‘Barbarism and brutality': Burnt body found in Mahikeng field sparks vigilante killing fears
Police discovered the burnt body on Wednesday afternoon and believe it was an act of vigilantism. North West police have launched an investigation into the death of an unidentified female after they discovered her burnt body in an open field near Mmabatho in Mahikeng on Wednesday. The body, found along Vryhof Road at around 4.30pm, had pieces of burnt tyres around the neck and waist. Police believe she was killed in what looks like an act of vigilantism. A call for tip-offs and more info 'Investigation into the matter continues and the police request anyone with information that can assist in resolving this mystery to contact the investigating officers, Captain Ompolokile Letebele, on 082 416 3749 or Sergeant Pitso Kgetsana, on 079 897 1858,' police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said in a statement. 'The South African Police Service Crime Stop can be called on 08600 10111. Anonymous tip-offs can be communicated via the MySAPS app. Information received will be treated with strictest confidentiality.' 'Barbarism and brutality' The North West acting provincial commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, warned that police will not tolerate acts of vigilantism as they could make way for anarchy and lawlessness to replace law, order and peaceful co-existence amongst the community. 'Extra judicial killings, regardless of the complaints or allegations of wrongful conduct, threaten the authority of the state and the credibility of the entire criminal justice system to maintain public order and to enforce the law,' Asenang said. ALSO READ: Soweto men sentenced for brutal vigilante killing at ATM 'Barbarism and brutality should never be excused, countenanced and be justified under any circumstances, and the police must act swiftly and decisively to restore public trust, confidence and respect for the rule of law by all,' he concluded. Three bodies found in the Western Cape The discovery comes just a few hours after Western Cape police found the bodies of three men, aged between 26 and 35, in another apparent vigilante-style attack in the Samora Machel informal settlement. Police discovered the bodies in different locations in close proximity to each other at around 8am on Wednesday. 'Preliminary information indicates that the victims were allegedly accused by community members of being armed robbers and were subsequently targeted and killed in what appears to be a vigilante-style attack,' said police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut. 'Although post-mortem examinations will confirm the exact cause of death, it is suspected that the victims were fatally assaulted.' Tshwane speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana survives motion of no confidence
Tshwane speaker Mncedi Ndzwanana survived a motion of no confidence on Thursday. The motion was brought by the DA, who accused the African Transformation Movement (ATM) councillor of being partisan and of ruling based on his emotions. DA Tshwane caucus leader Cilliers Brink said his 'discriminatory behaviour' had reached a point where 'parties outside of the governing coalition do not have a fair say or hearing, for that matter, in council meetings'. Ndzwanana survived the vote with 114 against the motion, 82 for the motion, and 1 abstaining from the vote.

Photo by Gallo Images/Beeld/Deaan Vivier Tshwane Speaker of Council Mncedi Ndzwanana has survived a motion of no confidence. The DA brought forward the motion against the African Transformation Movement (ATM) councillor, claiming he lacked impartiality. The party lacked the numbers to pass the motion itself, but hoped to convince others in the Council. Despite its Speaker of Council being voted out in Johannesburg just hours earlier, thanks in part to the ANC, ActionSA voted with the ANC to dismiss the motion. ActionSA Gauteng provincial chairperson Funzi Ngobeni earlier said the DA's motion was a 'desperate' attempt to destabilise the city. 'This motion is not about principle; it is about fear. Fear of a coalition that is delivering. Fear of exposure. Fear of becoming irrelevant to a public that is starting to see what good governance can look like,' Ngobeni said. This is a developing story

When Hadi Awang's son-in-law has a crystal ball foretelling first Chinese PM emerging in 2058
AS twice former primer Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad dropped by the National Health Institute (IJN) yesterday (June 25) to visit his foe-turned-friend Tan Sri Hadi Awang, one would have expected the latter to comment on the alleged racial incitement unleased by his son-in-law Zaharuddin Muhammad. Riding on the recent appointment of Datuk Johnny Lim Engh Seng as the first Chinese military officer to climb to the rank of Lieutenant-General in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), the Singai Buloh PAS chief has made headlines with his prophecy that Malaysia can now expect 'its first Chinese Prime Minister – the 50th – by 2058'! In all frankness Zaharuddin would probably not have earned the wrath of DAP national adviser Lim Guan Eng had he not attached on his Facebook post image of the Melaka-born officer who was recently conferred the prestigious three-star rank in the country's military. At best, the retaliation could be milder if he were to stick to his insinuation that 'both parents of the (imaginary) Kg Sungai Baru-born PM were granted Malaysian citizenship via the Malaysia My Second Home scheme 23 years earlier'. Interestingly, Zaharuddin has uploaded back his controversial post which he had deleted earlier by justifying that his action was not one of cowardice but because 'it was swamped by cybertroopers whose only intention is to destroy truth'. Sadly, no PAS backing He further defended his action that while he had 'no explicit or implicit' intention to belittle Johnny Lim's military promotion, this should not be made a precursor to the appointment of a non-Muslim/non-Bumiputera PM appointment in the future. On this note, Zaharuddin has contemplated taking legal action against DAP's deputy secretary-general Steven Sim Chee Keong on grounds of prejudice by having accused him of criticising Johnny Lim's appointment by virtue of him (Johnny Lim) being a Chinese. Also under his legal radar is social news site World of Buzz which Zaharuddin claimed had spined his original post with the headline 'PAS Politician Warns that Firat Malaysian Chinese Lientenant-General Will Lead to Non-Malay PM in the Future'. Whatever said and done, the joke is that PAS is seemingly distancing itself from defending the son-on-law of the Islamist party's supreme leader but instead chooses 'to celebrate diversity'. 'The appointment of Datuk Johnny Lim as ATM's Lieutenant-General is a historic event that should be celebrated by all citizens, not questioned, let alone belittled simply because of his racial background,' justified party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan. 'The ability, achievement, progress and success of any Malaysian in any field is good news for all, not the other way around. Congratulation from PAS to Lieutenant-General Datuk Johnny Lim.' With such tone, one wonders if Zaharuddin would be dealt a similar blow that befell Perak state assembly opposition leader and former Perak commissioner Razman Zakaria who did not receive any party backing following a slew of slanders on political opponents. – June 26, 2025
