Karnataka Governor, Health Minister, enthusiasts participate in yoga demonstration in Bengaluru
Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts led by Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot and Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao participated in a mass yoga demonstration to mark the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21. The event, organised by the AYUSH Ministry on the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', was part of a nationwide 'Yoga Sangam' initiative. Organised by the Karnataka AYUSH Department in collaboration with yoga associations, civil society groups, and wellness organisations, the celebration in Bengaluru was one of the largest yoga gatherings in Karnataka. Inaugurating the event, the Governor emphasised the importance of yoga as a unifying force and a path to holistic health. He participated in various yoga asanas along with the Health Minister and other dignitaries, inspiring the public to inculcate a healthy lifestyle. Yoga at NIMHANS The Department of Integrative Medicine at NIMHANS, organised yoga sessions dedicated to promoting mental well-being through yoga. This year's celebration featured a unique initiative titled 'Yoga Samavesha – A Yoga-based Mental Health Initiative for Older Adults', supported by the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Union Ministry of AYUSH. Aimed at bringing attention to the mental health needs of senior citizens and older adults, particularly those residing in old age homes across Bengaluru, this programme witnessed participation by groups of senior citizens from across Bengaluru. The session was specially designed and tailored to support their mental health, emotional balance, and physical vitality, doctors said. Separate mass yoga sessions were organised for staff and students at Gymkhana ground, and for patients at Ashwini Hall in NIMHANS. Elsewhere in the city, Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra led a yoga session with party workers at the office of the BJP.

Akshar Yoga Kendraa aims for 12 Guinness World Records this year
Akshar Yoga Kendraa will celebrate this year's International Yoga Day by attempting 12 Guinness World Records in Yogasanas at the Palace Grounds, with 2,500 participants from 30+ countries. Recognised by India's AYUSH Ministry, the organisation has already achieved nine records. Participants include defence personnel, students, professionals, and specially-abled individuals. Karnataka gears up for International Yoga Day
The 11th International Yoga Day celebrations will be held across Karnataka on June 21, with a major event at Vidhana Soudha, which will be inaugurated by Governor Thaawarchand to Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, the event will witness the participation of 3,000 yoga enthusiasts in accordance with the yoga protocol prescribed by the Central programme will be conducted from 6 am to 8 am. Yoga Sangam: 3,000 to gather at Bengaluru's Vidhana Soudha for International Yoga Day
The 11th International Yoga Day celebrations is set to witness a mass gathering of around 3,000 people at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru this year, according to Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. The state is set to celebrate the day - June 21- with various events, including the standardized yoga routine outlined by the Central government. The mega yoga event at the Vidhana Soudha will be inaugurated by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot. The program will run from 6 am to 8 am, with similar events being held simultaneously at various district and taluk centres. The celebration, titled "Yoga Sangam," will be organized in collaboration with multiple yoga organizations, civil society groups, and other partners. A 45-minute session following the common yoga protocol developed by the AYUSH Ministry will be the key feature of the event. Top state officials including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, state ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and notable yoga gurus from Karnataka are expected to attend the Vidhana Soudha program. On the same day, Yoga Sangam events will be conducted in all 30 district centres, each targeting at least 5,000 participants. Nationally, the Government of India aims to organize Yoga Sangam events at 100,000 locations, with Karnataka contributing around 10,000 of these programs. The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka has submitted a request to the Centre to officially recognize Mysuru as a 'Yoga District', according to The Hindu. COVID-19 in India: Four new deaths reported, active cases near 4,000
India's active COVID-19 cases stand at 3,961 as of 8 AM on Monday (June 2, 2025), according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The cumulative COVID-19 deaths in the country since January this year have increased to 32, with four deaths reported since Sunday (June 1, 2025). According to official data, 203 new cases were added to the active case count since Sunday. Also read | No need to fear COVID-19, thanks to acquired immunity, says Soumya Swaminathan Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Kerala each reported one COVID-19 death since Sunday. Delhi reported 47 more COVID-19 cases, increasing the total active cases in the national capital to 483. In Kerala, active COVID-19 cases rose to 1,435, with 35 new cases reported since Sunday. In Maharashtra, 21 new COVID-19 cases were reported, taking the active case count to 506. In West Bengal, 44 new COVID-19 cases were reported, increasing the State's active cases to 331. On Friday, Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH (Independent Charge), Prataprao Jadhav, assured that the Centre is fully prepared to handle any situation that may arise. 'Both our Central Health Department and the AYUSH Ministry are fully alert and closely monitoring the situation across all States. We have spoken with the respective Health and AYUSH Secretaries, as well as other concerned ministers,' Jadhav had told ANI. He added that the infrastructure developed during the earlier COVID-19 waves has been reviewed and that preparations are underway to deal with any eventuality. 'We've reviewed the infrastructure built during the earlier Covid waves, such as oxygen plants and ICU beds, and have already begun preparations. Our health systems are well-equipped and ready to handle any situation that may arise in response to COVID,' he had said.
