PM Modi chairs 48th PRAGATI meeting, reviews key projects in Mines, Railways, and Water resources
New Delhi [India], June 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired the 48th meeting of PRAGATI, the ICT-enabled, multi-modal platform aimed at fostering Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, by seamlessly integrating efforts of the Central and State governments, at South Block, New Delhi. According to an official statement from the Prime Minister's Office, during the meeting, Prime Minister Modi reviewed certain critical infrastructure projects across the Mines, Railways, and Water Resources sectors. These projects, pivotal to economic growth and public welfare, were reviewed with a focus on timelines, inter-agency coordination, and issue resolution. The Prime Minister underscored that delays in project execution come at the dual cost of escalating financial outlays and denying citizens timely access to essential services and infrastructure. He urged officials, both at the Central and State levels, to adopt a results-driven approach to translate opportunity into improving lives. During a review of Prime Minister-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), the Prime Minister urged all States to accelerate the development of health infrastructure, with a special focus on Aspirational Districts, as well as remote, tribal, and border areas. He emphasized that equitable access to quality healthcare must be ensured for the poor, marginalized, and underserved populations, and called for urgent and sustained efforts to bridge existing gaps in critical health services across these regions. The Prime Minister emphasised that PM-ABHIM provides a golden opportunity to States to strengthen their primary, tertiary and specialised health infrastructure at Block, District and State level to provide quality health care and services. Prime Minister Modi reviewed exemplary practices fostering Aatmanirbharta in the defence sector, undertaken by various Ministries, Departments, and States/UTs. He lauded these initiatives for their strategic significance and their potential to spur innovation across the defence ecosystem. Underscoring their broader relevance, the Prime Minister cited the success of Operation Sindoor, executed with indigenous capabilities, as a powerful testament to India's advancing self-reliance in defence sector. Prime Minister also highlighted how the States can avail the opportunity to strengthen the ecosystem and contribute to Aatmanirbharta in defence sector. (ANI)

Panel formed to review Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020: Defence ministry
A committee led by the Director General (Acquisition) has been established to conduct detailed deliberations with stakeholders for a full review of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020, the Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday. The objective of the review is to enhance the pace of armed forces modernisation and meet national security requirements more efficiently, while also aligning the acquisition framework with central government policies supporting self-reliance in defence manufacturing. Aligning DAP with Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India The ministry noted that the review aligns with the government's broader goal of achieving Aatmanirbharta and promoting the Make in India initiative. Originally launched in September 2020 by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, DAP 2020 was intended to bolster India's domestic defence manufacturing capabilities and position the country as a global production hub. Following the declaration of 2025 as the 'Year of Reforms,' the defence ministry initiated this 'comprehensive review' to reflect current government priorities. The newly formed committee includes senior defence ministry officials, industry stakeholders, and representatives from academia. Former DG (Acquisition) and retired IAS officer Apurva Chandra has been appointed as Principal Advisor to the committee. The committee has already begun consultations and has invited stakeholder suggestions by 5 July. Objectives of the review The review aims to: Support Aatmanirbharta by promoting indigenous technology and locally designed systems Foster Make in India through manufacturing partnerships, joint ventures, and technology transfers Attract foreign OEMs by aligning procedures with FDI norms Establish India as a hub for global defence manufacturing and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) The revised framework is expected to support defence start-ups, innovators, and private players to integrate local technologies and strengthen India's R&D ecosystem. Feedback sought on key reforms The ministry has sought public input on areas including: Procedural streamlining and ease of doing business Trial and post-contract protocols Fast-track acquisitions Categorisation improvements Adoption of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence Language clarity and procedural transparency in the DAP Background: DAP evolution since 2002 India's defence procurement framework dates back to 2002 and has been revised periodically to boost domestic capacity. In 2019, then Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the formation of the Main Review Committee under Apurva Chandra to draft the current DAP 2020. Following extensive consultation, DAP 2020 came into force on 1 October 2020, incorporating feedback from a broad spectrum of stakeholders.

New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): In light of the declaration of 2025 as the 'Year of Reforms,' the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has commenced a thorough evaluation of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020. This review aims to ensure alignment with current policies and initiatives of the Government of India (GoI). A Committee headed by the Director General (Acquisition) has been constituted to carry out extensive deliberations with all stakeholders, as stated in the release. The Committee includes senior Defence Ministry officers, representatives from the Defence Industry, and Academia. The Ministry has also appointed former IAS officer Apurva Chandra (1980 batch), who previously served as DG (Acquisition), as the Principal Advisor to the Committee. The panel has already begun consultations and has invited suggestions from stakeholders by July 05, 2025, which can be sent to secy-dap2025[at]gov[dot]in. The DAP Review aims to ensure the timely modernisation and operational readiness of the Armed Forces to safeguard national security while aligning acquisition processes with the Government of India's policies. It seeks to foster Aatmanirbharta by promoting self-reliance through indigenously designed and developed systems, enabling the 'Make in India' initiative by encouraging domestic defence manufacturing. This includes facilitating joint ventures, technology transfers, and foreign direct investment to attract global OEMs, positioning India as a hub for defence manufacturing and maintenance, repair, and overhaul. The review emphasises promoting design and development in both public and private sectors, with a special focus on startups, innovators, and the private defence industry to drive indigenous technology infusion. Stakeholder suggestions are invited to propose policy and procedural changes to streamline acquisition processes, including categorisation, ease of doing business, trial conduct, post-contract management, fast-track procedures, and the integration of emerging technologies like AI. Additionally, inputs are sought on improving the language of the DAP to eliminate ambiguities, resolve inconsistencies, enhance procedural clarity, and address any other relevant issues that should be considered during the review. Coast Guard gets new Rs 473-crore, 52-metre-long Fast Patrol Vessel
The Indian Coast Guard's (ICG) fifth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), in a series of eight under construction, was launched in Goa on Monday, a Defence Ministry official said. Built at a cost of Rs 473 crore, the vessel named 'Achal' measures 52 metres in length and 8 metres in breadth, with a displacement of 320 tonnes. Powered by a controllable pitch propeller (CPP)-based propulsion system, the vessel can reach a top speed of 27 knots, said the official. The vessel was ceremoniously launched by Kavita Harbola in the presence of Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard), Additional Director General Anil Kumar Harbola. Designed and constructed under dual-class certification from the American Bureau of Shipping and Indian Register of Shipping, the FPV features over 60 per cent indigenous content, said an official statement. With its primary roles of protection, monitoring, control, and surveillance, 'Achal' is equipped to safeguard offshore assets and island territories, it said. 'The FPV's launch marks another milestone in the long-standing partnership between the Indian Coast Guard and Goa Shipyard Ltd, further reinforcing the collective march towards Aatmanirbharta in defence manufacturing,' the statement said. The project has also provided a significant boost to local industry by generating substantial employment and supporting MSMEs engaged in production activities at various factories and within GSL, it said. Earlier this month, ICG Director General (DG) Paramesh Sivamani inaugurated a new dedicated jetty at Vizhinjam Harbour, Kerala, to enhance mission readiness for coastal surveillance. The new facility is expected to support faster deployment and turnaround of ICG vessels, adding to the mission readiness for coastal search and rescue, anti-smuggling, and fisheries protection. Strategically located just 10 nautical miles from key international shipping lanes and adjacent to the Vizhinjam International Transhipment Deepwater Port, the jetty is expected to play a critical role in securing India's southwestern coastline. DG Paramesh Sivamani called the facility a major step forward in strengthening the coastal security architecture and ensuring faster response capabilities in the region.
