Performing ASEAN 2025 theme song a career highlight for Aina Abdul
KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Aina Abdul described the opportunity to record the theme song for the ASEAN Summit 2025, 'Our Land Our Home' — centered on the theme of unity — as a profound and meaningful milestone in her artistic journey. According to Aina, whose full name is Nurul Aina Abdul Ghani, the experience of working with veteran composer Datuk Mokhzani Ismail and lyricist Rafiza Rahman added tremendous value to her growth as a singer. 'I only lent my voice but I feel truly honoured to perform this powerful song. It's in English and there were challenges in pronunciation and the detailed musical notation,' she told Bernama. Recorded at the RTM studio under the guidance of a vocal director and the lyricist herself, the 31-year-old artiste admitted that the technical approach required a high level of discipline, especially in adhering strictly to the notation. 'I usually sing according to how I feel, but this time I had to follow the notation note by note. It was challenging but it taught me to be more meticulous and to respect the composer's work,' she said. Aina said the process of interpreting and delivering the song gave her a deeper appreciation for the theme of ASEAN unity. The 'Puas Sudah' singer said through the storytelling-style lyrics, she came to understand the noble values and unique cultural identities of ASEAN member states. 'This song opened my eyes to the beauty and richness of cultures beyond Malaysia. It reminded me that music has the power to unite us, regardless of borders,' she said. Aina, who won the Best Performance award at the 39th Anugerah Juara Lagu, said the experience of recording the song shifted her perspective on the role of music in conveying powerful messages and fostering unity. She described music as a universal medium capable of transcending cultural and linguistic boundaries, making it an effective tool for regional solidarity. 'We shouldn't underestimate the power of music to bring people together. This song proves that music can cross borders and deliver a powerful message, not just to Malaysians but to listeners across ASEAN,' she added.

Azmi Hassan's ‘Diplomasia' Makes Current Affairs More Accessible To Youth
KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) -- Efforts to foster greater interest among youth in diplomacy and foreign policy have been given a fresh impetus with the publication of 'Diplomasia', the debut book by Malaysian geostrategist Prof Dr Azmi Hassan. Written in an accessible style and complemented by illustrations, the book is specifically crafted to engage younger readers, who often perceive geopolitics as overly technical and uninteresting. Speaking after the book's launch at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (KLIBF) here today, Azmi said the approach was chosen to make it easier for young people to understand current affairs. 'I wrote this book in a simple language. Issues such as tensions in the South China Sea or the ASEAN Summit 2025 are presented in a narrative style with colour illustrations to capture readers' attention. 'This book might also rekindle patriotic and nationalistic spirit among youth, as it includes explanations on historical names of the country such as Malaya and Federation of Malaya, which are becoming increasingly unfamiliar to the younger generation,' he said. With more than a decade of experience in geostrategic analysis, Azmi is a well-known figure across various media platforms, frequently offering academic perspectives on both local and international geopolitical matters. According to the book's publisher, PTS Publishing House, Diplomasia is a compilation of current issues that explores Malaysia's soft power on the world stage, including behind-the-scenes insights into the current political landscape. 'The book aims to open readers' eyes to Malaysia's wisdom in negotiation and its principled courage, even when dealing with competing global powers,' it said in a statement. Among the topics covered in Diplomasia are the Sabah claim, tensions in the South China Sea, Malaysia-Singapore relations, and Malaysia's position in the MH17 tragedy.

SEPANG, May 28 (Bernama) -- Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states' leaders and their delegations departed for home today following the conclusion of the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. Li and his delegation boarded a special flight at 9.15 am from the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). They were sent off by Transport Minister Anthony Loke. At around 10 am, the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, also left for home aboard a special aircraft. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali was present to bid him farewell. Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs of Oman, Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, departed for home at 2.33 pm, sent off by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The 46th ASEAN Summit was held on Monday under Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability', and it was followed by the 2nd ASEAN-GCC Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.

ASEAN Main Logistics Secretariat sets sights on raising the bar for October's summit
KUALA LUMPUR: The Main Logistics Secretariat for ASEAN 2025 is determined to raise the bar for the upcoming 47th ASEAN Summit, scheduled for October this year, following the successful execution of the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which concluded today. Head of the Secretariat Raja Saifful Ridzuwan Raja Kamaruddin said the team would use a comprehensive post-event evaluation of the recently concluded summit and related meetings, held from May 22 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, as a blueprint to refine future preparations. 'Honestly, I am very satisfied because everything we planned over the past five months has fully materialised. 'But the real challenge lies ahead in October. We've already tested our capabilities and coordination with various agencies. Now, our focus is on identifying our weaknesses and improving them,' he said when featured on Bernama TV's special programme on ASEAN Summit 2025 tonight. One of the key hurdles, Raja Saifful noted, was presenting Malaysia's identity as a multiracial, peaceful, and tolerant nation, grounded in the MADANI principles - a national development philosophy championed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim - to the broader ASEAN community. 'We wanted to carry the Prime Minister's aspirations onto the ASEAN stage, including through the (ASEAN 2025) logo. That's why we featured blue, red, and yellow - the colours that not only represent ASEAN, but also Malaysia,' he explained. Raja Saifful also underscored ASEAN's central role in Malaysia's foreign policy, particularly in terms of contributing to regional economic growth and stability through a wide range of collaborative initiatives. The ASEAN Summit, which drew leaders and high-level delegations from ASEAN and partner countries, was held under Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'. This year marks Malaysia's fifth term as ASEAN Chair, following previous chairmanships in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
