Former Georgia QB Aaron Murray thinks Carson Beck needs to grow up, mature
Former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray does not like how Miami Hurricanes and former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has handled everything since he suffered a season-ending elbow injury in Georgia's SEC championship win over Texas. Since Beck's injury, he was reportedly not around the team much in preparation for the Sugar Bowl and then entered the 2025 NFL draft. Beck later changed his mind, which was probably the right decision, and elected to return for another year of college football. However, he entered the transfer portal and eventually signed with the Miami Hurricanes. Advertisement Beck has often been in the headlines this offseason for non-football reasons. He had luxury cars stolen and some drama with his ex-girlfriend Hanna Cavinder. These are not necessarily detrimental things, but they are distractions at the very least and raise questions if Beck is completely focused on football. "I don't like all the distractions. I don't like what I've heard from the locker room. That at times he was not one of the guys in the locker room. That (Beck) was more concerned with making TikToks, being with his celebrity girlfriend." Georgia's projected starting quarterback in 2025, Gunner Stockton, is very well respected by his teammates and is quite humble. Advertisement Beck, who is still returning to 100% from his elbow injury, has less than three months to prepare for the 2025 college football season. Beck will have to ready play an elite team in Week 1 because Miami opens the season with Notre Dame. "Obviously the drama in the offseason with said girlfriend and everything else is like... if I'm an NFL GM or coach or offensive coordinator, I need my quarterback locked in," added Murray. Quarterbacks are the most important position in football and are expected to be leaders. It will be interesting to see how NFL teams evaluate Beck in the 2026 NFL draft. "But I think that there's still more growing up that Carson (Beck) needs to go through and maturing to know what it means to be a professional. And being a professional quarterback doesn't mean that you drive, you know, a G-Wagon and a Lamborghini and have a celebrity girlfriend," said Murray. How Missouri football trolled Georgia without winning a game against UGA in a decade The Missouri Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs won't be playing each other during the 2025 college football season unless the two teams meet in the SEC championship or College Football Playoff. That did not stop Missouri from trolling Georgia in a recent social media post. In a series of pictures, Missouri tabbed "the photo we recently hesitate to post" versus "the photo we posted in 2013 with absolutely zero hesitation." The Tigers included one picture of Missouri's 41-26 defeat of Georgia. Missouri's 2013 win over Georgia helped the Tigers climb the SEC East standings and advance to the SEC championship where Missouri lost to Auburn. Missouri's upset of No. 7 Georgia and star quarterback Aaron Murray derailed Georgia's season. The Missouri game was Georgia's second loss of the year and essentially crushed UGA's national championship hopes. Of course, the next week Georgia lost at Vanderbilt, which cemented the Dawgs' disappointing season after losing in the 2012 SEC championship and coming five yards short of a national championship appearance the year before. Georgia fans can cheer up though. The Bulldogs have won 10 straight games against Missouri. In 2016, Georgia hired coach Kirby Smart and began to dominate the SEC East. The Bulldogs won national titles in 2021 and 2022 to erase a lot of the heartbreak for Georgia's fan base. Missouri's post trolling Georgia Note: the image is all the way to the right on the post. Missouri has not beaten Georgia since 2013. Georgia has dominated the series, but Missouri has made strides in recent seasons. Georgia is 11-1 since Missouri joined the SEC, but the teams no longer face each other annually as SEC East rivals in the expanded 16-team SEC.

Uncertainty surrounds new Miami quarterback Carson Beck following a chaotic offseason. The former four-star helped lead the Georgia Bulldogs to the SEC Championship Game last season before suffering a season-ending elbow injury on the last play of the second quarter against Texas. Advertisement Beck, who had posted a 24-3 record as a two-year starter at UGA, initially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. However, he backed off that decision and entered the transfer portal before signing with the Hurricanes. The effort by head coach Mario Cristobal and the Miami staff to come to a lofty, $4 million Name, Image and Likeness agreement with Beck made a lot of sense after the NFL departure of Cam Ward. Beck led the SEC and finished third nationally in passing as a first-year starter in 2023. And that's the production that the Hurricanes are hoping for in 2025, as Beck's campaign last season left much to be desired. Beck doubled his interception total (12) from the previous year and his completion rate dropped nearly eight percent. Georgia lost two regular season games–Alabama, Ole Miss–after previously going unscathed in that aspect since 2020. "And, speaking of the word mature, I think that's the biggest red flag for me right now is where is he in the maturity factor. Because you have heard in the locker room at Georgia there was some disconnect with Carson and his teammates." Much has been made about Beck's relationship with Miami basketball star and social media influencer Hanna Cavinder. It was allegedly viewed as a distraction within the Georgia program, and Murray is concerned that similar issues will leak into Beck's career at Miami. Advertisement "But there are some possible character flaws that you heard from the locker room," Murray said. "Then you're seeing in the offseason with all the nonsense on TikTok and then the girlfriend stuff, and it's too much mess. It's too much for a guy that's going to be 23, 24-years-old. I need you focusing on football." Miami serves as a fresh start for Beck, who is expected to be healthy for fall camp. This could very well be the season that solidifies him as a first-round NFL pick next spring. And Murray is calling for Beck to keep things focused on the task at hand. "You're on a brand new team," he said. "You're coming off an elbow injury. I don't need you in the media other than, 'Hey man, I'm throwing five yards today. I'm throwing 10 yards today. I'm throwing 20 yards today. I'm progressing. I'm learning the playbook. I'm here to lead Miami, the Miami Hurricanes to an ACC championship next year.' Not TikTok news, girlfriend news." Advertisement Murray's brutally honest take didn't come without a silver lining for Miami faithful. He is still very high on Beck's talent as a passer, something that built him into a star at Georgia. "But from a pure talent standpoint, there is no doubt Carson Beck is a very gifted passer of the football," Murray said. Beck is expected to make his Miami debut in the season opener at home against Notre Dame on Aug. 31.
