Manchester United's antics abroad raise questions about Asia tours
SEOUL -- The practice of famous European soccer clubs playing summer exhibition matches in Asia is showing no signs of slowing as the promise of new revenue streams, new fans and sponsors outstrip the potential pitfalls that exist in changing markets. A tired United was reportedly paid an appearance fee of around $13 million for two games, the first in Malaysia and then Hong Kong two days later.

Relief for India as eight players get Hong Kong visas after 15-day wait
Liston Colaco tries to work his way past Thailand during an international friendly at the Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani on Wednesday Panaji: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) heaved a sigh of relief as eight national team players were granted visas to travel to Hong Kong, after waiting for more than two weeks. India play Hong Kong in a crucial AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier on June 10. Indian passport holders can travel to Hong Kong visa-free for up to 14 days but a pre-arrival registration form must be filled online before landing in the country. According to sources, the AIFF applied online for the pre-arrival registration on May 18 with a majority of the 28 players and 14 officials getting their applications cleared in quick time. On May 28, the team was scheduled to travel to Thailand for an international friendly, and they did with eight players, including captain Sandesh Jhingan, unsure about making the onward trip to Hong Kong. 'The applications kept coming back for eight players and we didn't know what to do,' said a senior AIFF official. 'We wrote to the ministry of external affairs and then the President (Kalyan Chaubey) had to speak with the concerned ministries to ensure that all players got the visas.' The visas for the eight players which included Jhingan, Amrinder Singh, Subhashish Bose, Manvir Singh, Ashish Rai, Anwar Ali, Gurmeet Singh and Mehtab Singh were finally issued on Tuesday, 15 days after their first application. Thailand cruise past India India were left with plenty of work to do for next week's all-important qualifier against Hong Kong after losing the friendly 2-0 against Thailand at the Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani on Wednesday. Benjamin Davis (8') and Poramet Arjvilai (59') scored in either half for Thailand as the hosts capitalised on the space and time that was afforded to them by India's defence. Davis, who featured for ASEAN All-Stars against Manchester United in a friendly last week, picked the top corner from inside the box, while Arjvilai saw goalkeeper Vishal Kaith slightly off his line and made no mistake with a shot that dipped perfectly. India gradually grew into the game and created chances of their own. Sunil Chhetri sliced through the Thailand defence with a perfect ball for Liston Colaco in first-half stoppage time, but the forward could not get past the goalkeeper from a one-to-one position. All through the game, Indian players got themselves into decent positions but lacked the finishing touch with Liston, Chhetri, Ashique Kuruniyan and Lallianzuala Chhangte all going close from inside the box. India now travel to Hong Kong on Thursday for their crucial AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 final round qualifier on June 10.

Man Utd's new third kit leaked as fans blast: 'You couldn't pay me to wear it'
Adidas' attempt to recreate a classic Manchester United strip for the 2025/26 season has not gone down well with supporters, who have slammed the black and yellow kit Manchester United have hit rock bottom after ending a miserable season – and now their leaked new kit is being slammed by fans. United ended their 2024/25 campaign 15th in the Premier League and without any European football to look forward to after tasting defeat in the Europa League final. Ruben Amorim's side then added some more embarrassment by losing to an ASEAN All-Stars side in Kuala Lumpur during an all-advised post-season tour. The atmosphere around the club hasn't been helped by Sir Jim Ratcliffe's job-cutting crusade ahead of a summer transfer window which could see a huge number of players leave. To make matters worse, United's kits for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign have been leaked on social media. Kit manufacturer Adidas have created a third kit comprised of black, yellow and blue, which – as is the way these days – harks back to happier times. The apparent third strip that Amorim's players will be wearing next season is an attempt to recall the era of Eric Cantona and co from 1993 to 1995. The new version doesn't have a collar and has Snapdragon as the front-of-shirt sponsor, but it is a close copy of the original Umbro version. Needless to say, it hasn't gone down well with all United fans. 'The worst shirt I've ever seen, couldn't pay me to wear it,' one furious supporter wrote on social media. 'Third shirt for what? We ain't in Europe,' another pointed out. 'United slowly losing its identity,' a third wrote, while another simply concluded: 'F****** ugly.' HAVE YOUR SAY! What do you make of the leaked kit? Comment below. However, it wasn't all bad, with some fans liking the retro throwback. 'This is so so good,' one wrote. 'Is this legit!? Looks class,' another added. Another wrote: 'Monochrome badge brings it down to a 9/10 rather than a 10/10.' The leaked home shirt looks pretty straightforward: a red number with black and white touches, while the away shirt is a bold all-white effort. It will be some time until fans see players wearing them, with United taking a not-so well-earned break after the tour of Malaysia and Hong Kong. The club are not involved in this summer's Club World Cup, so will take some time off before reconvening for pre-season. United begin their pre-season against Leeds in Stockholm on July 19 before flying over to the Untied States for games against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton. They then return to Old Trafford to play Fiorentina on August 9 before the Premier League begins again on August 16. What's for certain is that it will be a dramatically different United squad next season, with the club overhauling things in the transfer window. Matheus Cunha is set to be the first arrival of the summer window after United agreed to pay Wolves his £62.5million release clause, while Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is another target.

[Watch] Man United's New Bad Boys: David Beckham Calls Out Young Stars' Fan Fiasco In Malaysia
Subscribe to our FREE Manchester United's post-season tour in Asia has spiralled into a middle-finger fiesta, with club legend David Beckham stepping in to read the riot act to the team's young troublemakers. The drama kicked off when Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho, United's rising stars, were caught flipping the bird at fans during their stop in Kuala Lumpur. Making matters worse, the team managed to lose to the ASEAN All-Stars, adding insult to, well, insult. Beckham, never one to mince words when it comes to United's reputation, didn't hold back: 'Players are not acting in the right manner,' he said, clearly unimpressed with the youngsters' antics. Coming from a man who won six Premier League titles with United, that's got to sting. Middle Finger & Mother Issues Diallo, caught giving the middle finger not once but three times, tried to justify his actions on social media, claiming fans had insulted his mother. 'I shouldn't have reacted like that, but I don't regret what I did,' he posted on X. The excuse fell flat with Malaysian fans, who pointed out that in Malaysian culture, insulting someone's mother is considered highly taboo and culturally unthinkable, especially in a public setting like a football match. Many local supporters criticised Diallo's statement as a convenient cover-up, noting that Malaysian fans are renowned for their hospitality and respect toward visiting teams, making his claim particularly hard to believe. tak payah dah la nak minat kelab sampah tu. buat rosak nama Malaysia je. bila masa tah org panggil dia diallo + hina mak dia. kau tu turun2 bas terus tunjuk jari fuck. — Irfan.H (@irfanhazim97) Meanwhile, Garnacho was spotted not just flipping off fans but also shoving one after the embarrassing defeat. The whole mess unfolded during United's 6,678-km round-trip to Malaysia and Hong Kong, a tour that probably seemed like a good idea on paper but ultimately turned into a PR disaster. The team even managed to need a comeback against Hong Kong's national side after losing to the Southeast Asian all-stars. Fans Pay Big Money For The Bird The incident has led to a heated debate about player conduct, fan behaviour, and what it means to wear the United badge. Local fans, some of whom reportedly paid RM1,500 for tickets, weren't thrilled about getting the finger instead of autographs. 'Paid RM1,500 to get the middle finger. Why Amad, why?' one disappointed supporter posted. For now, the club hasn't officially responded to the incidents, but with Beckham's public criticism and growing fan outrage, it's likely this won't be the last we hear of United's Asian tour fiasco.
