Former Vikings starter from 2024 makes NFL Top 100 Players of 2025 list

The NFL has started rolling out its Top 100 Players for the 2025 Season. They are doing it exclusively on social media this year, compared to specials on NFL Network, compared to years past, in hopes of garnering more engagement, one can assume. That leads us to the latest player to make the list, the first being Aaron Jones at the 98 spot, followed by Andrew Van Ginkel at the 88 spot. They are now joined by one of their 2024 teammates who left in free agency, Sam Darnold, who earns the 72 spot in the rankings done by his fellow NFL players. Darnold stepped up when the Vikings needed him most in 2024 when their top draft pick, quarterback J.J. McCarthy, went down with a knee injury in the preseason. While many people expected the season to be doomed, Darnold led the Vikings to a 14-3 record and was one game away from winning the NFC North. The former USC Trojan is now back out west with the Seattle Seahawks, whom the Vikings will play in 13. Green Bay Packers defender lands at No. 80 on NFL's annual list of top 100 players

The NFL has begun unfurling its top 100 players in the league, and a Green Bay Packers player checks in at No. 80. That's pass rusher Rashan Gary, the first — but likely not the last — Packer to make the annual ranking. Advertisement The slow-and-steady rollout began in late June with the No. 91-100 picks and will continue through the exhibition portion of the season; the top 10 players are announced Sept. 1. The list is compiled based on votes of NFL players. Gary played in 17 games last year and finished with nine tackles for loss, 7½ sacks, a forced fumble and 47 tackles overall. It was arguably a down year, but it was the first time he started every game and he made the Pro Bowl for the first time. Gary will turn 28 years old in December and will be the midst of his seventh season with Green Bay and second under defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Advertisement He's the first Packers player on the top 100, though University of Wisconsin alumnus Andrew Van Ginkel, who was named second-team All-Pro last season in a breakout season with the Vikings, made the list at No. 88. His teammate, former Packers running back Aaron Jones, made the list at No. 98 after rushing for 1,138 yards last year, the highest mark in his career. Jones last made the list in 2023 at No. 64. He placed as high as No. 30 in 2021. Gary ranked No. 50 on the 2024 list, his first time in the top-100 rankings. The only other Packers player on the 2024 list included Jordan Love (No. 34), though it's fair to assume Xavier McKinney will also make an appearance in 2025, at the very least. Stroud (7) during the second quarter of their game Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. That leads us to the latest player to make the list, the first was Aaron Jones at the 98, but now he is joined by Andrew Van Ginkel at the 88 spot. The first season with the Vikings was a memorable one for the former Miami Dolphin. After signing with the team in the offseason, he wasted no time in making an impact with four tackles, one sack, one interception, and one defensive touchdown. From there, the rest of the year saw him be a contender for Defensive Player of the Year and he is carrying that momentum into 2025. With Andrew Van Ginkel making the list at 88, one has to think we will be seeing other Vikings defensive players such as Jonathan Greenard, Byron Murphy Jr., and perhaps even Harrison Smith, later on in the rankings.

Vikings' Justin Jefferson Reacts to Major Aaron Jones Announcement

Vikings' Justin Jefferson Reacts to Major Aaron Jones Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aaron Jones turned back the clock in his first season with the Minnesota Vikings. The star running back showed that he still has a lot left in him by posting career-high stats at 30 years of age. Advertisement Coming off an injury-plagued season, Jones recorded his fourth 1000-rushing-yard season. His career-high 1,138 rushing yards were among the top 10 in the league. The former fifth-round pick also breached the 50-receptions mark for the third time in his career. He caught 50 passes for 408 receiving yards, scoring two receiving touchdowns. Voted in by his fellow players, the veteran running back earned his fourth career appearance on the prestigious list. He was ranked No. 33 in 2020, No. 30 in 2021, and No. 64 in 2023 while with the Packers. Advertisement Four-time Pro Bowler Justin Jefferson was featured in the NFL's video celebrating Jones' achievement. The Vikings WR shared his feelings about playing alongside the former Pro Bowler. "Seeing him on the opposite, you know, side of the ball in Green Bay and seeing how athletic he is and seeing how difficult he is to go down. It definitely feels a lot better seeing him in purple and gold than the green and gold," Jefferson said. The star wide receiver also revealed the one trait that makes Jones a delight to have on the team. "He's not the biggest. He's not the strongest. He's not the fastest, but he can run that ball," he said. Advertisement The Green Bay Packers drafted Jones at No. 182 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. He made 85 starts for the Packers, charting 5,940 rushing yards for 45 touchdowns and posting 2,076 receiving yards for 272 receptions and 18 touchdowns in seven years. The Vikings signed Jones in March 2024 after the Packers released him after seven seasons. After an incredible season that saw him earn a spot in the NFL Top 100 rankings, Jones inked a two-year deal worth $20 million with the franchise. Running backs rarely show this level of improvement at this stage of their career. But Jones has done it against all odds. He would aim to put up even better numbers as J.J. McCarthy is set to take the QB mantle after missing his entire rookie season due to an injury.
