a deal on something, use a restaurant voucher or use a discount code online. The savings that you make - put it directly into your savings. If a pair of shoes you're buying online cost £50, but you had a code getting £10 off, and only paid £40 take £10 out of your current account and put it into a separate savings pot. This is the money that would have gone to the company you're buying from if you didn't have a code, but instead is staying in your own pocket. Jordon did this for a whole year, and by the end, had nearly £2,000 extra in the bank. ASDA CHRISTMAS SAVINGS CARD If you know you'll be doing your Christmas shopping at Asda, there's an offer on until Sunday 29th June to get free cash to spend. Head onto the Asda Rewards app and click on the Christmas Savings Card on the home screen. If you deposit £60 or more onto the card, you'll get a bonus £6 free to use on your shopping. This money you deposit will be locked away until the Christmas period, so make sure it's money that you don't need right now. It's basically £6 free, which is a very high return VS other supermarkets. CHRISTMAS DEALS: CHRISTMAS MARKET TRIPS FROM £79 - BRUGES COACH TRIP & MYSTERY CHRISTMAS MARKET Wowcher has a few different deals, one of them is a coach trip to Bruges, picking up from several stops in London and Kent. It costs £79pp for a day trip to the Bruges markets, and back again in one day - and departs on several selected dates from 22nd November to 21st December. You'll have to pay an admin charge of £4 when booking too. You can also get a Mystery Holiday Christmas market trip for £99pp. You won't know where you're going, and the company will book everything for you, including flights from your local airport and a 2 night stay in a hotel. You have to purchase a minimum of 2 people, and it has a £7.99 admin fee. CHRISTMAS TREES & DECORATIONS Buying things off season is typically a good way to save money. In December, demand is going to be very high, so there may be less reason for companies to offer deals and discounts. Whereas right now, you can find a lot of Christmas stock still online and either discounted or on clearance at decent prices. So if you order things now, you can shove it all in the attic and forget about it until December, taking a bit of stress away, and there's less money you have to pay in 6 months' time. On the Debenhams website, there were a lot of discounted trees that you can have delivered in their Christmas sale. 6ft artificial tree with a stand is 70% off at £23.99 (usual price £79.99). 7ft flocked Christmas tree with a stand is usually £139.99, but is discounted to £59.99. 2 baubles for 50p and a small 3ft Christmas tree for £4 which can be delivered or collected in store. If you head to Leon today and wear a Christmas jumper, and say the phrase 'I'm here to speak with Santa' - you can get a free main meal (up to £9). You have to get there and order before 3pm, it's valid today (Wednesday 25th only). Not valid at airports, train stations or motorways.

Oil prices hit six month high amid supply fears triggered by US attacks on Iran

Brent crude surged to as high as $81.40 (£60.50) a barrel in early morning trading before dipping back to $76.76 (£57.05) in the early afternoon. 1 Analysts say crude prices would rocket if Iran blocks oil being shipped through the key Strait of Hormuz Credit: Reuters Analysts say crude prices would rocket if Iran blocks oil being shipped through the key Strait of Hormuz, but so far it has failed to act on its threat. Experts from Panmure Liberum said closing the strait could disrupt about a fifth of global oil and gas shipments. They added that the result could be worse than the oil and gas shock in 2022 after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The cost of oil has risen sharply since the recent Israel strikes on Iran's nuclear sites, with the US launching an aerial bombing on three facilities over the weekend. Soaring prices would have a knock-on effect for UK households, both at the petrol pumps and through hikes from energy firms forced to pay more for oil imports.
