Delhi govt to convert incomplete hospital projects to super speciality centres
Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced that seven ongoing hospital projects in the Capital will be redeveloped as super specialty ICU Centres, each dedicated to treating specific critical illnesses. The move, she said, aims to transform Delhi into a premier medical hub 'where no patient leaves disappointed, and people from across the country and the world come for treatment.' The seven hospital projects—located in Kirari, Sultanpuri, Sarita Vihar, Shalimar Bagh, Raghubir Nagar, Geeta Colony, and Dilshad Garden—were initiated during the Covid-19 pandemic to expand the city's healthcare capacity. However, progress on most remains sluggish. Some are only around 50% complete, while others have made even less headway. Gupta blamed 'poor planning and corruption in past governments' for the city's underdeveloped healthcare infrastructure. 'During the Covid-19 pandemic, the scarcity of hospital beds led to the loss of lives due to delayed treatment. At one point, Delhi had just 0.42 hospital beds per 1,000 residents,' she said. 'Across 38 government hospitals, there were only six MRI machines and 12 CT scan machines—an alarming shortfall for a city of this scale.' She also highlighted longstanding shortages of doctors, medicines, and equipment but said the BJP-led government is now actively working to modernise the system. 'People will soon witness major transformations in Delhi's medical landscape,' she added. The newly inaugurated private hospital, now empanelled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, will enable even the most underprivileged patients to access quality treatment without financial burden. As part of its commitment to strengthening primary and secondary healthcare, the government has also designated 15 Aarogya Mandirs in each assembly constituency.

Health boost for Delhi: 33 Arogya Mandirs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras inaugurated
New Delhi: In a major boost to Delhi's healthcare infrastructure, a total of 33 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (Health and Wellness Centers) and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras were inaugurated in the capital on Tuesday. The multiple healthcare centres that will give a new identity to city's healthcare landscape were inauguated by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, ministers in Delhi government as well as BJP Parliamentarians. CM Rekha Gupta, speaking at the inauguration ceremony, said, "Today, under a special initiative envisioned by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, I had the opportunity to inaugurate an Arogya Mandir (Health and Wellness Center) here. Across Delhi, 33 Arogya Mandirs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are being inaugurated simultaneously today. I would like to proudly inform the residents that our ministers, MPs, and MLAs are inaugurating these centres at multiple locations." The Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, equipped with modern health equipments, will provide a wide array of services and seek to serve as one-stop centre for all types of medical assistance. Each centre will provide in-house testing facilities for 14 types of diagnostics, along with outsourced access to 79 additional tests. Moreover, national-level vaccination programs will now be available at these centres. Apart from medical testing and vaccination, the centres will offer yoga sessions every Monday and Friday, family planning services, and pre-and post-natal care. These centres will operate daily from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will be staffed by a medical officer, a nurse, a multipurpose worker, and a sanitation worker. Earlier, Mohalla Clinics provided mainly doctor consultations, with most diagnostic tests outsourced and crucial services like immunization unavailable. The Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will bring all these essential services under one roof. Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, after inaugurating Arogya Mandir at a government school in Khajuri Khas, in Karawal Nagar constituency, stated, "The Aarogya Mandir is truly a 'Temple of Health', and its name is beautifully chosen. Today, history is being made in Delhi as 33 Aarogya Mandirs are being inaugurated simultaneously across the city. Our target is to open 1,139 Aarogya Mandirs in the next three months. In my Karawal Nagar constituency, five locations have already been identified. Our goal is to open at least two Aarogya Mandirs in every ward over the next three months. Work is already underway, and at least one location in each ward has been identified."

New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Wednesday said over 3.45 lakh health cards have been issued under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana till date. Of these, 1,66,841 cards have been distributed exclusively under the Vay Vandana Yojana (VVY) -- an initiative aimed at ensuring dignified and secure aging for Delhi's senior citizens, an official statement said. As per data, 1,24,215 cards were issued by self-registrations, 11,284 by BIS operators, and 42,176 through Common Service Centres (CSCs), it said. "The prompt issuance of over 3.45 lakh cards is a testament to the Delhi government's efficient implementation and the people's trust in our healthcare initiatives. We are committed to upholding the dignity and well-being of every senior citizen in the capital," Singh said. As part of the government's expanded healthcare infrastructure, 85 hospitals have been empanelled under the schemes -- 60 private and 25 government-run facilities, allowing beneficiaries to access quality care across both sectors. These cards offer up to Rs 10 lakh in cashless hospitalisation benefits , not just within Delhi but also across empanelled hospitals nationwide. The construction of 1,139 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs across Delhi is in full swing. The plan is to equip each of Delhi's 70 assembly constituencies with Aarogya Mandirs, bringing healthcare closer to the people. "This very month, over 30 new Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs will be dedicated to the people of Delhi," he added. Every Delhi resident above 70 years, possessing an Aadhaar card, is eligible for registration under Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana.
