Amitabh Bachchan praises son Abhishek: Never give up

Agency: PTI New Delhi, Jul 20 (PTI) Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan penned a heartfelt note admiring his son, Abhishek Bachchan, who has recently completed 25 years in the acting industry. Amitabh shared a post on his blog on Saturday. 'The essence of life is NEVER GIVE UP .. fight till the very end .. you may win you may lose .. BUT AT LEAST YOU FOUGHT. The 'pluckiest' .. (the trait of showing courage and determination) loser has more respect than the 'so called winner ' .. for the pluckiest loser always shall be remembered by – 'he fought and almost WON'. That has a greater sense of success than the more monetary guideline of commercial success .. 25 years !! that is no mean feat .. comparisons with others is a weakness .. the results speak more than any other 'ness'," the post began. 'You Abhishek have ever and ALWAYS compared yourself with yourself .. not many can do that .. And each day I learn more and more and more .. They tell me you have done enough sit back and relax ..NO .. sitting back is a defeat of life – you are giving up .. and one should NEVER GIVE UP," he added. Abhishek made his debut in 2000, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan in 'Refugee". Directed by J P Dutta, the film featured Abhishek in the role of a nameless Indian Muslim, who helps illegal refugees cross the border between India and Pakistan in the Great Rann of Kutch. His latest work is 'Housefull 5", co-starring with Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri and Sonam Bajwa among others. Released on June 6, the film is the fifth installment of the 'Housefull" franchise, which began in 2010. Agency: PTI Last Updated: Mumbai, Jul 19 (PTI) 'Saiyaara", starring newcomer Ahaan Panday, has collected Rs 21.25 crore at the domestic box office on day one of it's theatrical release, the makers announced on Saturday. The romantic drama, helmed by Mohit Suri and produced by YRF has garnered positive reviews from critics and audiences. It also stars Aneet Padda, who has acted in the web series 'Big Girls Don't Cry" and the Kajol-starrer film 'Salaam Venky". The film released in theatres on Friday. 'YRF & Mohit Suri's Saiyaara has a historic opening for a debutant film with 21.25 crore in India on Day 1," the production banner said in a statement. The makers said 'Saiyaara", which was released in 8,000 screens, is the biggest opening day release ever for a debutant-led film, career-best opening for director Suri, and the highest opening day for a love story. ATR sniffer dog Bairava hit by TNSTC bus near office in Pollachi, dies

COIMBATORE: Bairava, a sniffer dog attached to the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR), died in a road accident on Meenkarai Road in Pollachi on Saturday morning. At around 7.10 am, the four-year-old dog was on a regular practice session (walking exercise) with his trainer, within the Deputy Director of ATR office, when a group of stray dogs gathered outside the office. Bairava was chasing the stray dogs when a TNSTC bus passing the Pollachi-Meenkarai road hit him. The dog died on the spot. Bairava was instrumental in tracing the body of a four-year-old Jharkhand-native girl who was killed by a leopard and left behind between tea bushes after 17 hours of searching plantations in Pachamalai near Valparai. The dog also helped in tracing the accused in a tusk poaching case.

Foresters elated as more tigers roar at Amrabad

HYDERABAD: The Amrabad Tiger Reserve (ATR) has recorded a rise in its tiger population from 33 to 36 in the 2024–25 Phase IV Monitoring exercise. Though modest, the increase is underpinned by deeper indicators: more adult tigers, more breeding females and signs of long-term stability. The Forest department, which conducted the monitoring between December 2024 and May 2025, used 1,594 camera traps across 797 grid points following National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) protocols. Dividing the reserve into four spatial blocks, officials ensured systematic data collection through both direct sightings and indirect signs such as pugmarks and scats. Amrabad Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rohit Gopidi told TNIE that the numbers reflect five years of uninterrupted protection and zero poaching. 'You don't need to do much if you simply protect tigers from being killed. Conservation is about patience. What we're seeing now is the result of consistent effort,' he added. Adult tiger numbers rose from 26 to 34, and breeding females from 15 to 20. While the number of recorded cubs dropped from seven to two, Gopidi said this was part of the natural reproductive cycle. 'Most breeding females had cubs last year. Tigers don't breed again until the cubs mature, usually after two years. What matters is we've hit a key threshold of 20 breeding females,' he said. Actual numbers could be higher: DFO Just days after the monitoring period ended, officials spotted another tigress with three cubs, raising hopes for a strong birth cycle ahead. Gopidi expects 10–11 tigresses to breed this year. Each camera trap, placed roughly every 2 square kilometres, ran for 30 days before being rotated, allowing for photo-identification of individual tigers. 'This is not an estimate, it's a confirmed minimum count. Actual numbers could be higher,' Gopidi noted. Much of the success, the DFO said, comes from the ground. ATR currently has two anti-poaching camps with five squads each, aided by 25 full-time trackers stationed deep in the forest. 'Trained trackers, routine patrolling and local engagement have helped ensure zero poaching in recent years,' he added.

AI cameras, drones to track leopards in Valparai, Manombolly

COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Forest Department is taking efforts to minimise leopard attacks in the Valparai region. Two children have been killed here in the last one-and-a-half years, the latest victim being a four-year-old girl in an estate at Pachamalai last month. Officials of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) are working out a plan to overcome the current difficulties in identifying the big cat. Currently, the people are well aware of the elephant movement through early warning systems like SMS as well as Whatsapp messages and the use of high-mast lights. As per the plan, Artificial Intelligence (AI) cameras will be set up at vulnerable places on a trial basis. After the camera detects the movement of a big cat, an alert message will be sent to the range officer and the forest beat officer concerned. Subsequently, the team will be deployed in the area to trace the animal using a thermal drone. Human deaths due to wild elephant attacks have ben curbed over the last decade in the Valparai region by adopting these measures. "The plan is in the proposal stage, and it will be implemented after consultation with all the stakeholders and getting a nod from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) since the incidents of wild elephants getting killed by trains are averted with the help of AI cameras at the Madukkarai forest range in the Coimbatore forest division," said a senior official of the ATR.
