What Barcelona Stand to Gain from Ansu Fati's Loan to Monaco?
Rabat – Ansu Fati will join AS Monaco on loan from Barcelona for the 2025–26 season, with the French club holding a €11 million option to make the deal permanent. Before completing the move, the 22-year-old extended his contract with Barcelona until 2028—ensuring the Catalan side retains long-term control over the player's future. The loan includes a 50-50 salary split, with each club set to cover €4.7 million of his wages. The deal also helps Barça free up squad space as they push to finalise a move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. Fati endured a difficult season, making just 11 appearances and playing 297 minutes without registering a goal or assist. He appears to be surplus to requirements under new manager Hansi Flick, with attacking options such as Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha ahead in the pecking order. Barcelona hope regular minutes in Ligue 1 will help Fati rediscover his form and fitness after a string of injuries disrupted his progress. Tags: AS MonacoFC Barcelona

Barcelona stars Gavi, Balde & more send messages to departing teammate
Several members of the first-team ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona have taken to social media this week, to send messages of well wishes to now-former teammate Ansu Fati. This, of course, comes after the 22-year-old finally sealed his long-awaited latest departure from the Camp Nou. Advertisement Following another hugely underwhelming campaign all told in 2024/25, wide-man Ansu had for some time now been expected to take his talents elsewhere for the season ahead. In turn, it came as little surprise when, on Tuesday, confirmation of as much was forthcoming online. The Spaniard has made the move to Ligue 1, to line out for AS Monaco on loan for the 2025/26 term. And as alluded to above, a number of leading members of Hansi Flick's squad have since taken to social media, to respond to their teammate's exit. Alejandro Balde, for one, posted to his official Instagram account, wishing Ansu 'good luck' at the Stade Louis II: Ronald Araújo then followed suit with a message of his own, writing: Advertisement 'Let's go all out, man, you're the best.' And adding his name to Ansu's list of well wishers a short time later was close friend Gavi, who wrote on Instagram: 'Love you, brother' Conor Laird – GSFN

Barcelona confirm exit of Ansu Fati for a second time
Barcelona and one-time protege Ansu Fati have parted ways for a second time, after another frustrating season for the 22-year-old. Fati was given little in the way of game time by Hansi Flick this season, and will seek a fresh start in Ligue 1. As announced by FC Barcelona, Fati has joined AS Monaco on a loan deal until the end of the season. While no details were revealed by the club, it is thought the option to buy is in the region of €11m, while Barcelona will also retain a buyback option on the forward were that deal to be completed. Both club and player appear to have come to terms with the fact that an exit and game time are necessary for Fati, but the Blaugrana were keen to retain a degree of control over his future. Monaco will pay around 50% of his wages. Fati has also extended his deal until 2028, reducing the impact on Barcelona's salary limit of his deal, and it will reportedly save them around €8m this season. (Image via AP Photo/Manu Fernandez) Two seasons in purgatory Although Fati has missed around six months of action over the last two seasons in total, for the majority of his campaigns at Brighton and Hove Albion and Barcelona, Fati has now been fit. However with fierce competition for places, Fati was in need of a run of games to get back match sharpness to compete or his spot. However that lack of sharpness obviously hindered his ability to win a spot. After four seasons without consistent football, Fati will be desperate to get it at AS Monaco. Fati's performances for Hansi Flick Fati should flashes of his old self getting into positions under Flick, but struggled to execute with the same verve that made him a breakout star. As per Sport, Fati leaves Barcelona rather frustrated with the German coach, feeling he was not given a fair chance to show his value. Flick questioned Fati's commitment in training on a number of occasions in press conferences, and he only received 289 minutes of action across the season.

Monaco signs Ansu Fati on season-long loan from Barcelona
Monaco signed Ansu Fati on a season-long loan from Barcelona on Tuesday, offering the former teen prodigy another chance to resurrect his career. Monaco said the loan deal for the 22-year-old forward includes an option to buy at the end of the season. Fati burst onto the scene with Barcelona in 2019-20 season. At the age of 16 years and 304 days in August 2019, he became the club's youngest scorer in the Spanish league. Nearly four months later, at the age of 17 years and 40 days, he became the youngest goalscorer in Champions League history. Fati would set other records — he previously held the record as Spain's youngest ever scorer — with his reputation growing as a quick and tricky right winger with an eye for goal. He was predicted to become a world superstar in much the same way as 17-year-old Lamine Yamal is now with Barcelona and Spain. 𝑨𝒏𝒔𝒖 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒊 3⃣1⃣ — AS Monaco EN 🇲🇨 (@AS_Monaco_EN) July 1, 2025 Like Yamal, he also had great versatility, offering him the possibility to operate as a second striker or by dropping deep in the 'false nine' role. But the Guinea-Bissau born forward then experienced a series of injuries which impacted his confidence and form. He played only a handful of games for Barcelona in the past two seasons and spent part of the 2023-24 season on loan to Premier League club Brighton, scoring four goals in 27 games. Fati netted 29 goals in 123 games overall for Barcelona and scored twice for Spain in 10 matches. He appeared fleetingly at the 2022 World Cup and has not played for the national team since 2023. Fati's arrival follows the signing of former France midifleder Paul Pogba on a two-year deal and strengthens coach Adi Hütter's attack. Pogba and Fati should add more versatility and extra firepower to an attack containing the prolific Mika Biereth and skilful US forward Folarin Balogun.
